At some point, a new comment appeared under Valerie’s video. 

[Mr. Patel helps you get divorced, then you two immediately get married. is this really a coincidence or was it planned all along? 

This comment had the most likes and replies underneath it. Some people called the commenter toxic for victim blaming, saying Valerie was clearly the victim but now she was being questioned about theating on her marriage. 

Of course, some people actually supported this theory. After all, Valerie and Clayton had been childhood sweethearts. They’d both gotten married to other people, then divorced around the same time, and now they were together. Maybe they’d never really gotten over each other. 

Some comments went even further, wondering if Valerie’s daughter might actually be Clayton’s kid. 

Since that comment got the most replies, Valerie couldn’t help but see it. She nearly jumped out of her skin when she read it. Not because of what it said, but because of who wrote it–Lucas,

He walked out of the administrative building like a zombie, staring at the busy street full of cars and people. Everything felt surreal and overwhelming. 

If there was such a thing as a time machine, Clayton would spend every penny he had to go back and fix this mess. His career had been taking off, the branch office was about to open, but bringing Valerie back to ironhaven had screwed everything up. 

John was under investigation, Lilian kept ending up in the hospital, Alexa had lost her baby, Audrey wanted a divorce, and his career was basically over. 

“Mr. Patel” Lucas appeared in front of him. 

Clayton stopped dead in his tracks. It took him a second to recognize the guy. “Lucas? What are you doing here?” 

Lucas smiled and offered him a cigarette, “Just here to handle some business.” 

Clayton didn’t take it and pushed his hand away, “I don’t care what you’re here for. Stay away from Vally.” 

Lucas put the cigarette back in the pack, his smile instantly turning cold. “I always knew something was off. You said you were her old classmate, that’s why you helped her divorce me. But now that I’m in Ironhaven, I found out the truth. You’re Luna’s dad.” 

Clayton’s face went stone cold. “I’m only Luna’s father on paper.” 

“On paper? You think I’m stupid? No guy lets some random kid use his name unless she’s actually his. And your wife was cool with that?” Lucas laughed 

harshly. 

“Of course she wasn’t. What woman wants her husband playing daddy to another man’s kid? Making her own future children basically illegitimate“. Lucas shook his head. 

Lucas ignored Clayton’s murderous expression and threw an arm around his neck, forcing him to walk with him. “Mr. Patel, you made me div and said I was abusive. So what about your divorce? Did your wife find out about your little secret relationship?” 

Clayton jerked away violently. The movement pulled at his ribs and pain shot through him, making his face twist. “Show some respect. You’re not just insulting me, you’re insulting Vally too. 

“She gave you children and you treated her like garbage just because she had a daughter instead of a son, 

“I treated her like garbage? You keep calling her “Vally like you’re closer to her than I ever was” Lucas cracked his knuckles, his smile getting more

Lucas threw a punch straight into the tree link. The branches shook and a few leaves fluttered down. 

Clayton stood there stunned, taking a moment to process what he’d just heard. “You piece of shit” Clayton lost it and swung at him, but he wa Injured and had no real power behind the punch. It just give Lucas the perfect excuse to claim self defense 

“Class over yet?” Yann called Audrey right on schedule.

“Got other plans?” Audrey glanced at Ivan and smiled. “There’s this kid who wants to work out,” 

Yann went quiet for a second. “Bring him over.” 

“Okay.” Audrey hung up and warned Ivan, “Don’t start crying later” 

Ivan shrugged it off. “Just don’t feel bad for me when it happens.” He figured any guy who spent his days stuck in an office was all talk and no action. Not like kids their age who were full of energy and actually in shape. 

When they headed out, Brooke still wasn’t back yet 

“Did your mom find a job?” Audrey asked curiously 

“Yeah.” Ivan gave her a half–hearted response and didn’t say anything else about it. 

They left the complex and quickly spotted the black Maybach parked on the street 

Ivan automatically went for the back seat, but when he opened the door and saw Yann, he switched to the passenger side instead. 

Audrey laughed softly and slid into the back seat.

‘This guy’s got to be at least ten times richer than Miguel, Ivan thought. He swallowed hard and turned back to face forward, stealing glances rearview mirror at how Audrey and the man interacted. 

“Ms. Henderson isn’t intimidated by his wealth at all. She talks to him like family, completely relaxed, Ivan thought. 

Rush hour traffic crawled along painfully. Some intersections took two or three light changes just to get through. 

Suddenly, someone jaywalked across the street, pissing off a driver who’d just started moving. The guy laid on his horn, honking repeatedly

Two guys were fighting on the sidewalk, The person who’d jaywalked earlier was just going over to watch the drama unfold. 

Audrey practically had to lean across Yarm’s lap to see what was happening outside the window. She stared for a moment, then turned to ask him, “I think the other guy is Valerie’s ex–husband.” 

Yann was totally enjoying having her practically pressed against him. He made a low “mmm” sound and squeezed her hand tighter. “Want to get

Clayton stumbled back a step and grabbed onto a nearby tree to keep from falling. When he looked up, he locked eyes with Audrey watching from the car window 

Clayton had never felt so embarrassed in his life. Street fighting was so beneath him. During their divorce, he’d threatened Audrey that without him, she’d never make it in Ironhaven. Now look at this. Audrey was thriving while he kept hitting rock bottom. 

“Audrey.” Clayton tried to go after her, but Lucas suddenly grabbed his shoulder.
