Chapter 7
Kenneth’s friends immediately stepped forward, echoing his lies without hesitation.
“That’s right! We all know about this!”
“Sandra is just a maid. She’s greedy enough to think she gets to cling to Kenneth just because she’s worked for the Harrisons for years.”
“Kenneth’s been more than generous to her. And now she has the nerve to show up and make a scene? How shameless!”
The murmurs among the guests grew louder, and the eyes turned toward me now brimmed with contempt and scorn.
Some pointed openly in my direction, while others cursed under their breath, “So, she’s a fraud? Sure enough, you can’t judge a book by its cover. Who could have thought someone so refined on the outside could be so vicious underneath?”
Watching the crowd’s reaction, Kenneth flashed a twisted smile.
He took a step closer, closing the distance between us, and threatened in a voice meant only for my ears, “If you know what’s good for you, Sandra, walk away now.
“Or I swear I’ll ruin your reputation right here today. You won’t even have a way out.“–
The venom in his expression was almost laughable.
The housekeeper, trembling with fury, pointed a shaking finger at
Kenneth.

“You… You ungrateful wretch!

“Ms. Burton begged her father to pull his strings to save you back then. Or you would have rotted in prison already!
“She cut ties with her own family, nearly died shielding you from your enemies… After all she’s done for you, this is how you repay her?”
Kenneth’s expression changed a few times. He clearly hadn’t expected the housekeeper to expose him in front of so many people, and the murderous glare in his eyes was chilling.
Just then, Jasmine, who had been hiding meekly behind him, suddenly looked up, a sharp glint of malice flashing in her eyes.
Clutching the hem of his jacket, she spoke in a timid tone that belied the venom in her words, “Kenneth… I know it’s not my place to say this…
“But… Ms. Burton keeps clinging to you. What if … she never lets you go? Won’t she … become a burden and hold you back?”
She paused deliberately, took a shallow breath as though gathering courage, and glanced around at the guests before continuing, her voice trembling yet unnervingly clear, “I heard from your friends… that… scheming, ingrateful people like her … should all be thrown into the
sea…”
The entire hall fell deathly silent.
Even Kenneth’s friends were taken aback–none had expected Jasmine, who always seemed so innocent and harmless, to utter something so cold- blooded.
Kenneth’s pupils contracted sharply. Almost instinctively, he glanced toward me, a flicker of hesitation passing through his eyes.
But it lasted for only a second before being swallowed by viciousness.

Obviously, he was tempted by Jasmine’s suggestion.
“Jasmine’s right.

He tilted his chin toward the bodyguards. “Drag her out and throw her into the sea.”
His bodyguards nodded without hesitation and closed in around me, twisted grins spreading across their faces.
Meanwhile, Jasmine shrank back behind Kenneth, a triumphant smile escaping her lips.
I, however, stood perfectly still, not moving at all. Instead, I burst into laughter so deep my whole body shook, tears streaming down my face.
“Kenneth, do you honestly believe you’re above the law?”
In the very next moment, the heavy, ornately carved doors were slammed
open.
Interpol officers in black uniforms swarmed inside, guns raised. The leader shouted sternly, “Lower your weapon, Kenneth Harrison! You’re
under arrest!”
The entire scene instantly plunged into chaos.
Screams erupted as guests threw their hands over their heads and dropped into crouches.
Just as Kenneth’s friends instinctively reached for their waists, the Interpol officers, who had already anticipated their move, barked, “Nobody moves! Or we open fire!”
The viciousness on Kenneth’s face froze at once, then twisted into fury as

He glared at me intently. “It was you! Sandra, you orchestrated all this!”
“Can you blame me?” I met his eyes, my voice icy.
“After three years of your betrayal, did you really think I wouldn’t have a backup plan?”
The officers swiftly tightened their circle, closing in on Kenneth.
Terrified, Jasmine shrieked, crying, “I have nothing to do with this! I know nothing!”
“Apprehend him!”
At the team leader’s order, two officers lunged forward.
However, the second before they touched Kenneth, he suddenly shoved the bodyguard beside him aside and hurled Jasmine straight into the arms of an officer.
Seizing the moment of chaos, he burst into a sprint and slammed full- force into the floor–to–ceiling window at the edge of the hall.
A deafening crash tore through the air as the enormous glass wall shattered.
Shards exploded outward, slicing deep into his arm.
Right before he leaped into the darkness outside, he shot me one last, piercing glance.
