Chapter 18
/-Selene-/
My body trembled in fear.
“Finn, please….” My voice broke as I reached for him.
“Don’t do this, no, no, no.”

“What happened here?” One of the soldiers asked as his eyes scanned the room and the countless bodies that lay lifeless on the ground.
A rogue pointed me. “She killed them!”
“I was defending myself!” I cried. “They were going to kill me if I didn’t do anything. Him too,” I pointed at Finn’s body. “He was trying to protect me, but they wanted him dead too.”
The guard stepped forward towards me cautiously.
“You, did you shift?”
“They all shifted,” I muttered.
“No,” he shook his head.
“Transfer him to another cell. It’s dangerous here.”
The other guard that walked in began dragging Finn away from the room.
“Where are you taking him?” I screamed.
“Let him go, you damned being!”
He pushed me roughly and successfully dragged Finn away.
I cried, screamed, and kicked, but they didn’t turn to look at me even for a minute.
Suddenly one of them rushed back and dragged me out.
I didn’t shout; I willingly followed, knowing he would take me to Finn.
“Take care of him before he dies,” one of them muttered and shut the door.
They had kept us in a separate room now,
I stared at Finn, his chest rose slowly and fell slowly too.
He was deeply wounded; even the blood had turned grey.

Chapter 18
Tears spilt from my eyes and hit his face.
“You shouldn’t have protected me,” I cried.
“I don’t deserve this; I don’t deserve you.”
“Selene“, I heard him mutter.

“Finn. Stay with me.” I widened my eyes in both horror and relief, but the bad part was that I didn’t know what to do.
“Here,” he pointed to his ribs gently. “Touch it, help me.”
“But I can’t…..
“Please,” he interrupted.
“I’m dying.”
I inhaled deeply and touched his ribs, and something strange started happening to me.
My breathing grew erratic, and my hands began to vibrate.
What’s wrong with me? I thought to myself.
I tried to move my hand from Finn’s ribs, but it felt like another power held my hand down.
My hand remained glued to his ribs till I watched him heal.
Completely!
My jaw dropped.
How was I able to do this without a wolf?
“How did…how…wait, you knew I could do that?” I said to Finn.
He smiled.
“My sister is just like you. I call her special; I don’t call her cursed.”
“Where is she now?” I asked.
“She’s missing. She’s been missing for years.”
“I’m sorry,” I muttered and took his hand in mine.
“You will find her one day, I promise.”
He nodded and sat up.

Chapter 18
“You are bleeding. You used lots of energy.”
I touched my nose; true to his words, I was bleeding.

“I don’t know who I am any more. One minute I don’t have a wolf; the next I do. It’s just so complicated.”
He exhaled sharply.
“Well, I think I know you more than you know yourself, and I must say you are capable of what no one here in this pack is capable of.” He bowed his head.
“If my sister were here, she…” His voice broke.
I leaned in. “Hey, it’s fine.”
He stared at me for some seconds and then nodded.
“You remind me of her a lot. I cried with her every night that she begged the goddess to help her. But after the gods helped her and she became just as she wanted, she disappeared. But I find solace seeing someone like her.”
“That explains why you fought for me over there?” I muttered.
He nodded.
“I couldn’t sit and let something happen to you. I felt it was like allowing her to slip through my fingers the second time.”
“Come,” I muttered and opened my arms, engulfing him in my embrace.
While in that position, my mind drifted to all that had happened in the past few hours.
Thorne’s bleeding eyes had stopped, my wound had healed, I had shifted, and I had healed an almost dead man, all in hours.
Strange.
When we finally broke free, Finn had this wide smile on his face.
It was quite contagious because I smiled too.
“What pack are you from?” I whispered.
He cleared his throat, then tried clearing it again and again, until I knew he needed water.
I rushed to the door and began screaming.
“Water, water!”
Of course no one would answer me, so I went back to him and started rubbing his chest.
Chapter 18
“We need to get out of this place.”
“When the time is ripe,” he answered. He had suddenly stopped coughing.
It felt suspicious to me, but I didn’t bother asking again.
We spent the rest of the day talking about every random thing.
We laughed so hard that for a second I forgot all my pain.
When he asked me about Thorne and Kaelen, I ignored him.
The next day went smoothly, and so did the day after it.

It was just both of us in another room; to me, it was freedom from the harsh world I lived in in the royal house, and to him, it was freedom from the other rogue wolves.
Hours turned into days and soon I and Finn had turned best friends. I had even forgotten about Kaelen, until one damned evening.
The beta, the masked beta, came to the prison.
Finn stood up. Suddenly, when the metal door opened, it was him.
I didn’t stand.
I hated him so much to give him such reverence.
“The Alpha demands your presence,” he muttered.
I shook my head.
Why had Thorne sent him instead? He could have easily sent one of his men. Why the beta? Was it that important?
I eyed him and walked past him, praying that he wouldn’t spoil Finn’s heart against me.
At the prison entrance, the guards blocked me.
“The Alpha asked for me, I am not escaping,” I explained.
One of the guards rushed out and returned a few seconds later, saying the Alpha never demanded my
presence.
Furious, I turned to go back hoping to confront the beta but met him coming out.
“What game are you playing now?” I whispered.
He smirked, shook his head and walked away.
