The Alpha’s Purchased Slave
Chapter 307
Rachel’s POV
I became aware of wet cheeks first–tears streaming down my face as Nathan’s words echoed like daggers: ‘No. Never. The devastating finality in his voice when I’d asked if he’d ever loved me cut straight through my heart.
I remembered his voice at the Moon Goddess’s altar, calling me back from darkness, and fragments of our conversation afterward. Then realization hit me like a physical blow.
“He sacrificed himself for me!” I gasped, my voice breaking. “Oh, Moon Goddess! No! You said you didn’t love me, but why would you sacrifice yourself? Nathan… how could you, such a selfish man-”
I sat bolt upright, disoriented. This wasn’t the temple or the meadow. I was back in my bedroom in the castle.
Looking down, I spotted Nathan lying not far from me on the floor, motionless.
His body was covered in horrible wounds, cuts, and bruises. His shirt was torn, revealing deep gashes across his chest. Dried blood caked his
skin.
My heart clenched with fresh terror. I scrambled off the bed, nearly falling in my haste.
“Nathan, Nathan…” I whispered, my voice trembling as I knelt beside him. “What happened to you? Don’t die! Please don’t die!”
I turned him over carefully, kneeling closer as I placed my ear near his face. There was a faint breath, barely perceptible, and the weakest heartbeat! He was alive, but barely.
A memory flashed through my mind–my blood had healing properties. Without hesitation, I looked around and spotted scissors on my dressing table. I hurried to grab them, then used the sharp blade to slice a cut along my forearm.
Blood welled immediately, and a sharp sting shot through my arm.
But the pain was nothing compared to the agony in my heart. I couldn’t lose him–the father of my child, the only man I’d ever truly loved, despite everything.
I pried Nathan’s mouth open and held my bleeding arm above it, letting crimson drops fall between his lips.
“Come on, Nathan,” I squeezed my arm harder, trying to force more blood into mouth. “Damn it! Wake up!”
Nothing happened. I continued for what seemed like hours, my own blood soaking into his shirt, but his eyes remained closed, his breathing shallow.
With great effort, I managed to move him onto the bed, cleaning his wounds and changing his torn clothes for fresh ones. When I was done, I leaned down and kissed his forehead, tears falling onto his face.
“Please come back to me,” I whispered.
A knock at the door startled me. When I opened it, Selena, Gina and Victoria stood there, their eyes widening at the sight of me.
“Rachel!” they exclaimed simultaneously.
Gina pushed past them, throwing her arms around me with a sob. “You’re alive! You’re still alive!”
I patted her back gently. “Nathan saved me,” I said, my voice steadier than I felt. “He’s… not doing well. I’ve done everything I can.” I took a deep breath. “We need to talk about the war. Let’s end this first.”

They nodded through their tears. “Okay.”
Gina composed herself and provided an update as we walked through the castle corridors. “It wasn’t much of a full–scale attack, more like a reconnaissance mission. There weren’t many enemies, and they retreated quickly after we counterattacked.”
“What about casualties?” I asked, dreading the answer.
“Minimal, Gina assured me. “We controlled the situation well.”
I noticed the hesitation in her eyes. “What did Nathan do exactly?”
Gina’s voice caught. “He… he used himself as bait.” Tears glistened in her eyes. “You’ll have to ask Carter for details.
“Where is Carter? Is he okay?”
“He’s here, back at the castle, but he was injured,” Gina explained. “He’ll be fine, though… he just needs rest for now.”
I felt a wave of relief. “I should go see him.”
Gina placed a hand on my arm. “Wait, Rachel. I came to find you because there are people outside who want to speak with Nathan.”
We made our way to the courtyard, where I found a large group of thin, dirty people–mostly women and children–gathered. Their clothes were tattered, their faces etched with fear and exhaustion.
“They escaped from Kael’s camp,” Gina explained quietly. “They’re the ones who brought Carter back.”
I was shocked that enemies would help Carter. Tyler, Victoria, Apollo, Selena, and Adam were already there, organizing shelter and food for the refugees.
When the crowd saw me, they gasped in collective surprise, their eyes widening with recognition before they bowed their heads respectfully.
