Chapter 303
Nathan’s POV
I surveyed the aftermath of what had been a brutal fight.
Bodies of wolves lay scattered across the blood–soaked ground, some still in their shifted forms, others having reverted to human in death.
The metallic scent of blood mixed with the earthy smell of dirt and sweat hung heavy in the air.
Lucas gently lowered me to the ground near a tree, supporting my weight as my legs threatened to buckle beneath me.
Every inch of my body screamed in agony. I touched my chest with my hand, gasping for breath.
Tyler turned, his eyes widening as he caught sight of me.
“Moon goddess!” he exclaimed, rushing toward us. “Nathan, you’re alive! Are you-” His words died in his throat as he took in my appearance.
“Tyler,” I managed, my voice a hoarse whisper. “Send men to find Carter. Bring him back. Now.”
Tyler’s gaze darted uncertainly between my injuries and my face. “But Nathan, your wounds-”
“Now,” I repeated. “And Kael’s forces–they’ve lost at least half their numbers. Send Caspian to pursue them. Their morale is broken. This is our chance to finish this.”
Tyler hesitated only briefly before nodding. “Yes, Alpha.” He turned, barking orders to the nearby warriors who immediately moved to comply.
Lturned to Lucas, who still hovered protectively beside me. “Thank you. Go, he needs you,‘ I said quietly.
He nodded once, his expression grim. Without hesitation, he shifted and bounded away, joining the group heading toward the forest.
I closed my eyes briefly, remembering Carter’s reckless plan from days ago.
“Let me be captured“, he’d said, “to distract Kael while you escape“.
His eyes had been resolute, determined. Despite our complicated history, he’d been willing

crifice himself for Rachel, for the civilians.
The last time I’d seen him, he was fighting Kael at the edge of the trap, buying time for Lucas and me to escape.
My chest tightened with guilt. I should never have left him.
I don’t want anyone sacrificing themselves for me. I want him to live a good life. I’m letting go of what happened before.
From my vantage point, I could see Caspian’s warriors flanking the retreating enemy forces. Their howls echoed across the valley as they drove Kael’s remaining troops further into disarray.
Despite the pain wracking my body, I allowed myself a small, grim smile. The enemy was running scared, terrified of more traps like the flaming oil pits that had decimated their numbers.
“Alpha Nathan,” a young warrior approached/breaking me from my thoughts. “We still haven’t located Carter. The area where he was last seen is completely engulfed in flames. We can’t get close.”
“Damn it!” I growled, my fist clenching so tightly my knuckles turned white. “Keep looking. Get everyone available searching for him,
My own screams increased my suffering,
Chapter 303
Gina suddenly appeared at my side, her face streaked with tears as she examined my wounds. “Brother, you’re hurt so badly, I’ll go get some medicine, shé sobbed, her voice breaking with concern.
I replied, “It’s okay. Gina.”
Her hands trembled as she gently touched my shoulder, eyes wide with terror at the sight of so much blood. “Nathan, please hold on, she whispered, her words choked by sobs. “I can’t lose you too. You’re all I have left.”
“This is my fault,‘ I muttered, ignoring her concern. “I insisted on this plan even when he warned me it was too dangerous. I shouldn’t have left him there. Carter…”
“They’ll find him,” Gina assured me, her voice soft but firm. “He’ll be okay. I believe in him, just like I believe in you.”
I looked down at Gina, seeing the worry etched across her face. “I’m sorry,” I said softly. “If I’d just listened to Rachel from the beginning… we wouldn’t be here now.”
My thoughts drifted to Rachel. Her spirit was fading fast, draining away after using the Moon Goddess’s power. The price had been too high. had to get back to her soon.
A mental shout through our mind link cut through my thoughts. “Alpha! We found Carter! We’re bringing him back now. He’s alive but badly injured.”
Relief flooded through me. “They found him,” I told Gina. “He’s alive.”
Tears sprang to her eyes as she nodded. “Thank the Moon Goddess.”
“Gina, will you make sure Emma treats him right away?” I straightened, pulling away from her support.
“Of course,” she said, wiping at her eyes. “Wait–where are you going? Can you even walk?”
“I need to see Rachel.” My voice cracked slightly on her name. “I need to see her now.”
“Nathan, your injuries-*
“I can walk,” I insisted, taking a painful step forward to prove my point.
I had barely made it a few yards toward the castle when I saw Selena running toward me, her face ashen. “Alpha Nathan! Rachel…she…” she called, her voice tinged with panic, choking back sobs as she struggled to speak through her tears.
My heart constricted painfully. “Rachel! I…I am back…” I excitedly called out, already knowing something was terribly wrong.
“She needs you–now,” Selena gasped as she reached me. “Her life force is draining rapidly. We’ve tried everything, but… we can’t help her.”
I couldn’t bear to hear that she was dying. I would have given her all the freedom she desired, anything she wanted, if only it meant she could
stay.
Rachel!
