The Day He Forgot He Hated Me by Evangeline Marrow 28

I stayed in my old room that night, but even that felt really strange. People were trying to mind link me but I blocked them all off. So my phone started going off constantly. It was from almost everyone I knew in the pack. Not just from Arlo checking in and Asher trying to talk to me, but it was from people I went to high school with wondering what was going on with the fire and everything today

I ignored everyone and tried to have a peaceful night so I turned my phone off and I tried to get al little bit of sleep

Unfortunately, sleep eluded me all night so I got up at around 4am and I got a coffee and I sat on the bench in the kitchen since that was the only thing left to sit on while I was looking out the

window

All the neighbors were still asleep, but I noticed wolves passing the house pretty frequently. Obviously Asher had sent them to keep an eye on me

I wasn’t really surprised that he had done that. But I was still worried about everything else that

was going on in the pack and what could be happening at the packhouse

I watched the sunrise from the kitchen window before I went back upstairs and I had a shower and

got dressed in some clothes that I had left behind at the house

They were baggy and not the best looking, but I didn’t really care. It was all I had

I knew that I would have to buy more stuff but I needed a job first

So once I was ready I went out the front and I got in my crappy car and left the territory

I drove to college and I went to talk to my professors as soon as they got to school and I offered services as a tutor, which they all seemed interested in

They had students in all of their classes that could use a little help. And I was more than happy to

help

I also went to the human town, that the college was located in, after that and I went to as many businesses as possible and even the high school to show them everything I had done and I had a reference from the principal from the pack school about me tutoring students there and the

success rate that I had

I was hoping to get more tutoring jobs than to work anywhere else, but right now, I was willing to take anything

I hung around in town all day that day, not doing a whole lot. Mostly avoiding going home

I knew that I had caused a scene yesterday and everyone was going to be talking about it today.

didn’t want to have to deal with it

I needed to buy some food so I did that in town before I drove back to the pack

As soon as I pulled up outside of my house I saw there were a lot of people going in and out of the

house

I was really confused and I got out of the car with my two bags of groceries and slowly walked

inside

There were workers inside painting all the rooms and more neutral color and I saw furniture being

delivered to the house as well

Hi. You must be Trinity.A guy said walking over to me

Yeah. What the hell is going on here?I asked

Well, we were told that this whole house needed to be painted and furniture was going to be delivered today. Brand new furniture. We’ve been ordered to sort your house out for you.He said

Ordered by who?I asked, confused

The Alpha.” He said

Why the hell would the Alpha do this for me?I asked

I don’t know, ma’am. I’m just doing as I’m told. Oh, your new fridge is set up in the kitchen and ready to go so you can put your groceries away.He said

Thank you.I said

So I went to the kitchen and I put the groceries away and then I turned around and looked at everyone working around my house

So I walked outside where it was a little quieter and I pulled out my phone

Hello.Alpha Dennis answered

Alpha Dennis. It’s Trinity.I said

Oh, hi. I’m guessing you’re home.He said

Yeah. What is all of this?I asked

Well, Arlo told me what you said about the paint on the inside and honestly, I agree with you. Those colors were disgusting for such a nice house. He said

Yeah. They were. But the furniture and everything. I don’t understand.I said

Even if you tutor kids non stop, you’ll never be able to afford furnishing that whole house for at

least a year. And I know that you think you ruined out family. You didn’t. You didn’t do anything wrong so you can stop punishing yourself. He said

Arlo told you?I asked

Don’t blame him. I ordered him to mind link me while he was talking to you.Alpha Dennis said

Thinking back to the conversation that I had with Arlo, my heart started pounding in my chest and

my palms started feeling sweaty

Oh s**t. You heard everything.I said

I did. I’m sorry. I didn’t know that you were going to confess what you did. But, I’m glad that I now know. Trinity, if you’re mated to Asher then that makes you family. At least. You are actually family. So, you will be treated like family. And you aren’t going to work at any of those restaurants or diners that you applied at today. He said

You had someone following me?I asked

No. I actually own all of those businesses. I own most of the businesses in that town.He said, causing me to shake my head

Normally, I would be surprised. But I’m actually not.I said, making him laugh

I do want you to move back to the packhouse eventually. But I know that you don’t want to. Not yet anyway. So, you have your house and everything that you want in it. I just want you to concentrate on college.” He said

And what about Asher? You were really mad at him yesterday.I said

I know. That was before I knew the truth. Don’t worry about that now. Just take care of yourself. And Gage will be fine. He doesn’t know yet. I’m respecting what you said to Arlo. We’re not going to say anything. Not until you and Asher are ready for it.He said

Thank you. I appreciate that.I said

Don’t mention it. Just take care of yourself and don’t be a stranger. He said

I’ll try not to be.” I said

When I got off the phone I went back inside but everyone was working in every room so I headed up to my bedroom

I knew that the whole house would be finished by the end of work today, even the painting

Once I walked into my room I put my bag on the floor and I walked over to my desk where my

laptop was Someone had brought my stuff over from the packhouse, but there was something sitting next to the laptop that confused me

It was a black credit card with a note underneath it

Don’t argue with me on it. You deserve this. Buy whatever you want. The card is yours to keep

Asher

A credit card with no limit. Maybe he was trying to make up for yesterday when he didn’t say

anything to anyone

I don’t know

He couldn’t just be trying to be a good mate. I didn’t know what was going through his mind

anymore, which is another reason I needed to get out of there

Ever since I found out that he was my mate, my mind has been pulled in a million different

directions. I was always trying not to believe what my mother and brother said about me. But then

it was tough not to start believing it when Asher revealed that we were mates. When I saw him for

the first time when I was 18 and the bond snapped into place, I almost had a panic attack. I didn’t

want him to know what my family was doing to me. Little did I know that he already suspected what was going on. He just didn’t know the full extent of what my brother had done

I sat on the chair at the desk staring at the credit card that had my name on it and I wasn’t sure if

should actually keep it or if I should give it back

I looked over to the side of my room and realized that my wardrobe had been moved

I knew that it had been placed in front of the builtin wardrobe. I wasn’t allowed to use the big wardrobe because mom was a b***h. But now it was visible and I walked over and opened the

doors

It was empty but there was another note pinned to the inside of the door

This would be a good place to start with the credit card. Fill the wardrobe and finally buy clothes that you like. Not just ones that cover bruises. Spoil yourself for a change

Asher

I couldn’t help but actually smile at that note. He was actually trying to help me here. And I couldn’t

help but feel even closer to him for it

Damn it

I was trying to feel pretty neutral towards him right now but he was making it really f*****g hard

SUMMARY (~1000 Words in English)

Trinity was born into a werewolf pack where things seem perfect on the outside—strong leadership, pack unity, and loyalty. But Trinity knows better than anyone that the image doesn’t match reality. In this pack, if your family is respected and the Alpha favors you, life is comfortable. But some people learn how to manipulate, to hide their cruelty behind obedience, and Trinity’s own family happens to be experts at that.

After graduating high school, Trinity receives a full scholarship to a nearby college that accepts both humans and werewolves. For most wolves, that is a dream opportunity. But her parents refuse to let her leave the pack territory. They tell her she must remain at home, and Trinity has learned never to question their decisions. Disobedience is met with consequences—painful consequences.

She turned eighteen a few months ago, which technically makes her a legal adult allowed to live her life how she chooses. But Trinity knows her parents would involve the Alpha to block her from leaving, and she has no choice but to stay. The only thing she has independence in is her part-time job as a tutor at the local high school. She genuinely enjoys helping struggling kids—especially werewolf children who often have trouble focusing. The job pays, it gives her purpose, and it’s the one part of her life she feels proud of.

Trinity’s two closest friends are Gage and Arlo, twin brothers who happen to be the younger sons of the Alpha and Luna. She grew up with them, laughed with them, survived with them. They are her safe place—her reminder that not everyone in this pack is cruel. To everyone else, their friendship seems unusual: pack princes spending all their time with a girl outside the Alpha’s family line. People assume the relationship must be romantic. But the bond between Trinity, Gage, and Arlo is deeper than romance—they are family by choice.

One afternoon, after Trinity finishes tutoring, she meets the twins and they go out together like they always do—joking, teasing, and laughing at a local diner. The twins mention that they don’t want to be home tomorrow because someone important is returning. That person is Asher, their older brother—the future Alpha.

The moment Trinity hears his name, panic strikes her. Her heart races, her breathing tightens, but she hides it expertly. Asher’s return is something she has been dreading. There is a painful history between them—one that changed both their lives forever. Trinity knows Asher wouldn’t want to see her either, but she still fears what will happen when their paths cross again. His return means her carefully built emotional walls may crumble.

After spending the afternoon with the twins, Trinity returns home. But home isn’t safety. Home is punishment.

Her family is waiting.

Her father, mother, and older brother Spencer stand like judges preparing for a sentence Trinity has already memorized. She tries to turn away, but she knows resistance only makes things worse. They force her into the basement—the same basement where they punish her for something that happened years ago. Something they believe is entirely Trinity’s fault. Something she still insists was an accident.

They chain her arms overhead with silver restraints, burning her skin. Her mother selects a leather whip soaked in wolfsbane—ensuring that wounds heal slowly and painfully. The whip cracks across Trinity’s skin again and again. Blood forms. Pain radiates. But Trinity doesn’t scream. She refuses to give them the satisfaction.

When her mother grows tired, her brother Spencer steps forward wearing brass knuckles. He strikes her stomach repeatedly, anger controlling his fists. When he accidentally hits her face, their father lightly scolds him—not because of the pain inflicted, but because bruises on her face would raise suspicion at school.

Their cruelty is routine. Their words cut as sharply as the whip—accusing her of destroying their family, of being a burden, of being unwanted. Trinity has heard it all before. She has learned to respond not with tears, but with silence and defiance.

When they finally release her, Trinity cleans and dresses herself alone. Her body aches, her ribs feel possibly broken, burns mark her wrists, and bruises stain her skin. But she moves quietly through the world the next day—smiling when needed, talking to people, blending in. She has done it hundreds of times.

But the one thing she cannot ignore is the voice that wakes her through a mind link the next morning.

Asher.

His voice is steady, familiar, and filled with emotion she doesn’t want to face. Trinity shuts him out. Even her wolf, Lily, urges her to speak to him, arguing that Trinity hurt him too. But Trinity insists she did it for his sake. She had reasons—reasons no one knows.

After her long day at college, Trinity stops at a diner before returning home. There, two girls from high school—Ingrid and Rose—approach her. They always believed she was the reason the twins never paid attention to them. Jealousy taints their words. Trinity stays calm but firm. There’s nothing romantic between her and the twins—but if they used her name as an excuse to avoid shallow relationships, that’s not Trinity’s fault.

Trinity leaves the conversation with the same quiet strength she practices every day.

She survives.

Even when it hurts.

Even when she’s alone.

But Asher is back now.

And the past she tried to bury is coming with him.
