Finn stood still with his head bent low as though he was scared of looking any of them in the
face.
A warrior walked to him and snatched the mace from his hands. He walked to the eldest
council member and handed it over.
I watched as the elder entered the inner chamber and returned without the mace.
Few elders murmured amongst themselves while others pointed at me as though I were a wild, terrible creature that had been finally caught.
“Drag them both to the centre!” One of the elders shouted.
Before I could move, strong scaly hands had grabbed me. I was dragged beside Finn, with our backs straight.
My heart and every other organ responsible for pumping blood in my body thudded so loudly, I feared everyone could hear it.
“Start talking!” One of the warriors shouted at Finn.
Finn stood like a non–living thing. He sealed his lips, kept his eyes forward like a statue sculpted in arrogance.
From the corner of my eye, I watched Elara sneak into the room.
This was the trouble she was speaking about.
She had a lollipop!
Of all times? Elara chose to come into the council meeting with a lollipop!
“You were caught with the golden mace,” The same warrior roared slapping him hard across the face.
“Speak now!”
I flinched as though I was the one hit, but Finn didn’t make a sound still. The slap echoed in the room but Finn only turned his face slightly, blood dripping from his lip.
“Hit him again!” The other guard commanded. “Let’s see how long he can keep his mouth shut and play hero.”

Chapter 32
The second blow landed on his stomach, harsher than the first.
He fell and landed on his knees, breathing heavily.
I could no longer bear it.

“Stop,” I cried out. “Finn just say something, please. Why are you letting them think I did it?”
No response.
He didn’t even look at me.
He just knelt in that position, blood dripping from his mouth and nose.
Thorne exhaled sharply, clearly losing patience, then the beta stepped forward.
He held out his phone.
“Alpha Thorne,” he said softly and turned the phone to Thorne.
For a moment, Thorne almost let loose his guard, he tilted his head but caught himself right on time.
“What is it?” He asked the beta.
“Oh forgive me,” the beta muttered. “I honestly forgot your eyes……” he let the statement hang and moved to Kaelen.
“I believe this might provide clarity.”
The moment Kaelen saw the Image, his entire face changed.
The progression was insane.
First, his pupils darkened, then he furrowed his brow before he folded his fists.
“Is that……?” He whispered pointing to the phone.
The beta nodded. “Yes, it is. Selene dressed in your clothes in the prison with him earlier today.”
Murmur swept through the hall.
I couldn’t breathe.
What! How did that happen?

Chapter 32
I never knew somebody saw me.
Kaelen turned to me, trust me, no one deserved to see his face at that point.
It was a mask of disbelief, anger, betrayal and of course, rage.

“You dared lie to me, huh? You said you were praying. I’m speaking to you! The prison is a prayer house?”
“Who knows if she also spread her legs there,” Elara chipped.
“Kaelen….” I began speaking, but my throat was dry and my brain refused to form any words.
But Kaelen didn’t wait for my explanation. He turned to Finn and grabbed him by the collar, then sent one thunderous blow to his face.
Finn fell down and curled in pain.
It was the first thing he had reacted to since he was brought in.
“You worthless rogue!” Kaelen growled. “I warned you. I spared you the first time, but I see you are adamant on taking her down with you.”
I wanted to speak, to tell them it wasn’t Finn’s idea that I came to the prison, but with the rage I could see on Kaelen’s face, I would rather not say a word.
“If you don’t tell us how the mace got to your hand, I swear, I will rip your heart, and make you watch it stop beating!”
Finn raised his head slowly.
“Whatever you do, don’t hurt her.”
“No,” I cried.
All he needed to do was tell them how he got the mace, and he should stop protecting me.
Kaelen, furious at his answer, lunged at him again, but the Beta stopped him right on time.
“There is no need to hit him over and over again; he has confessed already.”
“When?” Thorne and Kaelen asked in unison.
“He said it earlier when I summoned him that the deformed girl had given it to him.”
“It’s a lie!” I shouted.

The Beta pressed play and Finn’s voice echoed into the hall.
“She gave it to me. I think she bears a grudge against the blind one.”
A gasp escaped my throat.
“It’s not true! It’s a lie, Finn please say the truth.”
Kaelen, who stood between me and the world, now turned away from me.

“Don’t believe that, it’s not true, the beta isn’t a friend, he wants me killed by all means possible.” I turned to Finn.
“Why aren’t you saying anything? Please say something!”
Ivy growled low inside me
She could feel my pain
‘He is hiding something worse!‘
“But I trusted you!” I screamed, tears burning in my eyes.
“I risked everything to see you and you join them to frame me? I didn’t hurt Why are you letting them condemn me?”
Finally, he raised his head.
He turned to the beta. “Why are you doing this?”
I got confused. How was this connected to the beta?
“Shut up!” The Beta roared.
“No,” Thorne countered.
“Let him speak.”

any way.
“He only says…..” the beta tried to shut him up, but Thorne slammed his hand on the table.
“I said, let him speak!”
The beta hissed and turned to walk out but Kaelen blocked his path.
“Seems someone is hiding something.”
