Selene flinched at my last statement, but I meant it.
I stormed out, shutting the door behind me as I returned to Thorne’s chamber.
I had a thousand questions running through my head.
Selene, for sure, was hiding something. She was lying to protect someone, no one but Finn.
I didn’t knock.
I just pushed open Thorne’s door and was surprised at the sight I met.

Thorne sat tensely, Elara kept adjusting her blouse as though she had been caught stealing, while the beta stood as though he was both confused and angry.
“What’s going on here?” I asked, narrowing my gaze.
None of them said a word.
I exhaled sharply and muttered, “You both can leave.”
Elara opened her mouth in protest as though I didn’t have the final say, but the look I gave her made her scurry away. The beta followed calmly, like a man whose pride had been trampled upon.
When the door shut behind him, I twisted the lock, leaned on the door and stared hard at Thorne.
“Hope it’s not what I’m thinking?”
“What?” Thorne arched an eyebrow.
“Oh, come off it! What just happened here?” I growled.
“What did you see?” Thorne fired back
“You will be shameless if you really slept with her,” I spat.
There was silence for some seconds, then Thorne blurted.
“Even if I wanted to, the mate bond won’t let me. I almost slept with her moments ago, but I stopped midway and pushed her away. What I don’t understand is why the Beta rushed in panicking.”
I inhaled deeply.
“We need to mate and mark Selene.”
“I’m not ready for that conversation,” Thorne grunted and rolled his eyes.

“You never are.” I left my position. I stood and walked closer to him.

“When did you regain your sight? How long have you been hiding it? And why did you choose to keep me in the dark too?”
Thorne didn’t flinch, though his hand curled slightly.
“My sight? If I’ve regained it…”
“Oh, cut the crap!” I was getting angry.
“Before we both attacked Finn, you served yourself a cup of water, so I suggest you stop lying to yourself!”
For a long while, Thorne said nothing.
Then with a long exhale, he spoke.
“It’s been days. Since the day Selene was called to stop the bleeding.”
I gasped.
“And you didn’t deem me worthy to say a word?”
“Kaelen, I wasn’t really sure of it and…”
“You were not really sure of it? Or you were so ashamed to be cured by the one you despise the most?”
“It doesn’t change anything, does it?” Thorne answered.
“She has a gift!” I snarled. “She is more than fit to be a Luna. Who else in this whole pack and beyond can cure blindness? Not to talk of you, who was born blind?”
I watched Thorne, waiting for him to say one more word so I could fix him in place. Luckily for him, he didn’t. He just ran his hand through his hair in frustration.
A soft knock on the door interrupted our conversation.
I opened the door and found the kitchen head standing there like she was about to blow my mind with the news she had.
She bowed slightly, and I stepped out of the way to allow her to come in.
“Forgive me, Alpha,” she began. “You weren’t in your chamber, so I figured you would be here. The girl, Selene, approached me earlier. She gave me this ointment and a note and asked me to deliver it to the prisoner, Finn. It feels weird because this ointment is from the royal house, and it is expensive…”
I didn’t allow her to finish; I stormed out of the room, barely hearing Thorne call after me.
I barged into my chamber, and Selene, who stood by the window, flinched.
“I warned you, didn’t I?”

“You lied about the beta because you wanted an ointment delivered to that prisoner, didn’t you? And a note too! Well, I did warn you; I will kill him.”
I turned to leave, but Selene was already on her knees clutching my legs and refusing to let me walk.
“Please, he was going to die if nothing was done; he was deeply wounded, and I care for him just as I would care for any living creature,” she pleaded with tears brimming in her eyes.
“You are mine!” I roared, not even trying to hide the pain behind my voice.
“Why can’t you understand that? You are not allowed to care so much for any other person; he shouldn’t matter to you. Don’t you get it?”
Her sobs deepened.
“No, he doesn’t matter, not like that.”
“Then why?” My voice broke. “Why did you go that far, calling yourself a whore in front of all those people?”
“Because he needed help urgently. He was going to die if I didn’t do something and…..”
“That’s enough!” I interrupted her.
“Stand,” I ordered.
She hesitated for some seconds before standing.
“Choose one,” I muttered. “Punish you or punish him?
She stared at me with her eyes widened in confusion, and then she began stuttering.
“Yo….You….can…”
“Speak properly!”
She flinched.
“Punish me instead. He is wounded already. Don’t even know if he is still alive.”
Those words made me more jealous than I had ever been in my life.
“You are still ready to risk it for him? Alright then.”
In one swift motion, I cupped her face and crashed my lips on hers.
She stood frozen, probably wondering what sort of punishment this was.
I pulled her closer, making sure my mouth devoured hers and my tongue explored every part that was already open.
