Chapter

Since childhood, I’d been raised by the Fielton family to be their future daughterinlaw

At 20, I married Kaiden Fielton

At 24, I gave birth to our son, Nash Fielton

Nash took after Kaidenquiet and reserved, never really close to me

For years, I would bring them each a cup of milk before they went to bed

But that night, Kaiden dropped his cup, and Nash secretly poured his milk out

Suddenly, I felt tired

So I decided to divorce Kaiden

As I handed the divorce papers over, he frowned, displeased, and asked, You’re divorcing me over a cup of milk?”

Yes.”

What about our son

What do you plan to do about Nash?”

Kaiden’s expression turned blank, just as usual, his voice steady and businesslike as he questioned me

Sitting across from him, I felt more like his rival in a business negotiation than his wife. I calmly replied, I’ll give up custody

The Eastside house will be signed over to him as a onetime payment for child support

After all, Nash carried the Fielton name. He would be better off living with Kaiden, as they seemed more like a true family

Kaiden looked at me with indifferent eyes, as if he couldn’t understand why I was making

such a fuss

Valerie. He softened his voice. If it’s about the milk, I’m sorry. You know I was drunk last nightI didn’t mean to treat you that way.”

He remained convinced that the milk was the real problem

Last night, Kaiden came home late after a work event

I had waited up for a few hours and fallen asleep on the couch. When he opened the door, the cold air he brought in woke me up

I got up to see him take off his coat and rub his forehead, a clear sign of his discomfort. Sol immediately went to the kitchen and brought him a cup of milk

Our marriage was never especially loving, but at least we made a decent front

So I never expected him to overreact to a single question. I simply said, Who did you meet? The perfume on you smells familiar.”

But Kaiden suddenly let go of the cup

I couldn’t react in time. The glass slipped from our fingers, and its crash shattered the quiet warmth of the room

Kaiden’s face grew cold, his whole body tense

He stared at me, warning, Valerie Coxwell, you’ve crossed the line

From now on, don’t wait up for me at night. And don’t bother with the milk anymore.”

And Nash, after seeing what his father had done, secretly poured his own milk down the drain

When I caught him, he stood in the doorway and apologized, his face as blank as Kaiden’s. Sorry, Mother. If Father won’t drink it, I won’t either.”

To them, it was such a trivial matter that I had no reasonand no rightto make such a big deal out of it
