Chapter 36 Shocked Dom

Dom’s expression shifted rapidly, from shock to utter disbelief.

He remained silent for a long moment. Finally, his voice broke the silence, low and controlled. “Come with me.” The butler quickly stepped forward to support him, guiding him toward the study with steady hands.

Charles turned to Jessica and Arthur. “Stay here. I’ll be back soon.”

Jessica watched them leave, father and son walking side by side. She still felt the tight knot of nerves in her stomach, her heart pounding in her chest.

She hadn’t expected Dom’s reaction to be so harsh. Had he known about her past with Hugh? If he had, she must look to him like nothing more than a woman with a tarnished reputation.

“Mommy, don’t be scared. If they don’t accept you as a part of the family, we’ll leave,” Arthur said, his voice steady and reassuring.

She gripped his hand tightly, running her fingers through his soft curls. “Mommy’s fine,” she whispered, her voice barely a murmur.

Inside the study, Charles handed his father the paternity test results. He explained the events from five years ago with a simple, matter-of-fact tone.

When they reentered the room, Jessica could tell that Dom’s mood had shifted. His anger wasn’t gone, but it was tempered now, his face still a mask of grim determination.

Dom returned to his seat, his sharp gaze fixed on Arthur. With a flick of his fingers, he motioned for the boy to come over. “Come here, brat.”

“I’m not a brat,” Arthur shot back, refusing to move.

Dom studied him for a long moment before sighing. Realizing this was his grandson, he tried again, softer this time. “You’re Arthur, right? Come to Grandpa.”

“You’re not my grandpa,” Arthur muttered, still holding a grudge. The words were low but firm.

Dom’s face darkened once more. It was rare for anyone to defy him so openly. He didn’t take kindly to it.

Jessica stepped forward, her voice smooth, trying to ease the tension. “Dom, just say what you need to. He’ll listen.”

Without warning, Charles spoke up, his voice cutting through the heavy silence. “Jessica, he’s your father- in-law,”

Jessica froze, her eyes flicking to him in surprise. Did he really want to go through with it? Didn’t he realize how impossible that was?

“Mommy, you don’t have to go through with it. I won’t call him Grandpa either,” Arthur interjected, his tone unyielding, as if trying to shield her.

Jessica winced. Wasn’t that just adding fuel on the fire?

As expected, Dom’s expression grew darker.

Dom’s glare locked onto Arthur. Was the boy really going to stand his ground like this? Was he willing to

reject Dom as a grandfather just because Dom wouldn’t accept Jessica as his daughter-in-law?

Jessica felt cornered. She could see Charles wasn’t helping. In fact, he seemed to be pushing her deeper into this uncomfortable situation. He wanted her to call Dom ger father-in-law.

Before the silence could stretch any longer, footsteps echoed from the hallway. A woman’s voice followed shortly after, sharp and urgent. “Dom, there’s something I need to talk to you about.”

Jane rushed into the room, her voice frantic. She barely noticed the others before she spoke, her words tumbling out in a rush.

But as her eyes landed on Jessica, her gaze turned icy. “You? Who let you in here?” Her voice was a razor- sharp edge.

Charles, surprisingly calm, turned to Jane. “Since you’re here, let me introduce you. This is my wife, Jessica.”

井

Jane froze, her eyes widening in shock. “I’m sorry, she’s your wife?”

“That’s right,” Charles said slowly, his voice calm, almost deliberate. “I was planning to tell you and Hugh tomorrow about the celebration, but I’ll let you know now.”

Jane stood frozen, too stunned to speak. Her gaze flicked between Charles and Jessica, her mind reeling. After a long silence, she finally turned to Dom. “Dom, did you hear what he just said? How can you accept a woman like this as your daughter-in-law?”

Before Dom could respond, Arthur’s voice rang out, full of anger. “You witch! You hit my mommy and kidnapped me! I still haven’t gotten back at you for that!”

Dom’s brow furrowed, his sharp eyes narrowing as he focused on Jane. “Kidnapped? What’s going on here?”

Jane’s eyes flickered with anxiety. “Dom, don’t listen to him. He’s just making things up

She shot a glare at Arthur, her thoughts racing. She had come here to expose the truth about Charles’ illegitimate child, but this was moving too quickly. Charles marrying Jessica was not what she was expecting.

“I’m not making it up! You’re a bad woman! You kidnapped me to the hospital to do experiments on me! You even hit my mommy! I’m calling the police to arrest you!” Arthur’s defiance was unwavering, his words sharp and clear.

At the mention of experiments, Dom’s expression grew colder, darker. His piercing eyes locked onto Jane. “Experiments? You better explain yourself.”

Not long ago, Dom had refused to acknowledge Arthur as his grandson, but now, he stood firmly behind the boy, his protective instincts kicking in.

Jessica felt a jolt of surprise at the sudden shift in Dom’s demeanor. This wasn’t the man she had expected.

Charles said nothing, his silence an unspoken agreement with Arthur’s boldness.

Jane was momentarily speechless, her mind racing for an explanation. She stammered, “Dom, I didn’t kidnap him for experiments … I … I just wanted him and Hugh to have a paternity test.”

She paused, eyes narrowing as she shot Jessica a venomous look. Her voice grew colder, tinged with spite.

“Who knows if this child even belongs to Charles? We don’t know what kind of tricks she’s been using.”

“I don’t care! You kidnapped me! I’m calling the police right now!” Arthur declared, grabbing his mother’s phone, ready to dial.

“I told you, I didn’t kidnap you! You … you little brat!” Jane reached for the phone, but Dom’s stern gaze stopped her in her tracks. He wasn’t about to let her harm the boy.

Desperation crept into Jane’s voice as she turned to Charles. “Charles, aren’t you going to do something? Are you really going to let me get thrown into the police station for something I didn’t do?”

Charles’ eyes moved between Jane and Arthur. After a long pause, his voice broke the tension, calm but firm. “Jane, you did kidnap him and hurt Jessica. Kids don’t forget. How about you apologize to them and see if they can forgive you?”
