Chapter 18
Seeing Kenyon’s expression, the assistant could tell that Kenyon probably still didn’t know about this matter.
“For some reason, some indecent photos suddenly appeared on every colleague’s computer. It caused a huge stir. They say Marlene’s father was so furious he had a cerebral hemorrhage and had to be hospitalized.”
With a loud crash, the last shred of reason in Kenyon’s mind vanished.
He snatched the car keys from the assistant’s hand, slammed his foot on the accelerator, and the car shot out like an arrow from a bow.
At that moment, Thelma was lying in a beauty salon getting a facial when Kenyon suddenly burst in and dragged her off the bed.
“Tell me, were you the one who sent out those photos and videos back then?!”
With a facial mask still on her face, Thelma was startled, but quickly regained her composure. “So what if it was me? She was just a mistress who couldn’t show her face in public. Besides, we were about to get married at the time. How could I feel at ease if I didn’t get rid of all the women around you?”
“Are you looking for death!” The next second, Kenyon’s eyes turned bloodshot as he lunged forward and grabbed Thelma by the throat.
Thelma had never seen Kenyon so violent before. A wave of fear surged in her heart, and she seized a chance to turn and run toward the door.
But in the next moment, Kenyon yanked her by the hair and slammed her hard against the wall. “Thelma, have I given you too much face, making

you think you can touch my people?”
The oxygen in Thelma’s chest was dwindling with every passing second, and deep fear wrapped around her. Yet, as a proud heiress, even now she refused to bow her head.
“Kenyon, do you really think you’re any better? Don’t forget, you were the one who gave Marlene to Dewey, and you were the one who whipped her ninety–nine times. Isn’t it a bit late to act all righteous now?”
“Kenyon, if my father finds out about what happened today, he will never let you off!”
In the past, whenever Thelma mentioned her father, Kenyon would always show some restraint. But this time, it was clearly different.
Instead of loosening his grip, Kenyon only tightened it. Pressing his face close to Thelma’s, he forced out each word from his throat.
“From now on, our engagement is canceled.”
Suddenly, his hand released her throat. Thelma collapsed to the floor, and as she watched Kenyon’s figure walk away, she shouted, “Are you crazy?!”
But Kenyon didn’t even look back and left straight away.
On the way, Kenyon ran several red lights, driving at breakneck speed. At that moment, only one thought filled his mind.
Find Marlene and explain everything to her.
Everything that happened before was his fault. Now that he had called off the engagement, they could start over. There was still time for everything.
The doorbell rang again and again. Marlene, still groggy and in her pajamas, opened the door, only to be suddenly enveloped by a wave of

Kenyon pulled Marlene tightly into his arms, holding her so close it was as if he wanted to merge her into his own body.
“Marli, I know everything now. Everything that happened before was my fault, all my fault. I’ve already broken off the engagement with Thelma. Can we start over again?”
It was only then that Marlene gradually realized what was happening. She never imagined that one day she would find herself in the middle of such a melodramatic late–night plea for reconciliation.
But when melodrama truly arrived, all Marlene felt was disgust.
Kenyon’s eyes were full of hope. “I know all about the photos. I’ll clear your name. Tomorrow I’ll take you to meet my parents. No matter whether they agree or not, I will marry you. Marli, can we start over?”
But Kenyon’s only answer was a resounding slap.
The crisp sound of the slap echoed through the empty stairwell, and a mocking smile tugged at the corner of Marlene’s mouth.
“Kenyon, do you really think marrying me is some kind of great favor to
me?”
Kenyon looked up, only to see nothing but ridicule in Marlene’s eyes.
“Do you think what you did is any better than Thelma exposing my photos? Kenyon, don’t forget, you were the one who took those photos.”
With that one sentence, all color drained from Kenyon’s face.
“Kenyon, don’t come here again. There is no possibility between us.
That sentence was almost a death sentence for Kenyon, but he still

desperately searched for an answer.
“Why? You used to love me so much, Marli, why…“.
