Chapter 143

Megan hadn’t even had a chance to react when her stomach slammed into the chair beside her. The pain was so intense that she instantly doubled over

Rence was still furious and charged at Megan, throwing punches and kicks without holding back

Renee yelled, You bitch! You want to throw hands? I’ll show you what happens when you mess with me!”

Megan felt her vision blur, everything turning black, and something warm slowly trickling down her leg. What?she thought, but before she could react, the darkness took over

She just passed out

Blake hurried upstairs with the first aid kit, only to catch the whole scene unfolding

He quickly pulled Renee back, and when he spotted the blood streaking down Megan’s leg, his face went white. She’s pregnant. I’m calling an ambulance.”

No! Don’t call!Renee snapped, fury written all over her face

Renee stamped her foot, shouting, I said don’t call! Let her suffershe’s just scum. I don’t believe Yolanda would ever go against me for someone like that. You have no idea, I hit one of the kids she cared about before, and she didn’t even have the guts to stand up to me. Some people are born beneath usnothing but animals, nothing but ants, destined to be stomped on!”

Blake’s eyes darted with a sudden emotion, unease twisting in his chest as memories crashed in. Years back, Renee had smacked his little brotherjust a kid trying to beg for coinsso hard, the poor boy went deaf in one ear. I’ll never forget that day,Blake thought. How could anyone be so cruel?‘

Renee had been about fifteen then, done up like the queen bee of the school. Everywhere she went, a swarm of students tagged along, worshipping her every move. She acted like she owned the place

She tossed a handful of hundreddollar bills onto the ground, then coldly instructed Jasper Clark, her bodyguard, I never want to see these disgusting beggars here again. Make sure they’re gone next time. They’ve totally ruined my mood for shopping.”

The bodyguard, clearly panicked, instantly grabbed Blake’s brother and hauled him off to the side

Blake’s brother tried to crawl after the cash, but those other students only jeered at him, laughing and kicking the bills around like it was some kind of jokea cruel chorus of mockery echoing down the street

Renee joined in, her laugh ringing out, clear and bright like tinkling chimes

They were all just kids back then, too young to tell right from wrong, caught up in herd mentality. Maybe they just wanted Renee’s approval, and that’s why they did such things

After losing hearing in one ear, Blake’s little brother scraped up the scattered bills and bought a cake for Blake’s birthday

But hardship haunted every corner of their lives

On the way home, his brother stumbled and the cake was ruined, and all the two of them could do was hold each other and weep

Back then, Blake swore to himself that one day, he’d rise above it all

But with no degree and no connections, climbing out of that pit felt damn near impossible

He raced like he didn’t care if he lived or died, just scrambling to pay his brother’s medical billsnever thinking he’d ever run into Rence again

Back then, Charles had shoved a wad of cash his way and forced him overseas

Now he was back, and Renee hadn’t changed a bitthose same malicious eyes, just as coldblooded and uncaring as before

Good. That just means when he finally goes for payback, he won’t feel even a hint of guilt

Renee slipped her arm around Blake, smirking with obvious pride. Hah! That’s what happens if you mess with me! Blake, same goes for youcross me, and I’ll ruin you.”

Blake met her gaze, the words echoing quietly in his head

Renee, you already made my life hellway before today, Blake thought to himself

If it weren’t for Yolanda’s deal, there’s no way I’d have clawed my way out of that nightmare and come back, he told himself

Not a soul had any idea what kind of hell he’d been through out there, all alone in a foreign land

Blake gently brushed Renee’s hair back from her ear, his voice soft. I’d never hurt you, Renny. Come on, let’s head outthis place reeks of blood. Not somewhere we want to stay.”

Renee rose up on her tiptoes and pressed a sweet kiss to his cheek, her eyes sparkling with pride

Exactly!Renee wrinkled her nose with a frown. Blood smells so filthyjust makes me sick.”

Still hanging onto his arm, Renee sauntered off with Blake, their syrupy smiles painting them like the perfect lovestruck pair as they left all the chaos behind

After they left, finally someone dared to pick up the phone and call the cops

Megan was rushed to the hospital, but it was already too latethe baby was gone

She’d wanted to trust Greg one more time, just for the little one. But now, there was nothing left to hope for

*****

Yolanda was just about to drift off when the hospital called out of the blue

The doctor’s voice was urgentMegan was in the ER, and since they hadn’t been able to get through to Greg, Yolanda was their only hope. Please get here as fast as you can,he said

By the time Yolanda arrived at the hospital, Megan was already being wheeled out of the emergency room

Her eyes were closed, and there was no trace of life left in her

Yolanda just couldn’t understand how things could go so suddenly wrong. She took Megan’s hand; all she could feel was the cold, lifeless touch that sent a shiver through her

The doctor explained grimly, We couldn’t save the baby, and her condition is serious. We’ve been trying her husband’s phone, but can’t get through. She needs another surgerythere’s a problem with her fallopian tube and it has to be removed. If we don’t do it now, it’ll be really hard for her to ever get pregnant again. But we need her husband’s signature to go ahead.”

It was a major decision, but before Megan passed out, she’d said she had no parentsjust her husband

Without her husband’s signature, they couldn’t do the

surgery

Yolanda held onto Megan’s cold hand, glancing at her ghostly pale face, then whipped out her phone to call Greg

Megan couldn’t get through earlier, but Yolanda managed to connect.

Greg, where are you?Yolanda demanded

Greg’s voice came out thin and shaky. He was struggling to pick himself up off the dirty pavement at the mouth of an alley, moving inch by inch, fighting to not just collapse

His entire body was a mess of cuts and bruises, and pain stabbed at his side with every breathhe could tell at least a couple ribs were broken. Even the smallest step felt like torture

He hadn’t dared answer Megan’s calls before. She’s pregnantif she knew what happened to me, she’d only worry herself sick,’ Greg thought, guilt gnawing at him

I’m outside,Greg rasped, forcing himself to sound as steady as possible. Is there something you need, Miss Grant?”

Yolanda had given him the cash before and wiped out all his debts, leaving him free from that hellhole

But even tonight, he was still being hounded by those guystheir real target was Yolanda all along

Greg might be slow, but even he could see through it. Those people were set on driving him insane, using his old debts to force him to hit up Yolanda for money, just like beforeto make him screw up his life all over again

Yolanda threatened to kill him last timethat pulled him back from the edge

Now his debts were gone. He didn’t have to keep lying to Megan every day, and didn’t have to watch his back every night, terrified someone was out for payback

He could finally live like an honest man

Yolanda had told him before, if he still had even the tiniest bit of comcience, he should at least think ab Megan’s baby

He’d thought he’d lost all sense of right and wrong, but tonight’s beating snapped something back inside him, making him remember the man he used to be

He remembered those days when some local boss had his crew after them, a dozen guys beating them senseless. He’d thrown himself over Megan and shielded her, protecting her all the way until college. When did I end up turning into the monster I once fought so hard against? he wondered

The concrete jungle of this city really could swallow you up, make you forget who you are and leave you lost in the emptiness

Greg pressed his body against the cold wall, tears pouring down his face. Right now, all he wanted was to crawl back home. Those guys took one look at the broken wreck he’d become tonightdidn’t even fight back. nothing but a beaten dogand just lost interest. They left him there, deciding he was no longer worth their time, probably wouldn’t ever come looking for him again

He was desperate to get back to Megan, desperate to see her face. All Greg could think was how badly he needed to drop to his knees, beg her to forgive him. He wanted her to know, from this moment on, he was done messing up. Never againhe’d promise her, and he’d mean it

But Yolanda’s voice was heavyit cut deeper than a knife straight to his heart

Megan’s in trouble,Yolanda said, her words sharp and merciless. She couldn’t reach you tonight, so she asked me to bring her to the hotel. I’d barely stepped out when the hospital calledMegan was rushed in, and the baby didn’t make it. She needs emergency surgery to remove her fallopian tube, but they can’t do it without your signature. Greg, I don’t care what you’ve been doing or where you’ve beenMegan needs you. right now. Tonight, she told me she was done with the studio, said all she wanted was to stay home and take care of her child. But now-”

Titan Part 1: The Discovery of BetrayalYolanda Grant’s marriage was built on patience, sacrifice, and quiet endurance — but that illusion shattered in one night. It was late when she arrived at a dark, empty alley after receiving a mysterious message with an address. At first, she thought it was a misunderstanding. After all, her husband Charles Sinclair — a man of wealth, power, and refined taste — would never lower himself to something so vulgar. But when she saw him holding a young woman in his arms, kissing and touching her like a man possessed, every ounce of denial drained from her. Charles, the proud and disciplined businessman, was cheating — and in a filthy alleyway, no less.Part 2: The Scene of HumiliationFrom the safety of her car, Yolanda watched as the scene unfolded. The woman clinging to Charles was frail, trembling, and emotional, like a flower blooming in the mud. The surroundings — the stained floor, damp walls, and suffocating darkness — mocked everything Charles had always claimed to be. This wasn’t just infidelity; it was degradation. Yolanda’s mind swirled with disbelief. Her husband, who obsessed over class and perfection, had become a man of impulse and dirt. She didn’t confront him or make a scene; she didn’t even cry. Instead, she leaned back in her seat, numb, realizing that her marriage was already over in spirit.Part 3: Two Years of DevotionAs she sat there, flashes of the past flooded her mind. Two years of marriage — two years of her trying to please him in every way. She had known from the start that Charles didn’t love her. On their wedding day, he had made it painfully clear that his heart already belonged to another woman. Still, Yolanda married him out of hope, out of love, out of the foolish belief that devotion could melt even the coldest heart. She gave up her career, her ambitions, and her independence, just to prove she was worthy of him. She cared for him like a nurse for her patient — cooking his meals, planning his wardrobe, and tending to every detail of his life. And in return, she got nothing but distance and silence.Part 4: The Breaking PointNow, watching him entwined with another woman, everything she had built inside her — the patience, the sacrifice, the illusion — collapsed. The man she had once called her husband had become unrecognizable. He had torn off his noble mask and revealed himself as nothing more than a beast driven by desire. Yolanda felt like she’d been slapped, her dignity shattered into pieces. But instead of screaming or crying, she felt an eerie calm. Her pain was too deep to express. All she could think was: This marriage must end.Part 5: Charles’s UneaseWhile Yolanda drove home, Charles suddenly sensed that something was wrong. The headlights of a passing car illuminated his face, and a chill ran down his spine. He didn’t know whose car it was, but unease stirred in his chest. The girl in his arms whimpered for his attention, but his mind was already elsewhere. Straightening his clothes, he pulled away coldly. “That’s enough for tonight,” he said flatly. “The company’s got big projects. I can’t afford divorce rumors right now.” His words revealed not love, but calculation — every move guided by image and control. The girl, blinded by her feelings, agreed softly, claiming she would wait. But to Charles, it was just another temporary indulgence.Part 6: The Return HomeWhen Yolanda returned home, the villa felt colder than ever. She had just come out of the shower when Charles entered the bedroom, carrying his jacket. He looked as immaculate as always — tall, handsome, commanding — but tonight, his arrogance seemed cruel. On his pristine white shirt, Yolanda noticed a faint smear of pink lip gloss. She had never worn lip gloss; she hated its stickiness. That small, shiny mark told her everything she needed to know. As she dried her hair, she kept her expression neutral, unwilling to give him the satisfaction of seeing her pain.Part 7: The Cold ConversationCharles glanced at her and asked casually, “When did you get back?”“This afternoon,” she replied. He loosened his tie, unbuttoning his shirt as if nothing had happened. “I was out playing golf tonight,” he added. The lie rolled off his tongue effortlessly. Through the reflection in the window, Yolanda saw the dirt on his back — proof that golf wasn’t the only game he’d been playing. With quiet fury, she shot back, “Then I guess you scored plenty of holes. Congrats.”Her sarcasm caught him off guard. For the first time, he frowned, slightly unsettled. He wasn’t used to this tone from her — the woman who once worshiped him now sounded indifferent, almost mocking.Part 8: His Cruel ArroganceInstead of apologizing, Charles smirked and wrapped his arm around her waist. “Are you mad? I told you when we got married that I didn’t love you. If you’re that unhappy, find someone else to cheat with.” His words cut through her like a blade. It wasn’t just betrayal anymore — it was humiliation. He treated her heartbreak as an inconvenience, as if her pain were irrelevant. Inside, Yolanda’s chest felt like it was being strangled with wire, every breath searing. Yet she stayed silent. Her quietness, once a sign of love, now turned into armor.Part 9: The Memory of InnocenceIn that moment, Yolanda’s mind drifted back to when she first met Charles. She was young, freshly adopted into the Grant family, and he was already the picture of perfection — disciplined, confident, untouchable. Back then, she looked at him with admiration and love. To her, he was everything she aspired to be. Never in her wildest dreams did she imagine that this same man would someday make her feel worthless. All those years of love, of marriage, of giving — they now felt like a cruel joke.Part 10: A New Beginning Hidden in the Word “Fine”Charles chuckled when she finally said, “Fine.” To him, it was just another empty threat, another outburst that would fade with time. He kissed her cheek, confident that her love would keep her shackled to him forever. What he didn’t realize was that this time, “Fine” wasn’t surrender — it was goodbye. Behind her calm eyes, Yolanda had already made her decision. The love that once bound her had turned to ash, and from that ash, something new was forming — strength.Chapter 1 ends with Yolanda’s quiet determination to take back her life. She won’t cry or beg anymore. This time, she’ll walk away — not as a broken wife, but as a woman reborn through betrayal.
