Cleo almost laughed in anger. “Maxine, I knew you were stubborn, but I didn’t know you were this stubborn! Let me tell you, I just found out that the Jenson Construction Group has been publicly offering shares for a while now.
“In three to five months at most, they’ll be listed on the stock market. Once listed, Gabriel’s dad will be the chairman of the group, and barring any accidents, Gabriel will be the CEO.
“Do you really think the Jenson family will allow you to cause such a huge scandal at this crucial moment?”
Maxine’s eyes flickered, and she murmured, “Going public… that could be an opportunity.”
Cleo was left helpless, urging, “I’m telling you this to make you give up! Not to give you an opportunity!”
Without further ado, Maxine grabbed her bag. “Thanks, Cleo, this info is crucial! I gotta run. Let’s catch up another day!”
Leaving the club, Maxine headed straight to her law firm.
She had already submitted her resignation to Patrick the night she lost the case.
Patrick had read it but never replied, instead contacting her a few times on WhatsApp. The gist was urging her to come back and it wasn’t worth it over “such a small matter.”
Maxine didn’t reply to any of them. Not because she was rude, but because she felt some things were better said in person.
Maxine’s reappearance at the law firm naturally caught everyone’s attention.
Everyone was looking at her, but no one dared to approach her.
Except for Kathleen, who mocked, “Yo? Here comes Maxine?”
She forced a smile, crossed her arms, and looked at Maxine sideways. “Here to pack your stuff?”
Maxine looked coldly at Kathleen and asked, “Kathleen, where’s the evidence from Ivanna’s case? Hand it over.”
Kathleen was caught off guard by Maxine’s question, a hint of unease flashing across her eyes.
She averted her gaze and humphed. “That case has been closed for days. I’ve destroyed the evidence!”
Maxine widened her eyes, holding back the urge to slap Kathleen and questioning coldly, “Who told you to destroy it? Are you even a lawyer? The firm always archives case evidence! Is this your first day on the job?”

Maxine couldn’t hold back anymore and raised her hand to step forward.
“Hey, Maxine, Ms. Hudson!” At that crucial moment, Patrick came panting out of his office and stopped Maxine. “Maxine, come with me. I need to talk to you!”
