Vivian snorted coldly. “You really think I’d buy that?”
Sebastian calmly explained, “The trial is imminent, and lately, public opinion online hasn’t been kind to Eastland Entertainment. If Hamlin resorts to desperate measures, I’m concerned for your safety.”
Vivian snorted coldly. She strode over to Brian, grabbed him by the collar with one hand, and unceremoniously scooped him up from the ground.
Ever since Brian started school, this was the first time he’d been treated this way. Sebastian almost always talked to him as if he were an adult, and since he was mature for his age, he would normally refuse being treated like a child.
But this time, he was simply caught off guard.
Vivian tucked Brian under her arm with one hand, arched a brow at Sebastian, and said, “Relax. My daughter and I are both gold medalists. Besides, with Hatholand’s strict gun control laws, nothing will happen to them with us around.”
With that, she walked over to Sebastian and gave him a firm pat on the shoulder. “Instead of worrying about us, you’d better hire a couple of bodyguards for yourself. We’ve got Maxine’s safety covered.”
Only then did Brian snap out of his daze, squirming to break free.
Under Sebastian’s astonished gaze, Vivian readily put Brian down. “Alright, if there’s nothing else, you can go back now.”
After she finished speaking, she took Jessica and headed upstairs to rest, only to find that everyone else remained motionless.
Vivian frowned in exasperation and glared at Sebastian. “What? You actually want to crash here tonight?”
The moment the words left her mouth, Brian looked up at Maxine with puppy–dog eyes. “Mom,” he pleaded softly, “can Dad and I spend the night here?”
“You!” Vivian snapped, exasperated. “Aren’t you two pushing your luck a bit?”
Sebastian turned to Maxine and said, “It’s getting late, Brian really needs to rest. If it’s alright with you, could we just stay here for the night? I promise we
won’t be any trouble.”
Maxine glanced at the clock, it was already past 11 p.m. Driving this late at night wasn’t safe. She couldn’t help but sigh in resignation. “Alright, just for tonight. You two behave yourselves and stay in the guest room. Don’t disturb anyone else,” she said.
Hearing her give in, the others all had their own reactions.
Brian could barely keep himself from cheering and jumping up on the spot. Sebastian suppressed his excitement, a small smile tugging at his lips as he said, “Alright, don’t worry. We’ll be quiet.”
Vivian gasped in disbelief, “Why?”
Just then, Lisa, standing upstairs, finally spoke up. “Mom, can you please stay out of their business for once?”
Muttering under her breath, she added, “Besides, they already have a kid together. Don’t forget, you’re divorced yourself, since when did you become an expert at giving relationship advice?”
Vivian snapped, flexing her wrist irritably. “You’d better think twice before you speak.”
Seeing her like that, unpleasant memories flashing through her mind, Lisa shuddered. Forcing an awkward smile at Maxine, she said, “Never mind, you guys carry on. I just remembered I’ve got something to take care of.”
She glanced at Vivian again and said, “If you need anything, just let me know. I’ll do whatever I can!”
‘That is, as long as Mom doesn’t interfere,’ she thought to herself.
