CHAPTER 66

I woke up to yelling. Sharp, angry voices cutting through the morning like claws. My heart jumped into my throat, and I bolted upright in bed. The packhouse was rarely this chaotic, even with the alpha around. And AsherI could feel the storm of his anger from down the hall, even before I got out of our room. It was twisting me in knots as well

I threw on my robe, ignoring the cold creeping through my bare feet as I made my way downstairs. Every step closer to the living room made my stomach twist tighter. Something

was very wrong

The yelling hit me fully the moment I reached the landing. Asher’s voiceloud, raw, unrestrainedclashed with the deep, commanding tones of his father. And then there was another voice, softer but with an edge I didn’t like at all. A voice I didn’t recognize…

Amy

I froze just outside the living room, leaning against the wall, listening

I’m telling you, father, she cannot stay here!Asher’s voice cracked with fury. You don’t understandshe’s trouble. Dangerous trouble!”

She’s under my protection, Asher.Dennis said, calm but firm, his tone leaving no room for argument. Whether you like it or not, she’s staying. That’s the end of it.”

I bit my lip. Dangerous trouble? My mind raced. Amy wasmy parentsdoing, I could feel it. She wasn’t here by accident. And why now? Why in our packhouse? My gut screamed that this wasn’t about hospitality or protectionit was a calculated move, and my parents were involved

I stepped into the room, drawing their attention. Asher’s head whipped toward me. His eyes were wild, stormy, and for the briefest second, they softenedbefore anger took over again

Why is she here?I demanded, my voice louder than I intended. Why are you here Amy? What did my parents promise you?I asked

Amy turned her head slowly toward me. She was calm, composed, almost too composed, like she’d been waiting for this moment. Her smile was slow, polite, but her eyesthey were sharp, calculating

Working for your parents? She said, tilting her head as if considering the question for the first time. I don’t know what you mean.”

I took a step closer, my anger rising. Don’t lie to me. Don’t pretend this isn’t exactly what it

looks like. You show up here now, in the middle of the packhouse, and suddenly Asher is losing his mind. You think I wouldn’t notice?”

Amy laughed softly, but it wasn’t warmit was a sharp, cold sound that made my skin crawl. You notice more than most. She said, almost like a compliment, though it felt like a warning. But I’m not here for your parents. I came on my own.”

Asher growled low in his chest, a warning rumble that vibrated against my ribs. Don’t listen to her.He snapped. She’s lying. Everything she says is a lie!”

I turned to him, frustration boiling over. Then tell me why! Stop hiding things! What is she doing here that makes you thisthis furious?”

His face tightened. His jaw clenched so hard I thought I could hear it. II can’t.” He said finally, his voice low, dangerous. “Not yet. But trust meshe’s bad news. Stay away from her.”

I wanted to scream at him. I wanted to shake him until he told me everything, but something in his expression made me pause. He wasn’t hiding out of fear of mehe was hiding for my safety. And that made my blood run colder than any anger ever could

Amy’s smile didn’t waver, but it didn’t reach her eyes. You should really be more careful who you accuse. She said softly. “Not everyone in this house is as loyal as they seem.”

Her words were a knife, slicing through the tension in the room. I glanced at Dennis, who was standing just behind Asher. His arms were crossed, his expression unreadable. He didn’t intervene, but I could see the glint of pride in his eyespride that Asher was standing his ground

I clenched my fists. My instincts screamed at me to trust Asher. But Amythere was something about her I couldn’t ignore. I had to know the truth

Enough games.I said. You’re not leaving until you tell me exactly why you’re here. And

want the truth.”

Amy tilted her head again, eyes glinting. And if I don’t?She asked, her voice soft, almost mocking

I stepped forward, closing the distance between us. Then I’ll find out anyway. You can’t hide from me.”

She laughed, light and almost musical, but it was cold. Bold. She said. I like that. But bold doesn’t always mean safe.”

I ignored her words. My pulse was racing, a mix of fear and determination. My eyes flicked toward Asher, who was still watching, still seething. I knew he wanted to intervene, to do

more than just growl warnings. But he was restrained bysomething. By rules, by respect for his fatheror maybe by fear of what would happen if he acted too soon

Dennis finally spoke, his voice calm but carrying weight. That’s enough. Amy is under my protection. You will respect that, Asher. And you.He said, turning to me, need to stay out of adult matters you don’t fully understand.”

I swallowed hard, but I didn’t back down. I understand more than you think. And I don’t care about your protection. I’m not letting her manipulate me. Just like she’s doing to you.”

Amy’s smile widened, and for a second, it felt like she was enjoying the confrontation, like this chaos was exactly what she wanted. We’ll see.She said, almost teasingly

Asher suddenly stepped in front of me, his body tense, blocking me from Amy. Stay back.” He said, low and warning. No matter what you think, she’s dangerous. Don’t get close.”

I stared at him, frustration mingling with fear. I wanted answers, and I wanted them nowbut he refused to give me even the smallest piece of the truth. He was holding it back, and I could feel it twisting in the pit of my stomach

Amy took a deliberate step closer, ignoring Asher entirely. She looked at me, her expression softening for a heartbeat, almost sympatheticbut I could see the malice hiding behind it. You’re smart. She said. Too smart for your own good. That might get you killed.”

Asher growled, a warning, but she didn’t flinch. My blood ran cold. She wasn’t afraid of him- not even a little. That realization made my skin prickle. She wasn’t just dangerousshe was

fearless

For a moment, the room was silent, charged with tension. Every breath felt heavy. I wanted to scream at Asher, at Dennis, at Amywanting someone to tell me the truth, to make sense of the storm raging in the house

And then Amy’s eyes met mine again. You’re going to find out soon enough. She whispered, a smirk tugging at her lips. But not from me. Not yet.”

Before I could react, she turned on her heel and walked toward the stairs leading to the guest rooms. Her movements were smooth, confident, deliberate. Every step felt like a statement: she was here to stay

I clenched my fists, my nails digging into my palms. Asher’s jaw was tight, his breathing heavy. Dennisgaze was unreadable. And Amyshe disappeared up the stairs, leaving a trail of unease behind her

I wanted to follow her. I wanted to demand the truth. But I knew betterwhatever secrets she held, whatever games she was playing, rushing in would only make things worse

I can’t.I said, my voice barely more than a whisper. Not when I know she’s lying. Not when I know my parents are involved.”

He hesitated, then gave me a look that made my stomach knot. Then promise me you’ll be careful. He said, voice tense, strained. Because once you touch thisonce you start pulling at her, there’s no turning back. You don’t know what you’re dealing with.”

I swallowed hard. I’ll be careful.” I said, though neither of us believed it

And then a sound from the stairsa single, deliberate click of high heels on woodmade both of us freeze. Amy had stopped, turned her head slightly, and smiled. That smileit was calm, almost serene, but it carried a weight, a threat I couldn’t ignore

You’ll see me soon. She said, her voice echoing slightly. And then you’ll understand why I’m

here.”

And just like that, she was gone

The room felt emptier without her presence, yet heavier with the tension she left behind. I glanced at Asher, who ran a hand through his hair, exhaling sharply

Whatever she iswhatever she’s planningHe muttered, we’re not ready for it.”

Well, your father just let me know where I stand around here.” I snapped

What do you mean?Dennis asked

You won’t need to worry about me any longer. Looks like you’ve chosen the daughter you want in this house. And it’s not me.I said turning around and walking back up the stairs

SUMMARY (~1000 Words in English)

Trinity was born into a werewolf pack where things seem perfect on the outside—strong leadership, pack unity, and loyalty. But Trinity knows better than anyone that the image doesn’t match reality. In this pack, if your family is respected and the Alpha favors you, life is comfortable. But some people learn how to manipulate, to hide their cruelty behind obedience, and Trinity’s own family happens to be experts at that.

After graduating high school, Trinity receives a full scholarship to a nearby college that accepts both humans and werewolves. For most wolves, that is a dream opportunity. But her parents refuse to let her leave the pack territory. They tell her she must remain at home, and Trinity has learned never to question their decisions. Disobedience is met with consequences—painful consequences.

She turned eighteen a few months ago, which technically makes her a legal adult allowed to live her life how she chooses. But Trinity knows her parents would involve the Alpha to block her from leaving, and she has no choice but to stay. The only thing she has independence in is her part-time job as a tutor at the local high school. She genuinely enjoys helping struggling kids—especially werewolf children who often have trouble focusing. The job pays, it gives her purpose, and it’s the one part of her life she feels proud of.

Trinity’s two closest friends are Gage and Arlo, twin brothers who happen to be the younger sons of the Alpha and Luna. She grew up with them, laughed with them, survived with them. They are her safe place—her reminder that not everyone in this pack is cruel. To everyone else, their friendship seems unusual: pack princes spending all their time with a girl outside the Alpha’s family line. People assume the relationship must be romantic. But the bond between Trinity, Gage, and Arlo is deeper than romance—they are family by choice.

One afternoon, after Trinity finishes tutoring, she meets the twins and they go out together like they always do—joking, teasing, and laughing at a local diner. The twins mention that they don’t want to be home tomorrow because someone important is returning. That person is Asher, their older brother—the future Alpha.

The moment Trinity hears his name, panic strikes her. Her heart races, her breathing tightens, but she hides it expertly. Asher’s return is something she has been dreading. There is a painful history between them—one that changed both their lives forever. Trinity knows Asher wouldn’t want to see her either, but she still fears what will happen when their paths cross again. His return means her carefully built emotional walls may crumble.

After spending the afternoon with the twins, Trinity returns home. But home isn’t safety. Home is punishment.

Her family is waiting.

Her father, mother, and older brother Spencer stand like judges preparing for a sentence Trinity has already memorized. She tries to turn away, but she knows resistance only makes things worse. They force her into the basement—the same basement where they punish her for something that happened years ago. Something they believe is entirely Trinity’s fault. Something she still insists was an accident.

They chain her arms overhead with silver restraints, burning her skin. Her mother selects a leather whip soaked in wolfsbane—ensuring that wounds heal slowly and painfully. The whip cracks across Trinity’s skin again and again. Blood forms. Pain radiates. But Trinity doesn’t scream. She refuses to give them the satisfaction.

When her mother grows tired, her brother Spencer steps forward wearing brass knuckles. He strikes her stomach repeatedly, anger controlling his fists. When he accidentally hits her face, their father lightly scolds him—not because of the pain inflicted, but because bruises on her face would raise suspicion at school.

Their cruelty is routine. Their words cut as sharply as the whip—accusing her of destroying their family, of being a burden, of being unwanted. Trinity has heard it all before. She has learned to respond not with tears, but with silence and defiance.

When they finally release her, Trinity cleans and dresses herself alone. Her body aches, her ribs feel possibly broken, burns mark her wrists, and bruises stain her skin. But she moves quietly through the world the next day—smiling when needed, talking to people, blending in. She has done it hundreds of times.

But the one thing she cannot ignore is the voice that wakes her through a mind link the next morning.

Asher.

His voice is steady, familiar, and filled with emotion she doesn’t want to face. Trinity shuts him out. Even her wolf, Lily, urges her to speak to him, arguing that Trinity hurt him too. But Trinity insists she did it for his sake. She had reasons—reasons no one knows.

After her long day at college, Trinity stops at a diner before returning home. There, two girls from high school—Ingrid and Rose—approach her. They always believed she was the reason the twins never paid attention to them. Jealousy taints their words. Trinity stays calm but firm. There’s nothing romantic between her and the twins—but if they used her name as an excuse to avoid shallow relationships, that’s not Trinity’s fault.

Trinity leaves the conversation with the same quiet strength she practices every day.

She survives.

Even when it hurts.

Even when she’s alone.

But Asher is back now.

And the past she tried to bury is coming with him.
