The moment I heard Kaelen’s voice, I pulled back fast.
Damn it!
The idiot was everywhere.

I shoved the needle back into my pocket and stepped a few inches away from Finn, trying as hard as I could to mask the fury boiling in my blood.
Finn pointed towards the door, whispering.
“Leave, he is in the next room.”
I bit my lower lip.
A lot confused me.
Even if the poison didn’t kill Finn, he was supposed to be unconscious, not fully awake and whispering orders.
“Go,” Finn whispered again.
I folded my fists and walked
fists and walked away into the cold night without a word, and worse still, he
walked after me, limping!
“How did you survive it?” I asked the moment we stood in a hidden place.
“It’s the girl,” Finn answered.
“I don’t know how, but she dragged it out to the surface and sucked the poison away. What were you thinking trying to kill me?” Finn asked.
My Jaw dropped.
It only meant one thing.
“The girl herself is in danger huh?”
Finn nodded.
“I guess so.”

I looked around and when I was sure no one was looking, sent a cold punch into Finn’s stomach
“You fool! What was the meaning of that act back there? Do you know how reckless that was? Or have you started harbouring crazy feelings about the cursed girl?”
Finn clutched his stomach and groaned in pain.
“What was really reckless was the fact that you were trying to kill me in the middle of the meeting, I would have died!”
“That was the only way to shut your stupid mouth,” I fired.
“What would you have done after you had boldly painted me a liar?”
Finn smiled weakly.
That type of smile he does that always makes me want to rip his face open.
“You gave me this job, allow me to handle it. That was the only way to gain her trust, see how she was willing to die on my behalf by sucking poison out of my neck, what does that mean? We are closer than you think, so long as one of the twins is close to her, then we are winning.”
Somehow he was right, though I wasn’t fully convinced.
I stared at him for seconds, then muttered, “The next time you double–cross me, I wouldn’t hesitate to end your miserable life, and this time, I wouldn’t give you the chance to be dramatic about it.”
Finn bowed in response.
I stepped closer and grabbed his collar. “They will still ask you who it was. Tell them you’ve lost part of your memory, and you can’t remember who it was. The poison had dealt with you before it was removed, you hear that?” I roughly let go of his collar.
“Use your amnesia wisely, or else you won’t see the light of a new day just like
your sister.”
Finn gave me those deadly stares at the mention of his sister, but said nothing in response.
I turned to leave but froze when I saw Thorne walking into the healer’s building alone!
I stood still staring.
Was he truly blind?
Was the walking stick really helping him? Or was it all a facade?

“Go in,” I ordered Finn and reached for the knife beneath my robe.

“What the fuck are you doing?” Finn whispered instead of going back in as I ordered.
I ignored him and walked towards Thorne.
This was the only chance I had to find out if he was truly blind.
Thorne walked calmly, hitting his walking stick on the ground occasionally.
I increased my speed, walked to his front, then waved the tip of the blade an inch from his face, but he didn’t flinch, nor did he bat an eyelid.
He kept walking calmly as though I were not even there.
“Perfect,” I whispered after he had walked past me.
“He was still very much blind.”
Relief flooded me as I walked back to the road that led to
my
chamber.
A figure stood on the road.
It was a maid.
The new maid.
She stood at the far end of the corridor staring daggers at me.
I continued walking, hoping that she would’turn away before I got there, but I was wrong. She stood still staring as though she had seen everything that had happened.
“Get out of my way,” I snarled.
She didn’t move; instead, her lips curled into a welcoming smile,
“I don’t have time for this drama, get the fuck away from my way or I will push you away,” I warned.
“Why?” She finally spoke.
“You haven’t come home for quite some time. Mom asked me to take a job here so that I can always check up on you. What happened? Why are you suddenly wearing masks?”
My eyes widened in horror.
She was the sister of the real Beta.

Chapter 37
The one I had killed and taken his place.
I opened my mouth to speak, but couldn’t form a word.
“I brought you food, I kept it at your door,” she said again.
Panic rose to my chest.
This was a problem.
I summoned my wolf, Brad, immediately.
‘Do I kill her? Or is there any way she can be useful?‘
Brad didn’t respond.
He had a habit of going silent on me when I needed him the most.
“Oh, food?” I said with my lower lip quivering.
“Thank you.”

She nodded in excitement but the next words that came out of her mouth sent cold shivers
running down my spine.
“Can I spend the night in your room, big bro? The maids are hostile towards me. Don’t worry, I came with enough food for both of us.”
My hand began shaking.
“No you can’t,” I muttered.
“Why?” She asked furrowing her eyebrows.
“I have a visitor, a woman, and we might get intimate tonight.”
“Oh,” she muttered.
Then like a witch, she switched her mood.
“What’s my name?”
“Huh?” My jaw dropped.
“Yeah, did you forget? Just the same way you forgot to borrow his accent after killing him.”
