Chapter 238
Chapter 238
Cleo burst into the ward and, seeing Maxine sitting up in bed, finally burst into tears. In a few quick strides, she rushed to the bedside and wrapped her arms around Maxine. “You silly girl! You scared me half to death!” Cleo cried.
Maxine couldn’t help but give a wry smile, reaching out with the hand not hooked up to the IV to pat Cleo’s shoulder. “Come on, see? I’m fine, aren’t1?”
No sooner had she finished speaking than Cleo gave her a playful knock on the head. “If you ever pull this stunt again, don’t even think about coming back! I’ll throw you out, baggage and all!”
Maxine gave a sheepish nod. “I just wasn’t thinking at the time…”
The police needed solid evidence before they could act, but with Brian in the hands of those two lunatics, every second counted. Maxine was so frantic that she barely had time to think, she just jumped in her car and sped off to find him.
Cleo stole a glance at Sebastian sitting on the sofa. “So, once you’re discharged, are you coming home with me or going back to his place?”
Maxine looked at her in surprise. “Home? Did you find a new place?”
Cleo let out a helpless sigh and tapped Maxine on the forehead. “Are you out of your mind? We can’t stay at the hotel anymore. The boss found out when I was looking for a new place, so Urban helped me find one.”
Maxine looked at her in surprise. “Urban’s back from overseas?”
Cleo shook her head. “Breaking into overseas markets isn’t that easy. Those foreign executives all have some racial bias. These days, Urban can barely keep his head above water over there.”
Cleo shook her head sympathetically and said, “Mr. Soto’s been getting doors slammed in his face left and right overseas lately.”
Thank goodness for Urban’s help, otherwise, after Maxine was discharged, the two of them would have had nowhere to go except the Mason family. If that wasn’t an option, they’d be crashing at the police station.
Sebastian, who had been quietly listening nearby, cleared his throat. “I’ll hire personal bodyguards to stay with you at all times. But don’t worry too much, the police are already investigating the Jenson family because of the kidnapping case.”
At the mention, Maxine set down her book. “The Jenson family? What’s happening with them now?”
Sebastian was about to speak when Cleo cut in excitedly, “Because of this, their mountain villa got raided! Hamlin is under investigation now, and Gabriel won’t be getting out anytime soon!”
Cleo couldn’t contain her excitement whenever she brought it up. “This incident has been a goldmine for news stories! Because of that magnificent villa, the public has started paying attention to Hamlin and his son Gabriel.”
Cleo lowered her voice and said, “None of the other families managed to get their villas built, only the Jenson family did. You should see all the scathing comments people are leaving in the comments section of the official website!”
Public sentiment was particularly volatile these days. Unlike the well–established Mason family, the Jenson family didn’t have such deep roots. The Mason family’s home, passed down for generations, was practically a heritage property. If not for the government’s preservation efforts in recent years, their old mansion would likely have become a tourist attraction by now.
“Yeah,” Maxine replied, “I’ve seen a lot of buzz about this online lately. So, what’s the latest on the kidnapping case? And how’s London doing, you know, the woman who can’t speak?”
Cleo said, “The two guys who kidnapped Brian have been caught. Hamlin put all the blame on them. The police have sent London home. As for the man who kidnapped her, when we found him, he panicked and ran. By the time they tracked him down, he’d already fallen off a cliff and died.”
“What?” Maxine gasped, her eyes wide with shock.

Chapter 238
She thought for a moment before saying, “Let me guess, the two guys who kidnapped Brian must have freely admitted to the kidnapping, huh?”
Cleo gasped, “How did you figure that out?”
Maxine said, “I bet that guy who ran off was most likely killed
Hamlin’s orders.”
