What sort of basic answer is that? What does he mean by he was trying to marry her because he wants to. Going against the wishes of his people because of a mere desire, that isn’t how a real leader should behave. 

“So you are not going to let me see my family,” she counted. “You are going to marry me anyways even though your people are against it.” 

“There may be… other ways to resolve this,” he muttered, pressing his fingers to his temple. “What is it you 

want, then?” 

She paused, carefully measuring her next words. “If I cannot see my kin, then grant me access to the imperial library.” 

He lifted his gaze, mildly surprised. “The library?” 

That had been her second plan, if he didn’t allow her to meet her family, then she would have to use the other method to try to escape. 

Looking through maps from the library to understand the empire probably and to look for escape routes. That was the best plan so far, and then she would try to look for help, there must be someone somewhere who has a grudge on the dragon emperor, someone who will be willing to help rescue her family. 

But how? By waging war on the dragon empire. 

Is there anyone who was strong enough to do that? She shook her head slightly, there was a million and four things going through her mind. And she didn’t want it to be suspicious to the emperor 

“I just need to get some fresh air sometimes, and I like reading. Instead of being in my room with nothing to do.” 

“If you truly lack something to occupy your time,” he said slowly, his fingers trailing along the stem of his chalice, “then come to me. We might play chess. Mahjong. Whatever game suits your taste.” 

He had done nothing but drank through the whole lunch, and she on the other hand hadn’t touched her food as well. 

The thought of coming to his room to play games with him seemed to irk her, she shook her head, resting her back against the wooden chair. 

“Are you telling me I won’t be allowed to leave my chambers to the library at least?” Betrayal was evident in her voice, and she needed this to work, or else she would be stuck in this marriage she had suddenly agreed to. “I won’t be allowed to even live a little?” 

“Fine. If that is what you are willing to trade,” He muttered as his clothes rustle as he stood up. “I will assign personal guards to walk you everywhere you go 

It would be difficult but she could make that work, she sucked in a deep breath and shook her head. 

“Fine.” She muttered.

“Now that we are done talking then you can eat your food.” Azmaveth muttered with a small frown on his face, for some reason he could read her thoughts, and then it intrigued him. Wondering what sort of book she would love to read. 

“Are you alright?” Darkorta asked curiously as soon as the lady exited the imperial dining hall, she let out a shaky breath. The emperor’s aura was just too much to bear, it took everything she had in her to endure it. 

“I… I am fine,” she murmured, though her knees buckled as her body threatened to betray her. But before she could fall, the maid grabbed her, her hands were not soft nor tender. They were firm and her grip was strong. 

“My lady!” Darkorta seemed shocked as she helped her lady up using one side of her body to support her, getting to her room. 

“His Majesty has granted me access to the Imperial Library,” she announced with mock grandeur, lifting her chin slightly. 

Darkorta’s eyes widened like gold coins. “Truly?” 

“What about the garden?” She asked her eyes shining like gold coins. “I would kill to see the emperor’s private garden.” 

“Wait, didn’t you say no one is allowed to go there?” Natalia wondered out loud, if the emperor wouldn’t allow anyone to see it, then why did the maid think the emperor would do otherwise? “Yes, I did say that-” she ran over it excitedly again. “But then he brought some of the flowers for you. Nothing ever leaves that garden, so I am willing to gamble the thought that the emperor might just allow you in the garden.” 

Natalia paused for a while, and then shook her head, because she doesn’t think she has that much influence over the emperor, because if she did then he would have no issue with allowing her see her family for a short period of time. 

That greedy man. 

“Anyways, I need to go to the library.” She muttered as she pried the jewels hanging from her hair, she quickly stripped herself from the fancy attire she wore to see the emperor. She didn’t get why she was told to dress in such flamboyant attire to see the emperor. 

“Help me!” She veered in the direction of the maid, and then the maid rushed quickly towards her, she had been completely lost and forgotten, thinking about the emperor’s private garden. 

“Pardon me, your grace.” She muttered as she helped Natalia stripped. “But I think it’s a little late to go to the library.” 

Natalia’s eyes widened quickly, betrayal evident, 

“If you think I can’t go to the library then suggest what you think I can do now that I am bored out of my mind.” She answered sarcastically, and Darkorta blinked slightly, and then an idea came to her. 

“Let’s play mahjong,” she answered and a big smile cracked her smooth face, “I may not look it but I am one of the best players in my tribe. I used to beat all those grumpy old men in the tavern.” 

“No,” she answered in defense, “I don’t even know what mahjong is, I prefer to read.”

“My lady, I promise we can go to the library tomorrow, because going there right now is dangerous.” She explained, worry evident in the lines on her forehead. “I can’t explain much right now, because I am not in any position to tell you these things but I want you to trust me, my lady.” 

Natalia froze for a bit, noticing the sincerity in the maid’s eyes, she gave up, besides it would be suspicious if she insisted on going tonight. 

“Alright, fine,” She paused for a while and then it came to her. “That mahjong of a game, teach me.” 

Maybe playing with the emperor wouldn’t be as bad as she thinks.
