Chapter 258
*If sacrificing myself would bring your princess back, I’d do it in a heartbeat, I replied evenly. “But my question is: what good will attacking the Ironjaw Alpha do right now, other than endanger our overall defense?”
Selena nodded slowly. “We also need to protect the young prince here.”
“Exactly,” I agreed. “We can’t commit our full strength against the Ironjaw Alpha because we have responsibilities here.‘
“So we just sit here and wait while our princess suffers?” someone demanded.
“No,” I said again.
“Then what do you propose?” Selena asked, speaking for everyone.
I leaned forward. “We need a rescue mission–a way to approach the Ironjaw Alpha and attempt to make contact with the princess.”
“But you just said you wouldn’t fight for her…” someone accused.
“No, we don’t fight–not immediately,” I clarified. “But we go there and try to pressure the Ironjaw Alpha.*
General Reed frowned. “I don’t understand the purpose of this.”
“First, we make sure the Ironjaw Alpha isn’t harming the princess. We demand to see her, to confirm she’s safe,” I explained. “When we pressure them, we have an opportunity to engage the Ironjaw Alpha in dialogue. But we don’t need
to attack right away. When he realizes we’re not enough of a threat, he might even be too lazy to chase us from his
territory. Then we can wait nearby for the right moment to rescue our princess.”
“And if he refuses to talk or let us see the princess?” General Reed asked.
My eyes hardened. “Then we fight and take our princess back, whatever the cost.”
The council members exchanged glances before nodding in agreement.
Selena was the first to speak. “Let’s first ensure the princess is safe before considering all–out war with the Ironjaw Alpha. We’ll demand he return our princess and proceed from there.”
“How many warriors do you suggest for this mission?” General Reed inquired.
“An elite force. About two hundred warriors, I answered.
General Reed nodded. “That would allow us to move quickly.” He stood and left with several others to begin preparations.
“When do you leave?” someone asked me.
I shook my head. “I’m not going.”
The room fell silent again. I knew my history with Nathan would only escalate the situation.
My presence would endanger Rachel further, not help her.

Chapter 258
Days passed as I remained with the Nexus pack, spending most of my time with Mateo.
The child was growing rapidly, sometimes making expressions that were eerily similar to Nathan’s. It was like holding a miniature version of my
half–brother.
Yet Mateo smiled brightly for his mother, while for me and others, he remained a serious, curious, and cautious little gentleman.
I sensed something brewing beneath the surface calm. An undercurrent of danger that made my wolf restless.
Suddenly, a faint mental voice broke through my thoughts.
“Boss. Emergency.”

It was Lucas, whom I’d sent to gather intelligence with my exile friends.
“Short version: Madison and Kael are mates!”
“Mates? Holy shit-”
Before I could ask for details, the mental link faded. Lucas had either exhausted himself or couldn’t get any closer.
My heart began pounding. For Lucas to expend so much effort to relay this message, the situation must be dire.
I raced through the pack grounds, bursting into the council hall where Selena was reviewing documents.
“We have a problem,” I gasped, catching my breath. “I just received intelligence that the exile leader Madison has found her mate.”
“How bad is it?” Selena asked, setting down her papers.
“Her mate is the Western Alpha, Dylan’s son, Kael.”
Selena inhaled sharply.
“Madison wants Rachel dead more than anything,” I continued, pacing the room. “This is disastrous. Kael is as manipulative and ruthless as his father, possibly worse.”
“We need to warn Rachel and Nathan,” Selena realized.
I nodded grimly. “Selena, send a message to Gina.” She hurried out to execute my order.
I stared out the window, a sense of dread settling over me.
What might they pull off?
