CHAPTER 0137
Meadow’s POV:
“If you want to beg, then do it properly,” I gritted out, tossing my purse onto the floor.
I was boiling.
My insides were on fire.
I had never known Tyler as a coward. I used to look at him like he hung the fucking moon–even while he was treating me badly. I was so blinded by love and adoration and the fact that someone was showing me a little bit of attention, when in truth, he only showed me a little attention because he was trying to get me to fall in love with him for Juniper.
Which worked a little too well.
And now, after everything that had happened, everything that he had done and said to me… he would so easily fold and try to beg me to listen to him.
Tyler shoved out a nervous, breathy laughter. “Meadow, what’re you-”
“Alaric?” I murmured, turning to face him. He was already looking at me, a proud smirk on his face. He arched a brow in response. “Can you get him on his knees for me, daddy?” My voice was low, but I made sure it was loud enough for Tyler to hear.
Alaric’s gaze dropped to my mouth and I wished he would kiss me right now. “Whatever you want, princess.”
My breath hitched.
Princess. That was new, but I fucking loved it.
Before I could say anything else, Alaric had wrapped a hand around Tyler’s neck.
He didn’t even try to fight or run. Maybe because Alaric’s cold warning was still echoing in his ears. “I’ll do it,” he choked out. “Sir, I swear. I’ll do it. Just…”
“I don’t see your knees moving, Ty,” I cut in, crossing my arms in front of my chest. “If you’re trying to apologize to me, you should look up at me while doing so, don’t you think?”
Tyler’s entire face was red–I wasn’t sure if it was from embarrassment or the fact that he couldn’t breathe. He looked at Alaric, his eyes pleading while Alaric expression was stoic. He narrowed his gaze. “You heard her.”
Just then, Tyler’s knees buckled and he lowered himself to the floor. Only then did Alaric unwrap his fingers from his neck. Tyler coughed out air as he tried to catch his breath.
And then he turned to face me. “Meadow, I had no idea, I swear. I didn’t mean-”
“To almost rape me?” I spat. “You didn’t mean to try to make my life miserable? To string me along for two fucking years while you fucked my sister behind my back?”
His throat bobbed as he swallowed. “That was… I was high that night. You know t-”

I didn’t even let him finish his sentence before I swung my hand toward his face, slapping his cheek so hard his head jerked to the side.
I hated him. I wanted to do more to hurt him. I didn’t have feelings for Tyler anymore obviously–I lost them the night he hurt me—but now it just felt like I was channeling not only the anger I felt toward him, but the one I felt toward my sister.
And with Alaric standing by me, a sense of boldness overwhelmed me. For some reason, I wanted him to be proud of me. I wanted him to see that I wasn’t always going to let anyone walk all over me. That I could handle myself.
I wanted to be worthy of him.
Just then, Alaric pulled me close to him, his hand around my arm as he leaned in to whisper. “Fucking hell, baby,” he breathed low into my ear, sending a shiver down my spine. “That was fucking sexy.”
Warmth spread throughout my chest and core, and I smiled at him, leaning in to kiss the corner of his mouth while his other hand drifted down to my ass.
And then he spanked it. In front of Tyler. “What do you want me to do to him?” he whispered so only I could
hear.
I didn’t answer. Instead, I turned around to face Tyler again. His fists were curled on either side of him, his jaw clenched as he glared at me.
It was then that I realized something else…
He wasn’t only surprised that I was Alaric’s wife. He was furious.
Now, all I needed to know was if this fury stemmed from the fact that I was not nearly half as miserable as he and Juniper had expected me to be.
Or from jealousy.
Smirking, I reached for Tyler’s jaw, tilting his head upward. “Juni didn’t tell you that I was married to your boss, even though I’m sure she must’ve realized what was going on the second she was released from that facility…” I trailed off, watching the anger on his face slowly morph into confusion.
Holy hell.

He didn’t know that as well. This kept getting better and better.
“She didn’t tell you where she was during that period you thought she was missing?” I chuckled. “Poor baby. You know, I wonder if she even loves you-
“She does,” he gritted out, narrowing his eyes. “She loves me.”
kept
“Then why didn’t she tell you that she was locked up in a loony bin? Or that my husband was the one who kept her in there and made sure she was treated like the psycho she was? What the hell did she even tell you when you asked where she’d been?” My grip tightened around his jaw, and my nails dug into the skin. “You’re so pathetic, so full of yourself. You think you know my sister, but you don’t.” I tilted my head, continuing. “You will, though.”

I released his jaw, stepping away from him.
I took a deep breath, glancing at Alaric. He was now leaning against the wall, his hands in his pockets as he watched me carefully. I couldn’t read the expression on his face, and I didn’t even try to.
I just looked back at Tyler. And then I spoke.
“All Juniper has ever wanted is what belongs to me. My life, my clothes, my friends–which I’ve always found hilarious because Nova is my only friend, and she hates Juni.”
Juniper hated everything about me, but for some reason, she wanted to be me. I wasn’t sure if she had even realized it, but that’s how it always was.
So while I was terrified of her and taking all the shit she had to offer because I felt guilty, my sister wanted my life. Seeing her dressed as me today confirmed that.
Tyler’s jaw ticked. I shook my head, biting my bottom lip to hide my smile. “Juni thought I would be miserable after losing you. But I wasn’t. So, you wanna know what my guess is?” I chuckled. “My guess is that Juniper is sick and tired of you. She only wants what I want, and that’s not you anymore. It’s…”
For a moment, I froze.
Alaric.
That was what she wanted, and she had blatantly given me a hint back at the restaurant. I knew that she couldn’t have him even if she tried to pretend to be me, but it didn’t shake the uneasy feeling.
Telling my father that I killed our mother so she could make me a target. So if he ever got out… he’d come after
- me.
And all of a sudden, the reason why I came here occurred to me again. A tremor racked my body.
I spun around to face Alaric and his brows pulled together in concern. He tilted his head slightly. A silent ‘are you okay?‘
I shook my head, feeling the back of my eyelids burn with unshed tears.
His jaw clenched and then he stepped forward.
“My office, Cross. Now,” he said firmly without looking away from me. “Try to escape and you’ll regret it for the rest of your life.”
Tyler’s eyes were wide as he immediately scrambled to his feet and scurried into Alaric’s office.
The moment I heard the sound of the door sliding shut, I threw myself into Alaric’s arms, my entire body shaking with fear.
“You were doing so good, baby,” he murmured into my hair. “What went wrong?”
For a moment, I didn’t respond, I just held onto him as his hand ran up and down my back so gently and patiently. “If this is hard for you, I can just-”
