Chapter 6

The baby was brought back as Sienna wished, but his face was chalk white and his breathing faint. He looked as if he only had minutes left.

Sienna broke down, sobbing and begging the doctor holding the baby to save him, but he gave no response. The baby probably

couldn’t be saved.

Then, Sienna started lashing out. “Why did this happen? When I came to Valoria, that bitch’s baby was perfectly fine, and she was still the princess! Why is my baby dying? That bitch cut me off for weeks, yet the minute I called, she showed up! She must’ve seduced my husband! That bitch!”

So, once again, I was the one to blame, as if I had the power to orchestrate any of this.

In my previous life, my baby survived because my body held up.

When I first came to Valoria, I never believed in fairy tales, so I kept my guard up. Andre would slip out of our bedroom every night. One time, I trailed him at a distance and watched him crawl into another woman’s bed.

I heard him whisper to her, “Just wait a little longer. I already have someone carrying my baby. Her blood will help you, and her baby can donate marrow for our son. Don’t worry, I never touched her. It was through IVF. I’d never sleep with another woman. But I have to pretend I’m in love so that she doesn’t catch on. It’s exhausting!”

Under the moonlight, his cruelty was plain as day. I pressed a hand over my mouth and crept back to my room. Abortion wasn’t an option.

I was alone in a foreign country. If I ended the pregnancy, I might lose the only protection the baby gave me. So, I did the only thing I could. I took care of my body and ate supplements to keep the baby strong.

Sienna did the opposite. Drunk on her new title, she threw tantrums, refused to eat, demanded attention, and even had the head chef killed because she didn’t like the food.

People learned to leave her alone. She ate less and never exercised, so, of course, her baby was frail. After they took the baby’s bone marrow, he collapsed.

In my previous life, they had taken my baby’s marrow too, but he was strong. Besides, I had kept my head down and hadn’t screamed, so Andre let the doctors save my baby.

Sienna, on the other hand, had already burned through everyone’s patience long before the delivery. Her baby stopped breathing not long after. She cradled the tiny body, finally realizing the golden life she had been bragging about had been a lie from the start.

She calmed down and went quiet.

Andre stormed in and slapped her hard across the face. “What did you do? Why was there rejection?”

Watching the footage, I put the pieces together. The marrow must not have matched his other child.

Andre ripped the lifeless baby from her arms and flung him to the floor.

Sienna clawed for air as Andre’s hand tightened around her throat. She could only choke. He dragged her off the bed and let her hit the tiles.

“Tomorrow, you’ll start another round of IVF. You’ll keep going until you produce a child whose marrow won’t be rejected. Otherwise, I won’t spare you!”
