CHAPTER 15

**ASHER POV**

I was in the office with Dad looking over some paperwork for the pack, when Spencer arrived at

the house

Oh damn,I said

Asher. If you hate it when he’s here then why did you make him your future Beta for when you take

over?Dad asked

I have my reasons,I said..

“Are you ever going to let me in on those reasons?Dad asked

Honestly, right now, you wouldn’t believe me even if I did tell you,I said

Alright. I just hope you know what you’re doing.Dad said

I do,I said, walking out of the office

I met Spencer in the foyer of the house and we had specific Alpha and Beta training today, so we

got stuck into it

It wasn’t regular combat training. This was more political training. I was really curious to see how Spencer would handle this sort of work

We were responsible for forming alliances with other packs, establishing contact with them, and resolving any disputes that may have arisen

We must do this before a war breaks out. We were essentially on damage control. And I needed to keep a close eye on Spencer. I couldn’t have him say the wrong thing to the wrong person, which could start a war. We had to deescalate situations for the good of the pack

Everything we did was intended for the good of the pack. I had to make sure that Spencer knew that. Being Beta meant that he had to put the pack before anything else. Except for our mates, of course. If Spencer ever finds a mate

He doesn’t really seem too interested in finding a mate. He just wants to screw as many women as possible

I feel sorry for the woman who does become his mate. It’s not going to be easy for her to know his

past

As soon as we arrived at my office, Spencer started complaining almost instantly about the

amount of paperwork involved in being the Alpha and Beta of the pack

It’s an honor to be in a position like this, and he was definitely happy when I asked him. But now he’s seeing what it’s really like. And I think he’s finally realizing that being Beta means more than just using his title to get random women into bed

His complaining started giving me a headache within minutes of his being here. I can’t believe that a 23yearold man complains as much as he does. I really didn’t think he was such a spoiled and

entitled brat

But then again, I have met his parents. And that does tell me a lot. They still dote on him and have

no problem with him still living at home at his age. They don’t even seem to be pushing him to get out there and try to find a mate and settle down. They’re just happy with the way things are at the

moment

There’s no way my deadbeat 23yearold child will be living in my house. I’ll be forcing them to get the hell out of the house and do something with their life

I just have to make their mother want to stay in the same room as me first. That was my first

obstacle

So, who was that girl yesterday? She was the one from the party? What happened?Spencer

asked

What do you mean? Nothing happened.” I said, sitting behind my desk

You spent most of the night talking to her and she was hanging around the next day. Do you really expect me to believe that nothing happened?Spencer asked

I dropped her at home because she was too drunk to get there herself. And then I came home

She showed up the next day to thank me for taking care of her and then she just didn’t leave. She

was really f*****g annoying to be honest.I said, shaking my head at the thought. And then

remember the look on Trinity’s face when she saw me with that girl. It felt like I could feel her pain

seeing me with another girl. That’s why I got rid of her as fast as possible after that

Even her touching me just gave me the creeps. There’s only one woman that I want to be close to right now. And like it or not, I am going to wear her down enough so we can have a decent conversation and get everything out in the open. I know she’s hiding things from me and I am determined to find out what they are

Once I find out why she’s so hesitant about us being mates, then maybe I might be able to break through that tough exterior she’s got

My phone ringing brought me out of my thoughts and I answered it

CHAPTER 15

It was the principal from the high school, letting me know that their tutor is apparently sick. He thought it sounded a bit suspicious, so he decided to call and let me know. Her father claims that she’s come down with a bug. But that’s pretty farfetched, even for werewolves

But once I found out who the tutor was, I turned to look at Spencer and he was looking through a magazine while sitting on the couch on the other side of the room

As soon as I hung up the phone I turned to look at Spencer and he was laughing at something he was reading. But once he saw me looking at him, he put the magazine down

What is it?He asked

The principal called and said that Trinity is sick. She’s got some sort of bug. Werewolves aren’t known for getting common illnesses. Not with the way we heal.I said, looking at him suspiciously

Yeah. That is weird. I’ll go and see what’s going on. It was probably mom or dad who called in for her.Spencer said

Yeah. That’ll be good. Thanks.I said

Spencer left my office and I sat behind my desk watching him go

As soon as I was sure he was out of the house, I got up from my desk, followed him out of the house, and made sure I stayed back a fair distance

When I reached the outside of their house, I knew where Trinity’s bedroom was so I stood in their backyard, hidden behind the shrubbery. But I quickly got a strong metallic smell that didn’t belong

here. I looked around to see if there was a dead animal around me or something, but there was

nothing. But I could definitely smell blood

I heard Spencer go into Trinity’s bedroom

instantly heard him start laughing. He began taunting Trinity, and then I heard him talking to his

mother. Apparently, Trinity had told her parents where to go and they didn’t like it

Now I was sure that the blood was wafting out of her bedroom

How badly hurt was she if I could smell the blood down here? There must be a lot of it there

I didn’t hear Trinity say anything, but when Spencer and his mother left her room, I stayed there. listening for any kinds of sounds

I could slightly hear her breathing. But that was only because her breath was really shallow, and she let out the occasional whimper and moan. She was in a lot of pain

I mindlinked Gage and told him where I was. He was also there in a matter of minutes, sneaking around their backyard so that we were outside Trinity’s window

CHARITH

What’s going on?Gage asked

Her dad called in sick for her. She won’t be going to work or college today. I don’t know for how long. He claims that she’s sick, but we both know that’s bullshit.I said

She tries to stay away from this house as much as possible. If she’s staying home, then someone is really wrong.Gage said

I can hear her from here. I can smell the blood. She’s hurt. Really badly.I said

Why don’t you go and see her.Gage said

Not yet. I don’t have enough evidence. I need you and Arlo to stay close.I said

I don’t know. She got really mad at me yesterday.Gage said

Yeah, Because you opened your f*****g mouth about knowing about the abuse. Just shut up and

be there for her. That’s all you’re meant to do. You’re meant to stop them beating her. Not make

her angry enough so she doesn’t have anywhere to run to when she’s in trouble.I snapped at him

without getting too loud. I didn’t want them in the house to hear us lurking around their yard

I’m sorry, I just couldn’t stand her staying at the house. I thought that if she knew I knew, she might want to move into the packhouse. That she’s not keeping a massive secret from me

anymore.I said

I know. I know that you wouldn’t do anything to hurt her. I’m gonna call Spencer back to the packhouse. Can you keep an eye on her please?I asked

I’m not leaving her side. Not after this. Tell dad whatever you want. He already thinks I’m a dead. beat. So it won’t really matter.Gage said

I won’t make you sound like a dead beat. But just stay with her. Don’t let them lay another finger on her. I need to find out why this started. They weren’t beating her when she was a kid.I said

I know. Something happened to make them hate her. I don’t know what it is either.Gage said

We need to find out. But right now, you need to stay here and let them know that you’re not leaving her side. Even if they know that you know what they did.I insisted

Not a problem.Gage said with nothing but determination on his face

I knew that Gage was going to stick by Trinny’s side no matter what

I wasn’t comfortable with an unmated male hanging around with my mate so much. But he’s my brother and he knows a lot more than anyone else does. I know that I can trust him. He won’t do anything to break that trust

(CHAPTER IS

If he does. I’ll break his f*****g neck

SUMMARY (~1000 Words in English)

Trinity was born into a werewolf pack where things seem perfect on the outside—strong leadership, pack unity, and loyalty. But Trinity knows better than anyone that the image doesn’t match reality. In this pack, if your family is respected and the Alpha favors you, life is comfortable. But some people learn how to manipulate, to hide their cruelty behind obedience, and Trinity’s own family happens to be experts at that.

After graduating high school, Trinity receives a full scholarship to a nearby college that accepts both humans and werewolves. For most wolves, that is a dream opportunity. But her parents refuse to let her leave the pack territory. They tell her she must remain at home, and Trinity has learned never to question their decisions. Disobedience is met with consequences—painful consequences.

She turned eighteen a few months ago, which technically makes her a legal adult allowed to live her life how she chooses. But Trinity knows her parents would involve the Alpha to block her from leaving, and she has no choice but to stay. The only thing she has independence in is her part-time job as a tutor at the local high school. She genuinely enjoys helping struggling kids—especially werewolf children who often have trouble focusing. The job pays, it gives her purpose, and it’s the one part of her life she feels proud of.

Trinity’s two closest friends are Gage and Arlo, twin brothers who happen to be the younger sons of the Alpha and Luna. She grew up with them, laughed with them, survived with them. They are her safe place—her reminder that not everyone in this pack is cruel. To everyone else, their friendship seems unusual: pack princes spending all their time with a girl outside the Alpha’s family line. People assume the relationship must be romantic. But the bond between Trinity, Gage, and Arlo is deeper than romance—they are family by choice.

One afternoon, after Trinity finishes tutoring, she meets the twins and they go out together like they always do—joking, teasing, and laughing at a local diner. The twins mention that they don’t want to be home tomorrow because someone important is returning. That person is Asher, their older brother—the future Alpha.

The moment Trinity hears his name, panic strikes her. Her heart races, her breathing tightens, but she hides it expertly. Asher’s return is something she has been dreading. There is a painful history between them—one that changed both their lives forever. Trinity knows Asher wouldn’t want to see her either, but she still fears what will happen when their paths cross again. His return means her carefully built emotional walls may crumble.

After spending the afternoon with the twins, Trinity returns home. But home isn’t safety. Home is punishment.

Her family is waiting.

Her father, mother, and older brother Spencer stand like judges preparing for a sentence Trinity has already memorized. She tries to turn away, but she knows resistance only makes things worse. They force her into the basement—the same basement where they punish her for something that happened years ago. Something they believe is entirely Trinity’s fault. Something she still insists was an accident.

They chain her arms overhead with silver restraints, burning her skin. Her mother selects a leather whip soaked in wolfsbane—ensuring that wounds heal slowly and painfully. The whip cracks across Trinity’s skin again and again. Blood forms. Pain radiates. But Trinity doesn’t scream. She refuses to give them the satisfaction.

When her mother grows tired, her brother Spencer steps forward wearing brass knuckles. He strikes her stomach repeatedly, anger controlling his fists. When he accidentally hits her face, their father lightly scolds him—not because of the pain inflicted, but because bruises on her face would raise suspicion at school.

Their cruelty is routine. Their words cut as sharply as the whip—accusing her of destroying their family, of being a burden, of being unwanted. Trinity has heard it all before. She has learned to respond not with tears, but with silence and defiance.

When they finally release her, Trinity cleans and dresses herself alone. Her body aches, her ribs feel possibly broken, burns mark her wrists, and bruises stain her skin. But she moves quietly through the world the next day—smiling when needed, talking to people, blending in. She has done it hundreds of times.

But the one thing she cannot ignore is the voice that wakes her through a mind link the next morning.

Asher.

His voice is steady, familiar, and filled with emotion she doesn’t want to face. Trinity shuts him out. Even her wolf, Lily, urges her to speak to him, arguing that Trinity hurt him too. But Trinity insists she did it for his sake. She had reasons—reasons no one knows.

After her long day at college, Trinity stops at a diner before returning home. There, two girls from high school—Ingrid and Rose—approach her. They always believed she was the reason the twins never paid attention to them. Jealousy taints their words. Trinity stays calm but firm. There’s nothing romantic between her and the twins—but if they used her name as an excuse to avoid shallow relationships, that’s not Trinity’s fault.

Trinity leaves the conversation with the same quiet strength she practices every day.

She survives.

Even when it hurts.

Even when she’s alone.

But Asher is back now.

And the past she tried to bury is coming with him.
