Chapter 20 Shadow Island’s Deal
Facing my question, Faye let out a long sigh, and Ginnie looked frustrated as well.
Ginnie pointed toward the sea. “After we arrived on the island, we were completely exhausted, so we fell asleep on the beach. When we woke up, the lifeboat hadn’t been secured and had been washed away by the waves.”
I felt incredibly disappointed and wanted to scream at them both.
I forced myself to stay calm and asked, “Then were there any supplies at all?”
Ginnie took out four bottles of mineral water. Two of them were already empty.
Other than that, there was a box of compressed biscuits–only three packs remained inside.
The only thing that brought me any joy was that the lifeboat had carried a short axe, a very useful survival tool.
Faye looked into my eyes and said softly, “Mr. Leon, as you can see, Ginnie and I don’t have the ability to survive on this island. I’d like to offer you all the food, water, and the axe, and hope that you’ll agree to let us join you.”
I let out a cold chuckle. “Elsa probably already told you I’m a shameless criminal. Even if you didn’t offer me the axe, I could’ve just taken it.”
Faye’s voice was calm and unafraid. “Mr. Leon, we believe you’re a man of integrity. If you weren’t, those women with you would already be slaves on this island. I hope we can form a team of survivors. On this island, we’ll need each other to make it through. If a rescue team does come to Shadow Island, I’ll make sure to take you with us when we leave.”
I nodded. “Fine. I accept your request. I’ll let you join our group. However…”
My gaze turned toward the distant beach.
Elsa was searching for food far away.
I said coldly, “I plan to kill her.”

Faye said to me, “Mr. Leon, on a deserted island, death is a kind of release, not a punishment. And this is Shadow Island. Besides us, there may be other survivors who were thrown here by enemies. They endure hellish torment and fight to survive. I believe at least some of them made it.”
I nodded. “You know a lot… I’m impressed.”
Faye’s expression grew heavier. “Anyone who manages to survive on Shadow Island for a long time must be incredibly strong–and ruthless. Unlike you, Mr. Leon, they probably don’t have a sense of morality. When the time comes, our survivor group will face enormous danger. But Elsa… Elsa could serve as bait, as a beacon—a warning system for us.”
I understood what Faye meant.
Shadow Island was dangerous, and it was very likely that powerful survivors had made it through.
If they came to attack us, Elsa, isolated and alone, would be their first target.
I accepted Faye’s proposal. “You’re right. Letting Elsa live in misery might be a better punishment.”
Ginnie let out a breath of relief. “In that case, we’ll follow you back to the survivor camp now.”
Faye picked up the axe and handed it to me.
I happily took the axe and led the two of them away?
About 800 meters out, we faintly heard Elsa’s desperate, terrified screams: “Where is everyone? Why is everyone gone? Ahhh… why did you abandon me?!”
A satisfied smile crept onto my lips.
Faye was right. Death is a release. Living means more suffering.
Back at the cave, I introduced the two newcomers to the rest of the group.
Our survivor team had grown to:
