Ivy lunged forward at the wolf as though she had been doing this all her life. Her claw went directly to the neck of the second wolf, ripping skin off her body.
The monster growled in pain as its blood sprayed on its fur and on the ground.
Ivy moved again. My body was driven by instincts, I didn’t spare one second to think, I just fought with everything I had, knowing fully well, that it was either they kill me or I kill them.
The first wolf seeing that I was gaining on the second, tried to circle behind me, but it seemed as though Ivy had eyes behind her head.
She turned just in time and slammed her shoulders into its ribs.
“Argh!” It let out a deafening growl and staggered backwards.
I couldn’t give it the luxury to recover, I went after it immediately and dipped my claw into his side, did it again and again until blood filled my claws.
I heard the other one gaining behind me and stood up quickly to face it.
The wounded Wolf howled in agony, then backed away, bleeding and limping, till it disappeared into the woods, leaving I and the second wolf to ourselves.
It was furious seeing how I had hurt his brother or friend.
It snarled and charged me with so much force that we both ended up tumbling on the muddy floor.
It was quick enough to dig its claw somewhere close to my neck.
‘Ivy!‘ I screamed.
Pain.
Deep pains seared through my side as it dug deeper into my skin.
I couldn’t move, I lay there feeling the warmth of my blood, and when I felt life draining slowly away from me, I moved my hind leg, shook violently and flipped it off me.
I was furious now, and that was all the motivation I needed.
I pounced on it and sank my teeth into its shoulder, wishing I could rip out its heart at once.
The wolf cried in pain and tried to push me off it, but I used every strength I could muster to pin it down.
I was ready to kill it and end whoever it was.

But just as I raised my claw to dig into his heart, a snarl caught my attention.
1 froze mid–air and turned slowly in the direction from which I had heard the sound.
It was the first wolf.
It had returned
But it wasn’t alone.
He came with an extra five wolves whose glowing eyes were fixed on me.
They were bloodthirsty.
I released the wolf beneath me and stood tall.
Maybe it was time to time, but not alone.
That was my resolution.
The wolves formed a deadly circle around me.
Honestly, I was tired.
Ivy was tired.
We needed help at that point.

As though the goddess heard my prayer, the moment they charged towards me in unison, the first wolf collapsed before reaching me.
It was an arrow.
A poisoned arrow maybe.
Because the wolf it caught foamed at the mouth before it stopped breathing, and whoever was firing, was doing a great job. He or she didn’t miss.
Then another wolf fell and another till there were only three wolves left.
The remaining wolves turned their direction to where the arrow was coming from allowing me some seconds to breathe.
My next intention was to run, but I had no more strength left in me.
I staggered backwards panting, then I felt it again.
There was a wolf behind me.
‘Not again,‘ I cried.

I turned quickly and stood ready to lunge at the wolf, but it wasn’t against me.

It stood beside me and faced the remaining wolves who had returned their attention to me because the arrow was no longer flying.
We communicated without saying a word, fighting side by side.
But I was losing blood
I was losing my life.
My skin was changing back slowly.
Again, the arrows began to rain, until the last wolf fell.
The forest, or wherever we were, became silent.
I felt Ivy retreat and my fur vanished.
As quickly as I changed the first time, I was back to my human form.
The wolf had shifted too.
It was a man.
Tall, handsome, with emerald green eyes, and black shiny hair.
But his beard was rough, and he looked like someone who had spent his whole life in the woods.
“Here,” he handed me a material he picked from somewhere I didn’t see.
“Thank you,” I muttered and wrapped it around my naked body.
“What are you doing out here all alone by this time of the day?”
Surprisingly his voice was soothing.
I opened my mouth to speak, but noticed I was bleeding heavily on my neck.
I raised my hand gently to touch it, and only then did he notice it.
“You are deeply wounded,” he gasped, “Stand still, and hold your breath,” he muttered and walked closer to
- me.
I did as he instructed but I was losing life.
It felt worse than the poison, I could tell that if nothing was done in minutes, then that would be the end of
- me.
He pressed his hand on my neck where the blood pumped from and chanted words I felt I knew.

“That was easy peasy,” she laughed, but the moment she understood what was going on, her mood changed instantly.
“Is it poison? Did the arrows get her?” She asked the man.
He shook his head.
“It’s not poison. One of them must have dipped their claw into her neck.”
She dropped her bow and bag of arrows and stepped closer.
“Why is she out alone by this time?”
The man said nothing; instead, he increased pressure on the wounded part.
I concluded she was the person firing those shots.
I took a second to appreciate how pretty she was before returning to my pain.
“Get me my bag,” the man ordered her.
But before she could bring it, my vision blurred and darkness covered me
