Velvet Nights and Broken Vows 9 Summary
Sophia is about to lash out at Ethan when Chloe suddenly appears from the backseat, removing a large diamond ring and addressing Sophia with a calm but cutting tone. Chloe claims that she and Ethan are spiritual soulmates and insists Sophia should not interfere with their relationship. Sophia, bitter and disbelieving, demands the ring from Ethan, who eagerly tries to put it on her finger, but she violently yanks it off and confronts Chloe.
In a shocking display of anger, Sophia grabs Chloe by the throat and forces the ring into her mouth, causing Chloe to choke and panic. Sophia then slaps and kicks Chloe, retaliating for Chloe’s earlier attempt to cause her a miscarriage. Chloe collapses, hurt and tearful, and threatens to report Sophia to the police for assault. However, Ethan responds coldly, reprimanding Chloe for dirtying the ring and pushing her back down, leaving Chloe stunned and helpless.
Ethan then turns to Sophia with a pleading tone, offering to buy her a new ring and promising marriage, trying to win her back. Leo intervenes, firmly telling Ethan to stop clinging to Sophia and making things harder for her. Despite Ethan’s persistence and promises to marry Sophia immediately, she rejects him with disgust, declaring their relationship over forever.
As Sophia firmly states that they will never be together again, Ethan’s anger flares, and he storms toward her, setting the stage for further conflict. The chapter highlights intense emotions, power struggles, and the breakdown of relationships among Sophia, Ethan, and Chloe.
Just as I was about to unleash a string of curses, branding him a complete psycho, Chloe suddenly emerged from the backseat of the car.
She hesitated as she removed the enormous diamond ring from her finger, the delicate box shaped like a seashell in her hand. Then, looking at me with an almost innocent expression, she spoke softly:
“Sophia, I heard you had an abortion… How could you be so reckless, my dear sister? Ethan and I are just spiritual soulmates. You’re the woman he truly loves. From now on, don’t be foolish and let my presence interfere with your relationship with him.”
“Spiritual soulmate,” I repeated bitterly in my mind. What a ridiculous phrase.
After a long, tense silence as I stared at Ethan, I finally spoke in a flat, emotionless voice: “Give me the ring.”
At my words, Ethan’s face lit up with joy, and he immediately released my hand.
In the next moment, as he eagerly fumbled to place the ring on my finger, I yanked it off and stormed toward Chloe. Before she could even react, I wrapped my hand tightly around her throat and shoved the ring hard into her mouth.
No one ever expected that I — the quiet, reserved Sophia — could become so fierce and cold when truly enraged.
For a brief instant, even I wondered if I wanted to hurt Chloe beyond repair.
Chloe’s eyes widened in shock, almost as if they might pop out of their sockets, but she couldn’t pull away the hand covering her mouth.
“Ugh! Cough, cough… help… help me… It’s stuck in my throat…”
The terrifying sensation of choking on something sharp quickly brought tears streaming down her cheeks, mingling with snot as she struggled to breathe.
To “help” her out of this predicament, I slapped her hard across the face a dozen times, alternating left and right.
When her face swelled and she grew dizzy, I delivered a brutal kick to her stomach.
That kick was my payback for when she tried to scare me into having a miscarriage — with a snake, no less.
Chloe crumpled to the ground, clutching her bruised belly, sweat beading on her forehead from the pain. Her hair was disheveled, and she gagged a few times before finally spitting out the diamond ring, still undigested.
“So — Sophia, you crazy bitch…” she sobbed, tears still flowing. “I’m going to report you to the police for assault!”
She glared at me with venom, then, tears in her eyes, turned toward Ethan, desperate to throw herself into his arms and beg him to call the authorities.
But to her utter shock, Ethan frowned deeply and shoved her back down to the ground.
Then, in a cold, irritated voice, he scolded her for dirtying the engagement ring he had painstakingly chosen.
Chloe was left utterly stunned.
Dazed and ringing from the slaps, she barely registered Ethan’s words as he spoke to me with a groveling, eager-to-please tone:
“Sophia, I know you’re a germaphobe. This ring has been contaminated by an insignificant outsider. You definitely won’t want it anymore. It’s fine — I’ll take you to buy a new wedding ring right now.”
Ethan reached out to me again, mumbling to himself, but this time Leo was quicker. He pulled me behind him and shot Ethan a cold glare as he said firmly:
“Sophia is done with you. Stop clinging to her like a leech and making things harder for her.”
Ignoring Leo’s presence, Ethan’s eyes remained locked on me without a single blink:
“Sophia, come here, okay? If you just come over, I’ll promise you anything. You’ve always wanted to get married, haven’t you? We can go to City Hall and get married tomorrow.”
I took a step back, my face twisted with disgust.
“Ethan, I’m telling you for the last time — we’re over. I will never marry you in this lifetime, not in the next, and not ever again. We can never be together.”
No sooner had the words left my mouth than Ethan stormed toward me, rage flashing in his eyes.
