“Then how did he even know you were here?” Cleo asked, her voice tense. “What if someone brought him here on purpose to lure you into a trap?” Ever since she was kidnapped, Cleo had been a bit paranoid.
Maxine sighed helplessly. “Even though Brian is still young, as the sole heir of the Mason family, the Jensons probably wouldn’t dare harm him, unless something truly unexpected happens.”
Maxine couldn’t figure out what was going through Cleo’s mind. She even imagined someone using Brian as leverage to control her.
Cleo scoffed.
“I asked Dad, then came here on my own,” Brian/piped up, poking his head out from the inner room to look at the two of them. “That day, Dad only found Mom after questioning the driver who dropped me off.”
Cleo rolled her eyes. “Wow, you two are really in sync.”
Brian snorted and turned his head away with disdain. “At most, we’re just using each other.”
