Chapter 10
The two men were none other than the kidnappers she had previously hired!
Dorothy’s eyes widened in disbelief as she took two steps back.
Nathaniel said, “They’ve already confessed. The kidnapping was arranged by you, and you framed Josephine, making everyone believe you were the victim.”
Dorothy shook her head. “I don’t know them! Nathan, don’t believe their one–sided story…”
་་
Nathaniel didn’t give Dorothy a chance to explain.
He took out his phone and held the screen up to her face.
On the screen was a screenshot of a cross–border transfer, the recipient was Dorothy, and the amount was 15 million dollars.
He scrolled further back.
In the photos, Dorothy was dressed in luxurious clothes, living a life of extravagance, completely different from the pitiful situation she had previously described of starving abroad.
Dorothy’s face turned pale. She reached out to grab the phone, but missed.
She had no idea where Nathaniel had found these things.
Even less did she know who was so determined to ruin her, broadcasting the surveillance video that started it all on the big screen.
Nathaniel looked at Dorothy, his eyes filled with utter disappointment.

He had met Dorothy in college, and it had been nearly ten years since then.
The Dorothy he remembered was gentle and kind, sensible and considerate, completely different from the ruthless woman before him.
If not for the irrefutable evidence, he would never have believed Dorothy could be so deranged.
“Nathan, I can explain!” Dorothy faced Nathaniel’s sharp gaze, her voice trembling. “I didn’t mean to play the victim in front of you. I just loved you too much and was afraid you’d fall for someone else after we were apart. As for the money, I planned to pay you back. After all, I don’t really need it…”
Nathaniel reached out, his slender fingers brushing Dorothy’s trembling cheek.
Then, he gripped her chin hard!
“Tell me, where is Josephine?”
Dorothy gasped in pain, tears welling up in her eyes.
“I–I don’t know…”
“Speak!” Nathaniel’s fingers tightened, almost crushing her bones.
Edward finally couldn’t bear it anymore and said, “Nathaniel, let Dorothy go first! I’ll tell you where Josephine is. She’s very safe right now, extremely safe.”
Dorothy’s mother looked at him in disbelief. “Honey, are you really going to let him go find Josephine?”
But Edward’s face was dark as he spoke each word slowly:
“Dorothy brought this on herself. She deserves it!”

“And you! If you hadn’t spoiled Dorothy all these years, would she have turned out like this? The two of you–one plotting, one covering up–have brought nothing but shame to me!”
“From today on, you and she are to leave this house. The farther you go, the better!”
Dorothy’s mother’s legs gave out and she collapsed to the floor.
After the engagement banquet, those who bullied Josephine either lost a hand, or if they didn’t, their families went bankrupt within three months.
During this time, Nathaniel desperately searched for Josephine, but there was no trace of her.
He went to the UK, following the address Edward had given him, and found her school, only to learn that Josephine had joined the “Dawn Initiative.”
The “Dawn Initiative” was a cross–border medical aid project, and the whereabouts of its participants were strictly confidential.
Nathaniel tried every method, but still couldn’t get any information from the school.
So he resigned from his position as a board member at New York University and spent his days drinking in bars
In just three months, women came and went around him like a revolving door.
These women came from all walks of life, but the only thing they had in common was that each of them, in some way, resembled Josephine.
On this day, Nathaniel was once again killing time at a bar.

Knowing he was always searching for someone like Josephine, his friend went to great lengths to find more than a dozen women who resembled her for him to choose from.
“Mr. Gordon, these are the stand–ins I’ve carefully selected for you. See if any of them catch your eye?”
Nathaniel lifted his eyelids, his cold gaze sweeping over the nervous and expectant faces, finally settling on one girl.
The girl kept her head down, her long hair falling over her shoulders, and the tear–shaped mole at the corner of her eye was exactly like Josephine’s.
Nathaniel narrowed his eyes slightly. “Her.”
His friend dismissed the others, and before leaving, patted the girl’s shoulder and whispered in her ear:
“Mr. Gordon had an ex named Josephine, and you look a lot like her. Take good care of Mr. Gordon tonight, and you’ll be well rewarded!”
