Chapter 13
BORA
My legs tremble as I click the door open. Lucan pulls it open and stares at me.

“Take this jacket,” he wraps a black leather jacket over my body. “Just close your eyes and hold my hand. I’ve got an umbrella, the rain won’t touch you.”
I stare at him.
“I promise,” he whispers.
My voice is so quiet as I speak, “Okay.”
“Let’s go.”
I close my eyes, bringing my hand out of the car. He grabs it.
Then, my foot. I hear the sound of water run on the floor, but I don’t feel it as Lucan closes the door and pull me to walk with him.
“Open your eyes, Deborah.” He mutters and I open them to see my mom staring at me.
She rushes to hug me as I shiver, “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry,” she whispers.
“Get a cup of hot coffee for Bora, Anna.” Luna Monica says as everyone ushers me into the house.
Ten minutes later and I sit alone, as they speak quietly at the dining table. It is still cold in the living room, even with the fire at the fireplace, below the TV. And I could still hear the pounding of the rain outside. It is going to fall for a long time.
The space beside me sinks in and a familiar scent fills my nostrils.
“Is the coffee still hot?” Lucan asks.
I don’t look at him as I reply, “It’s drinkable.”
“Are you going to tell me what that was out there? Your mom doesn’t want to talk about it no matter how much she’s pestered.”
“That’s because she understands privacy. Which you clearly don’t.” I say outrightly.
“Hmm,” he smirks, “What a way to talk to the person who literally saved you.”
My head snap towards him, “My mom would have come to get me. I never asked for your help.”
“Then why didn’t you reject it?” His brows goes high.
How could I? I am barely in my right senses right now.

“I want to go home.” I mutter, looking away.

“You can’t. Weather forecast says the rain is going to fall for a long time. Probably, till tomorrow morning. We might not even be able to go to school,” he replies.
I sniff, “Not here. My real home. Back in the human world.”
Lucan scoff’s lightly, “You are delusional.”
“What?”
“You can’t go back there, Deborah. What…do you have there?”
“Everything. I don’t have anything here. No, no…I don’t want anything here.” I say sharply.
He nods his head once, “I see,” he mutters and stands up from beside me.
“I’ll be here when you leave,” he gives me a knowing smile, “if you can.”
“Is that a threat?” I narrow my eyes.
He chuckles, “How can I threaten you with that?”
I heave a sigh as I look away.
“About the deal-”
“I’m not interested.” I cut him off.
He doesn’t stop talking, “You have till the clock ticks twelve midnight and from the look of things,” he glances at the glassed part of the house, “you’d be here till then.”
“This is just a few minutes past seven. I’ll be home,” I say as a matter of fact.
“The curfew is by 10. No one is seen outside then.” He smiles, making me frown.
I shrug off his jacket from my body and get up abruptly, “You won’t corner me into accepting your stupid deal.” I spit out the words like venom.
He shrugs nonchalantly, like he has something else up his sleeves. “Dinner is ready.”
I glance at the table and Luna Monica was already beckoning on me to come sit with them.
What are we even doing here anyways?
It’s almost like Mom and the Luna are friends.
I walk past Lucan and walk towards them, grabbing a seat beside my mom.
Lucan sits opposite me, eyes on me.

Chapter 13
I look away as my mom starts talking, “Thank you, Lucan for that.”
“It’s okay.” Lucan says with a smile.

“Now that we know that Bora is hydrophobic, you would have a lot of work, Lucan. You need to make sure she gets away from anything that includes water.” Luna Monica says.
“It’s fine,” I interjected, “It’s not that serious. I can handle it myself.”
“It’s not fine. This is serious.” Alpha Dryus, “I understand you guys don’t want to tell us the cause of this, but at least, we should be able to keep you safe from further harms. We don’t know when next the rain would fall or if there would be a pool somewhere, so stick to Lucan all the time. He would be able to help.”
Lucan gave a smile, “It’s my pleasure. I’ll keep her safe.”
How can he keep me safe from danger when he is danger himself?
“But seriously, I don’t need-”
“Deborah, listen to the adults.” Lucan says with bright eyes, “They are wise.”
He knows what he is doing. He knows it!
My fingers loosened on the fork as I dropp it and turn to grab the glass of juice. Lucan pulls it away from my hand and turns water into a glass from the jug.
“Yiu shouldn’t take surgary things right now, else your stomach would hurt.” He pushes the glass of water towards me with his index finger.
My mom’s lips parts as she stares at both of us.
Luna Monica looks at us, eyes questioning, “What’s going on?”
“She can’t exactly take sweet things-”
“I’m trying to stay away from sugar for some time,” I cut Lucan off and grab the glass, emptying it at one go.
Lucan grin widely and I want to wipe that out of his lips with a punch. If I can just hit him right now…..
Dinner passes by in a blur as the adults start speaking about business and pack matters. And just like Lucan said, the rain didn’t stop. It was already few minutes to ten and it was still raining.
It’s been almost three hours.
“Mom, we can drive in the rain-”
“Honey, I can’t risk it, not with you. Let the rain stop first.” My mom cuts me off.
“Or you can spend the night here.” Luna Monica interjected.
This is what I didn’t want.

“Bora can get her uniform in the morning and go to school with Logan. I mean, it’s getting late and the curfew would –”
My mom turns, “Curfew?”
Certainly, she didn’t know.
I didn’t think there’d be a curfew either.
“Oh, yes. It’s just for a week. We are hearing rumours of rogues in the surrounding forests. We have to keep Moonthorne safe.”
Just for a week.
Why did it have to fall now? Of all times where I could he in my house?
Mum looks at me and I know it’s over. “Alright, we would stay the night.”
