“How many days is it Thorne??” Kaelen roared. “How many more days? Do you want me to disrespect you and order her release myself?”
“I will have you killed then!” I muttered.
“You really do not have a conscience, do you? You kept her with rogue wolves even after she helped you with your eyes. Isn’t that heartless of you?” Kaelen spoke. He was vibrating, I needed no one to tell me he was angered to the core.
“She might be dead,” Elara whispered.
“You’ve lost your mind!” Kaelen growled.
“Don’t say any other word unless you are spoken to.”
“Thorne,” Kaelen tried sounding polite. “Release Selene; she’s not a threat. If you wouldn’t accept her as your mate, fine, but let her go.”
I touched my eyes.
“Leave, we should talk about this some other time.”
Kaelen glared at me for seconds before turning to leave, but just then a soft knock on the door stopped him.
“Come in.” I muttered.
A guard walked in and bowed slightly.
“The priestess is here.”
My heart stopped functioning for a second.
“The priestess? Why?”
She didn’t inform any of us before coming.
“Let her in,” I whispered, “Kaelen, stay back. Elara, you should leave.”
Kaelen said nothing, but I knew he was already seated.
Moments later, the door opened again, and the priestess walked in.
I could see faintly to be able to notice the long dark cloak she wore.
I stood up immediately in reverence, so did Thorne, but she didn’t acknowledge our greetings. She went straight to the agenda that had brought her.

There was silence.
“What mate?” I said flatly.
“Selene?”
In response she came close and touched my eyes.
“Who did this?” She muttered.
“The same Selene,” Kaelen answered.
The priestess gasped.
“Mark my words, doom is around the corner.”
I smirked. Then burst out laughing.

“This has to be the funniest thing I’ve heard today. You expect me to take that thing to the council as my Luna? I won’t do it. I don’t care what doom will befall us, but I will never tie myself to someone like her.”
Kaelen said nothing, but I could tell how furious he was with how heavily he breathed.
The priestess continued.
“She is more powerful than you think, but without the mark, her strength will collapse, and when she falls, you will fall, and so will the pack. You speak with so much pride, Thorne, and that will be your downfall!”
That was all she said and walked away before I had the choice to speak another word.
Kaelen stood up. “I will give you an extra two days, after which I will go to the prison myself and bring Selene
out.”
Kaelen stormed out, leaving me confused.
Not long after he had left, someone else walked in.
“It’s Elara,” she whispered.
I grunted a response and sank into my chair.
“Call the guards,” I muttered. “Let them bring Selene.”
“There is absolutely no need for that,” Elara muttered and sat on my lap.
“I wished you could see; I had prepared something different for you, but I can also make you feel it.”
“What could it be?”

I adjusted on the chair while she fiddled with something I didn’t know.
“Here,” she muttered and placed my hand on something soft.

I stood up with my bleeding eyes and tried to find my way through the crowd, but the more I walked, the more other things entered the eyes, until I fell to the ground completely exhausted.

It was a trance, a terrible one; it felt so real, yet I couldn’t remember anything related to it.
Worse still, something strange was happening to my eyes, but Selene was no longer in the room.

I touched my eyes; they were bleeding already.

He said nothing in response.
