Chapter 11
The lighting in the private room was dim.
The girl sat on Nathaniel’s lap, so nervous that she barely dared to breathe.
She had heard stories about Nathaniel.
It was said that he and Dorothy were once in love, but somehow he ended up falling for her younger sister, Josephine.
After that, Dorothy was thrown out.
Judging by how the story went, the girl thought Josephine must be a femme fatale, the kind who could steal a man’s soul.
Otherwise, why would this famous big shot kick Dorothy out for her, and end up living such a decadent life?
Nathaniel had no idea what the girl was thinking.
He reached out and lifted her chin, examining her as if she were a piece
of art.
At that moment, the girl suddenly gathered her courage and wrapped her arms around his neck.
Nathaniel was taken aback, but he didn’t push her away.
He was never a gentleman to begin with.
Ever since Josephine left, he had only wanted to piece together her image from the faces of others.

Unfortunately, this time, the girl broke a taboo as soon as she approached.
She leaned close to Nathaniel’s ear and called out coyly, “Brother–in- law…”
The moment he heard those words, Nathaniel’s drunken eyes suddenly
cleared.
His face turned cold as he forcefully shoved the girl off his lap!
The girl screamed and fell to the floor.
“What did you just call me?” Nathaniel looked down at her, his eyes icy.
He was drunk, but not insane.
He knew none of these people were Josephine, and none of them could ever replace her.
“I, I…” The girl was terrified, scrambling out of the room.
Nathaniel instantly lost all interest.
He loosened his tie, preparing to step outside for some air.
As he passed another private room, he caught sight of a girl sitting inside.
The girl’s figure and hairstyle were strikingly similar to Josephine’s. At that moment, she was nestled beside a man, listening tenderly as he sang.
Nathaniel’s pupils contracted, a flash of disbelief and joy in his eyes.
He hurriedly pushed open the door, striding over to the couple and forcefully shoving the man aside.
Immediately after, he pulled the girl tightly into his arms.
“Josephine!” His voice trembled, his arms like steel around her. “I’ve been

searching everywhere for you, and here you are fooling around with another man. Do you believe I’ll kill you!”
The girl was terrified.
She struggled desperately, “I’m not Josephine, let me go!”
Nathaniel ignored her completely.
Seeing his girlfriend being bullied, the man quickly scrambled up from
the floor, grabbed a wine bottle from the table, and smashed it over Nathaniel’s head.
With a loud crash, the bottle shattered into pieces.
The room erupted in screams.
By the time the boss arrived, Nathaniel had sobered up.
His head was wrapped in gauze, and he sat alone on the sofa like a wounded lone wolf, clutching the half–knitted scarf Josephine had made
for him.
After Josephine went abroad, her roommate handed the scarf over to him.
Since then, he had kept it with him at all times.
Some said he had lost his mind, while others claimed he was just pretending to be devoted.
Nathaniel never denied any of it.
After all, even he couldn’t understand why he had become like this.
His acquaintance with Josephine began with an act of revenge.

For two years, he kept tormenting Josephine for Dorothy’s sake, until he finally drove her to the brink.
The day before Josephine left, he even told the kidnappers to do whatever they wanted with her.
What was she feeling at that moment?
Nathaniel suddenly threw his head back, pressing his hand hard against his brow, trying to fight off the overwhelming guilt.
He didn’t know how much time had passed before a nearly absurd idea popped into his mind.

He grabbed his phone and dialed a number, his tone forceful: “You have three days. Help me get into the global war zone as a communications expert. No matter where Josephine is hiding, I must find her!”
