Chapter 398
I didn’t need anyone to tell me who he was talking to.
Norlan.
The guy had been floating on a damn cloud since Brie’s twenty–first birthday and her transition two weeks ago.
Turns out they were fated mates.
Norlan was smitten. Gone. So far gone.
He looked like he’d been high on Brie since the second their eyes met.
Funny how fate works, though.
Of all the females on earth, Norlan had to be paired with someone from the pack of Alpha Saint – Kester’s number one rival.
A man who would gladly rip Kester apart if given the chance. And one Kester wouldn’t hesitate to bury six feet under, no questions asked.
Yet here we are.
Brie and Norlan can’t keep their hands off each other.
Kester can’t stop rolling his eyes at the whole situation.
And I–pregnant, hormonal, overly pampered, and trying not to cry at commercials–am stuck in the middle of this beautiful chaos.
But even with all the tension, the politics, and the tragedy we’ve survived…
Something about this life felt worth it.
Maybe it was the quiet moments.
Or the way Kester looked at me when he thought I wasn’t watching.
Or maybe it was knowing that even with everything we lost, we still had something to fight for.
A family.
A future.
Us.
The door slowly slid open, and I turned my head just enough to see who had come in.
I was met with the brightest smile I’d seen all day – wide, genuine, reaching all the way to his eyes. I wanted to match it. God, I wanted to. But all I could manage was a tired, crooked lift of my lips. A smile that didn’t quite reach.
His expression faltered. He crossed the room in a heartbeat and dropped to his knees in front of me, “Hey. Come on, my love… what is it?” he asked so tenderly, “Did someone say something? Did someone hurt you?”
I shook my head, my eyes drifting downward. ‘No, Kes… It’s nothing like that.”
He didn’t interrupt me.
I sighed, “It’s just… I mean… It’s all happening so fast. Like a fairytale.”

Chapter 398
He bowed his head for a second before lifting his gaze to meet mine again. “I know, baby, Who would have thought, right?” He smiled.
“I lost our baby, Kester… I just feel like a mother who already failed… Even though I still have two inside me, needing me to be strong for them.” I whispered.
Kester’s shoulders lowered a little as he cupped my face in his hands. “No… Don’t say that. Don’t even think that.”
I attempted to look away to hide the tears that were already gathering in my eyes, but he held my face still. “Hey… look at me,” he whispered. “You didn’t fail, Kasmine. You didn’t do anything wrong.”
My throat tightened.
“You’re still carrying two babies. You’re still their mother. And you’re still fighting every single day to protect them. That’s not failure, that’s strength. A kind I don’t even know if I deserve to witness, let alone be beside.”
His thumb brushed over my cheekbone. I didn’t even realize I was crying until I felt the warmth of his touch wipe away the tears.
I blinked hard, drawing in a long, shuddering breath. “I feel so… hollow, Kester,” I whispered. “Like I’m empty and full at the same time. It doesn’t make sense. My heart is breaking and pounding at the same time.”
He reached for my hand and brought it to his chest, pressing it right over his heartbeat. “Then let me fill up that space.
