Our Babies 30

Chapter 30

I stood there in the quiet garden with a small satisfied smile on my lips.

I glanced at the broken cup and I shook my head slowly. I had been so close to being poisoned in my own home. I took a deep breath as I ran my fingers through my hair.

It didn’t surprise me that Ana had tried something like this. What surprised me was how long it had taken her to make a move.

I glanced at the spot she had been sitting in, then I scoffed, turning away. I had seen her eyes the moment she stepped into the garden. They had been full of jealousy, bitterness, and rage.

I walked over to a bench and sat on it. My legs had started shaking. But it wasn’t from fear, but from adrenaline.

I lost track of how long I sat there, but I was pulled out of my thoughts when the sound of urgent footsteps reached my ears.

“Willow?”

I looked up.

Alastair was rushing toward me, his hair was disheveled, and his eyes were filled with

worry.

“I’m fine,” I said quickly as he knelt in front of me.

He cupped my cheeks, and his thumbs brushed over my skin softly. “I heard what happened. The guards sent a report. Ana tried to poison you?”

“She did,” I replied, keeping my voice steady. “But I saw it coming, so she couldn’t succeed.”

His eyes narrowed as he glanced around the garden. “Did she touch you?”

“She tried.” I said with a small smirk. “She didn’t succeed.”

A slow grin spread across his face. He leaned in and pressed a firm kiss to my forehead. “Of course she didn’t. I should have known you would handle it.”

I rolled my eyes as I smiled widely. “You doubted me?”

“Never,” he chuckled. “But I would have preferred being here when it happened.”

“I had it under control.” I informed him. “All those self-defence classes you made me attend finally paid off.”

He smirked and leaned closer. “That’s my girl.”

My heart warmed, and I bit my lip to stop myself from grinning like an idiot.

Alastair stood and offered his hand. “Come inside. You’ve had enough drama for one day.”

I took his hand, and we walked back into the house.

He pulled me into the living room, poured a glass of water and handed it to me. I sat on the couch and sipped slowly as the stress and tension in my body melted away. He sat beside me, and wrapped his arm around my shoulder. “Are you okay?” He said.

I gave him a small smile. “Yes. Yes I am.”

I leaned my head against his shoulder as a comfortable silence fell between us.

Finally, I shifted slightly and turned toward him.

“I have something to tell you,” I said.

He raised an eyebrow. “Good or bad?”

I tried to keep a straight face. “It depends on your reaction.”

He tilted his head, giving me a curious look. “Alright, you’re scaring me now. What is it?”

I took a deep breath, reached into my pocket, and pulled out the small stick I had hidden there all day.

He frowned. “What’s that?”

I handed it to him.

It took him a second for his mind to process it. Then his eyes widened. “Is this-?”

I nodded. “It’s positive.”

Alastair blinked. “You’re… you’re pregnant?”

I nodded again, trying to hide a smile.

His mouth fell open, and then a huge grin spread across his face. He pulled me into a tight hug, lifting me off the couch.

“You’re pregnant!” he laughed, spinning me. “You’re carrying my child?”

I couldn’t help it, I began laughing. “Yes, yes! Please put me down before I throw up.”

He set me down immediately but he didn’t let me go. He cupped my face with both hands, staring at me like I had just given him the world.

“This is the best news I’ve ever heard.”

“I found out yesterday,” I told him. “But I wanted to wait for the right moment to tell you.”

“So, after a poisoning attempt, that’s a great timing,” he said with a laugh.

I laughed.

He leaned in and kissed me slowly and lovingly.

When he finally pulled back, we were both out of breath. “I’m going to take care of the both of you, every single day.”

“I know,” I whispered, giving him a watery smile.
