DREW’S POV

I was still fuming over what my father said he’d do to Becca if she dared tell anyone what she saw in the woods.
Why the hell did I care so much? She was nothing to me. Just a weird, awkward girl who smelled like crushed leaves and wild honey.
Just admit you like her,‘ Remus yawned in the back of my head. ‘She’s got some nice breasts too. It’s a shame she hides them under all that fabric.
‘How the hell do you know that?‘
I have eyes, genius. Plus, I can tell these things.’
You’re wrong, I grunted, pacing toward the window like some force was pulling me there.
I pulled the curtain aside.
Immediately my eyes found Becca. She was standing in the yard with Mika, Walter, my father, and Hilary. Her arms were crossed and her back was stiff. The sunlight made her dark hair gleam like ink on velvet. I didn’t need to see her face to know she looked… perfect.
And she’d look even more perfect bent over with you pumping behind her,‘ Remus snickered.
‘Shut the hell up, I growled. He was such a pervert, but damn it… the image flashed behind my eyes like lightning. I pictured myself behind her with my hand fisted in her hair and her soft moans being swallowed up by the trees around us.
I saw that, Remus chuckled. ‘You’re gone for her.‘
I didn’t respond. I just stared at her still. It was like she could sense me because her head slowly spun around and our eyes locked. It was like I had forgotten how to breathe. My skin tingled and my damn heart began to do some weird shit it had never done before.
A pulse throbbed in my neck.
“Shit, I hissed, pulling the curtains closed like I’d been caught naked.
‘So you don’t like her, huh? Remus laughed.
I don’t, I gritted out.
“Then why the hell is your heart racing, and why is your dick harder than a damn brick?”
I glanced down and cursed under my breath. My body was reacting to her like a drug. What the hell was wrong with me? Did I suddenly have a fetish for nerds?

“I need a shower,” I muttered.
‘Great. Let’s go, Remus said.
‘Alone.

I blocked him out and hit the shower. But no amount of steam could scrub away the ache twisting inside me. I couldn’t stop thinking about her. About protecting her. About killing anyone who dared touch her.
My thoughts were a swirling storm the entire time I dried off and dressed. My wolf kept prowling under my skin and making sexual jokes about me and Becca. Sometimes I wish he was dumb.
I finally made it downstairs. I was late. But I didn’t care. I needed to see Becca and make sure my father hadn’t done something cruel while I was upstairs taking care of myself. But to my spurred the dining room was
empty.
“Omega,” I barked at the closest butler. “Where the hell is everyone?”
“They’re still outside, Master Drew. They are seeing Miss Mika off.”
Figures. Always a show with Mika.
I barely had time to sit before the door flung open. My father strolled in, carrying Hilary in his arms like some damn trophy. He was nuzzling her, kissing her cheek, stroking her hair like he didn’t just make her bleed the night before.
I felt bile rise in my throat. I remembered my mother’s face and the way she’d watch him, begging silently for a fraction of that affection. And all she got was pain. Now look at him with Hilary, acting like he was the perfect husband.
“Drew,” he said brightly, like we were all just one big happy pack. “I didn’t think I’d see you this morning. Thought I’d have to send the hounds to drag you down.”
“I almost didn’t come,” I said, sliding into my seat. “But I wanted to see if the Luna was alright.” I turned to Hilary, keeping my voice gentle. “Are you okay, Luna?”
Her lips parted in surprise. She nodded. ‘I’m fine, Drew. Thank you for asking. It means a lot to me that you were worried about me.”
“Why wouldn’t she be alright? You think I don’t do enough to take care of my mate?”
“I just think any man who hits a woman is a damn coward?
The silverware clattered as my father slammed his hand on the table. His jaw twitched in rage.
“You watch your mouth, boy. Eat your food and keep your damn opinions to yourself”
I leaned back in my seat, my eyes narrowed with fury. I couldn’t understand him. He beat his mate bloody last night and today he was acting like he’d do anything to protect her. If I wasn’t there, maybe he would have

I suspected he used to hit my mother behind closed doors, but because she was the daughter of an Alpha, her wounds probably healed within hours, so it would be easy to hide his abuse, But Hilary was human. She was weak and fragile do bruises like this would take days, maybe weeks, to heal.
The omegas began to bring out our plates. My father, as always, took the first bite. It was law around here. The alpha had to be the first to cat.
He swallowed his first bite.
“Now you may cat,” he announced like we were peasants at his feet.
But I wasn’t hungry. Not even a little. I couldn’t eat until I knew Becca was okay.
“Where is she?” I asked, eyes scanning the room.
“Who?” Father asked.
“Becca.”
“Your sister is not feeling well.”
My fists clenched. “She’s not my sister. Good Goddess!”
He chuckled. “Maybe not by blood, but on paper. So there should be no kissing, no touching, and no fucking. Clear?”
“Trust me,” I huffed. “She’s not my type.”
“Neither was your mother, but that didn’t stop me from putting my seed inside her.”
I saw red. I half–rose from my chair. My father looked smug, daring me to make a move. Remus surged forward in my chest and snarled at me.
‘Calm down. Don’t do anything stupid, he warned me.
I sat back down.
“I hate you,” I whispered as my eyes scrutinized my father.
“And I’m not overly fond of you either. But since you’re my only heir, you’ll have to do. Now, about next weekend, the werewolf king and his daughter are attending the ball we’re hosting. I expect you to impress them. If the king likes you, you’ll marry the princess.”
“I’m not marrying that brat,” I snapped.
“But you two would be a match made in werewolf heaven,” he chuckled. “You don’t have a choice. If the king picks you, you do as you’re told. End of story”
He turned back to Hilary, brushing a curl from her cheek, then kissing the same lips he busted up last night.

I could see it in her eyes. She loved him. But she was also terrified of him too. That much was obvious.
I was just about to get up and walk the hell out when the doors burst open.
The energy in the room shifted. I felt her before I even saw her.
Becca marched in like a goddamn queen. Her hair was a little windblown and her cheeks flushed with adrenaline. There were two police officers trailing behind her.
“There he is, officers,” she said, her voice cool and steady. “Devon Clawbelle.” She pointed at my father.
