Chapter 151

Chapter 151

Kathleen’s hand trembled, and her phone nearly slipped from her grip

The reporter on the other end, sensing her silence, pressed on, Miss Lane, are you there? Regarding Gabriel’s casethere are rumors online that you destroyed evidence belonging to the victim and took money from Gabriel to support a false lawsuit. Would you care to comment? Is any of that true?”

Kathleen didn’t even dare to breathe, let alone respond. She ended the call in a panic and immediately tried to dial Sebastian

But before she could, Rayden’s call came through first. Are you out of your damn mind?he exploded. You left a trail of evidence while destroying the originals! I’ve been suspendedthanks to you! Just wait. This isn’t over between us!”

ར

Kathleen knew exactly what kind of person Rayden washe’d throw her under the bus in a heartbeat and walk away squeaky clean

I don’t know what’s going on. Wait, let me find out-she stammered, trying to sound calm

But Rayden wasn’t having it. I don’t know who you’ve been talking to, but you’ve clearly got the Jenson family backing you up. You act recklessly without thinking of the fallout. You’ve ruined me! And if those people come for me, don’t think you’ll be spared.”

With that, he hung up, not giving her a chance to explain

Kathleen was officially in panic mode. Someone had deliberately set her up. But Maxine had already been in a car accidentshe was probably dead by now. That woman by her side couldn’t possibly have pulled all this off

Could it beSebastian? The thought struck her like lightning. She shivered as she recalled the murderous expression on his face earlier, the way he’d looked like he wanted to tear her apart with his bare hands

She’s just some lowlife. How dare she take up space in his heart?Kathleen thought

MaxineMaxine…” Kathleen kept repeating the name under her breath, like a broken record, her eyes wild with something disturbingly close to

madness

She was still standing here, alive and breathing, and one dayshe would win Sebastian back and become his wife, fair and square. That meant Maxine

had to die

She thought back to the anonymous message she’d received, the one with the photo from the crash site. Her face twisted into something manic. The car was mangled beyond recognition. There was no way Maxine could have survived that

Outside the emergency room, Sebastian sat slumped on a bench, his hair messy, his whole figure radiating exhaustion and desperation

At his feet, Brian crouched quietly, his face set in a stubborn little frown, clearly determined not to move an inch until Maxine came out

Later that day, Cleo arrived with Jessica, having picked her up from school. When she saw the pitiful duo squatting at the door like abandoned puppies, she couldn’t help rolling her eyes. You I can understand,” she said, glaring at Sebastian, but Brian? What’s he doing out here? Doesn’t he have school?”

Brian looked up at them and said firmly, I’m staying right here until Mom comes out.”

Cleo let out a sharp laugh and turned to Sebastian. So, whatsame goes for you?”

Sebastian said nothing

Cleo clenched her jaw, trying to hold back the storm boiling inside her. You two are unbelievable. When Maxine was fine, you both couldn’t wait to push her away and worship Kathleen like some damn goddess. And now look at youplaying the heartbroken husband and devoted son?”

She yanked Sebastian up by the collar, teeth gritted. If you really gave a damn, you would’ve stopped defending Kathleen long ago. Hell, you would’ve just paid Maxine off and let her go instead of dragging this out!”

Sebastian met her gaze at last, voice low. I never wanted to divorce her. I’ll deal with Kathleen myself.”

Chapter 151

Cleo let out a cold snort and turned away, refusing to say another word

It had been two days since Maxine went into the ER. They came every day. The doctors said she was still unconscious, her condition critical Even with the surgery, there was no guarantee she’d make it. All they could do now was wait and hope for a miracle

Just then, another round of alarms blared from insidesharp, urgent beeps from the monitoring machines, Cleo shifted uneasily, her voice barely above a whisper. Godwhen is she going to wake up?”
