Ryan’s friends even came up to me in front of the library, sneering as they said, “Joan, you can’t be too selfish. Sometimes, you have to let things go.” 

I couldn’t be bothered to respond to these people. 

It was Shane, though, who stopped to speak to me when he saw me outside the library again.

“Why me?” I asked.

I hadn’t expected him to pay that much attention to me. “Alright, I’ll join.” 

I needed something to distract myself and keep busy. This project was the perfect opportunity.

Dad and my brothers must have realized that cold treatment wasn’t working on me, so they began changing

I hung up the phone and immediately called a cab, rushing home. 

On the way, my heart twisted painfully. When I arrived at the house, I saw movers carrying the white grand 

piano out of the front door.
