Chapter 11
/Kaelen-/
I had grown overly suspicious of the masked beta ever since I saw him choking Selene.
I knew they were both hiding something, but I couldn’t place my hands on what it was yet.
The room was quiet after they left.

I walked to the door and looked around to be sure no one was eavesdropping before shutting the door and returning to Thorne.
“You mind telling me who she is?”
Though my voice was low, the hint of disapproval was evident.
“Who?”
“Oh come on, stop faking it. You know who I’m talking about. The pretty lady that introduced herself as your fiancée.”
“Oh, Elara. She’s already introduced herself; what else do you want to hear?” Thorne said, sounding completely nonchalant.
“You are joking, right? Our mate is right there, hum…“.
“She is not my mate!” Thorne groaned.
“It’s okay if you want her as yours, but me? It’s a no–no. Besides, I think the moon goddess should have given us separate mates; we don’t have to share that ugly being.”
‘She’s ours; you need to claim her, my wolf growled.
‘Can’t you see that Thorne is being hesitant?‘ I replied using our mind link.
“Thorne, for crying out loud, we both felt that pull, we both perceived the scent. Now you suddenly have another woman? You will bring doom to us.”
My jaw was clenched, so were my fists.
“I’m done with this conversation, but if you insist, then I think you should leave my chambers. The mate bond should do its worst, but I won’t spoil my name by having a mate like that; she’s weaker than an omega!”
“You should say that to the moon goddess, but you can’t have someone else when she’s still alive.” I threw my fist in the air in a bid to explain myself.
Thorne hissed. “Mark her then, since you are so desperate that you will settle for someone like that, but bear in mind that after her four weeks elapse, she will definitely die, except you want to fight both I and the
throne.”

I bit my lower lip. There was absolutely no need to talk about this with Thorne anymore; his mind was made
- up.
“How did you meet Elara?” I changed the topic of discussion.
“The beta bought her for me.”
“You are ridiculous,” I scoffed.
Funny! Weird too!
“Use the door if….”
“If what, huh?” I interrupted him quickly. “Of course, that’s what I have to say: that you bought a random person because of your damn reputation?”
“I won’t tolerate such words from you, Kaelen. I…”
I didn’t let him finish; I asked the next question immediately.
“How did you know where that sword was? How did you know the direction to face? And how were you able to walk back to your chambers after the fight without support? I demand the truth!”
Thorne exhaled deeply.
“I totally have no idea. My wound even healed on its own; it has never happened before.”
“Is there something I should know?” I muttered.
I drew closer and reduced my voice. I didn’t trust the walls of his chamber.
Thorne exhaled sharply.
“Immediately she came in, my whole sense heightened. I began to feel everything as though it was happening on my skin.”
“She? You mean Selene?”
Of course I knew he meant Selene; I only wanted him to admit it. Maybe, who knows, he might change his mind.
“Yeah,” he muttered reluctantly.
I felt cold shivers run down my spine.
“It’s the mate bond. I know you felt it, stop…”
“Argh!” I and Thorne screamed in unison, clutching our chests as though our hearts were about to fall out.
“Selene“, A soft gasp escaped my mouth.

Chapter 11
Something was wrong, and I needed to find her immediately.

I rushed out immediately, running as though my life depended on it, and followed the scent and pull that led me straight to her.
It stopped when I got to the end of the courtyard, and I saw Selene asleep on the cold floor.
I walked slowly towards her.
Why had I felt that pull as though something was wrong with her when she was sleeping peacefully?
Her small body frame coiled as though she was freezing.
What was she doing outside?
Running from her bullies?
I was still processing my thought when she began to shake and jumped up in fear.
“Selene“, I whispered.
“Kaelen“, she cried and hugged me tightly.
Her whole body was trembling.
She must have had a very terrible dream.
And that means I could also connect to her even when she is fully asleep.
“I’m here now, it’s okay.”
I said the words repeatedly and kept patting her back.
She cried for minutes, but I didn’t let go.
When it seemed as though she had calmed down, I offered to carry her to her room, but she blatantly refused.
“I can go by myself. It was just a bad dream,” she protested,
“Okay,” I answered and went ahead to carry her like a bride to her room.
The side talks from the maids were disgusting, but that wasn’t what I had come for.
I lay Selene on her bed.
“Learn to stand up for yourself; no one would do that for you. Stop passing out in random places like that. What if I wasn’t around?”
She didn’t say a word, obviously still shaken.

“Good night,” I whispered and made to leave, but she quickly held me back.
“Please stay with me for the night, I need you.”

At that moment, I noticed how beautiful her eyes were. I knew that beneath that outward look of hers, was a girl, beautifully made. We just didn’t know how to bring her out of the curse.
She looked up at me with so much innocence and plea in her eyes that I had no choice but to succumb to her wish.
“I will never leave you. It’s okay.”
“Promise?” She said with her clouded
eyes.
I don’t know what came over me, but instead of replying, I took possession of her lips.
The kiss was hungry and desperate.
‘Mark her! Make her ours,‘ Abbey, my wolf, kept pacing in my head.
‘Shut up; can’t you see what I’m doing?‘ I warned.
Selene didn’t resist. It was as though this was all she wanted.
When she subconsciously let out a moan, I knew I was doing the right thing.
