Evelyn didn’t say a word, but Walter gently spoke up, “Don’t jump to conclusions without proof. You’ll only end up giving people something to talk about.”
Helena nodded in agreement. Just thinking about how someone had gotten into Evelyn’s place with a password made her skin crawl.
She said, “Didn’t the R&D team at our company just finish developing that new smart lock? They’re still looking for testers, right? Why not install one at Evie’s place?”
Walter, though born into a powerful family, had always placed a high value on cultivating domestic tech talent.
Harmon Group’s R&D department had originally been built to save time, money, and manpower across the company. But many of the technologies they developed had since been absorbed by national agencies and put to use across a variety of sectors.
Honestly, Harmon’s R&D division alone could go toe–to–toe with any top–tier government team.
Walter finished his last sip of coffee and gently set down the cup.
His eyes softened as he nodded. “I’ve got an important meeting this morning. I’ll arrange for someone from the tech team to swing by and get it installed later. I’ll reach out once it’s scheduled.”
Evelyn glanced at the two people, half amused. No one was going to ask her, the person actually living there. They just decided everything like it was already settled.
Although they had arranged for everything, Evelyn still asked politely, “Walter, isn’t this a bit too much trouble?”
After all, Walter wasn’t just anyone. He was the CEO of a top–fifty global corporation. She couldn’t justify bothering him over something as small as a door lock.
“Oh, come on. You’re Helena’s best friend, aren’t you?” Walter flashed her a warm smile.
He then turned to Helena. “By the way, swing by later and pick up Rockie. Let him stay with Evie for a while. Enjoy your breakfast. I’ve gotta head to the office.”
He nodded at Evelyn, then walked toward the front hall.
Evelyn went back to her food, but before she could take another bite, Helena suddenly shrieked. “Oh my goodness, did I just hear that right?”
Evelyn frowned, confused, as she thought, ‘What is she freaking out about now?‘
Helena’s eyes were bulging. She shook her head one second and giggled like a lunatic the next. Honestly, she looked crazy.
Evelyn subtly scooted her chair a bit farther away, just in case the girl decided to have a full–on breakdown at the table.

“Evie, did my brother just say I’m going to pick up Rockie?” asked Helena.
Evelyn blinked, totally confused. She swallowed her food and asked, “Yeah, why?”
so your hers
Helena’s entire body launched into a cycle of shaking her head, nodding, squinting, and clicking her tongue, like her brain was short–circuiting.
After what felt like forever, Helena, who had been squatting on the floor laughing for no reason, suddenly jumped up. She screamed, “I’ve been waiting for this day forever.”
She darted around looking for her phone. It was literally right there on the table, but apparently, she was so hyped that she couldn’t see it.
If Evelyn weren’t already used to Helena’s dramatic mood swings, she’d honestly consider calling a psych ward.
“Where’s my phone?” Helena ran around like a headless chicken, missing the fact that the phone was practically in front of her.
Evelyn rolled her eyes and reached over, picked up the phone, and handed it over.
Helena immediately dialed a number. As soon as someone picked up, she said, “Has my brother called you yet? I’m coming over to pick up Rockie. Get his stuff ready.”

After breakfast, Helena drove Evelyn to Horizon Group. They were running late, and Evelyn had to dash the second she stepped out of the car. Just as she rushed into the elevator, she looked up and came face–to–face with Nathan.
The moment Evelyn thought of the trending topic, her brain barely caught up before her body had already backed out of the elevator.
