Threads of Fading Memory – K. S. Whitman 4 Summary

Thalia types a message, declaring she will never show up in front of Damon again after he said her scent made him sick. Damon responds harshly, reminding her that she used to obey him and warning her to stay away from Raven, threatening consequences if she doesn’t. Thalia bitterly agrees to leave and ends the call.

Meanwhile, Thalia receives responses to her job applications, and one from a pharmaceutical company in the nearby Cinderscorch pack excites her the most. She quickly schedules an interview, and when offered the position, she accepts eagerly, ready to start a new chapter in her life.

Before she can say goodbye, Damon calls, inviting her to dinner with his parents. At Shadowmire Manor, as Thalia packs, Raven appears tearful and desperate, begging Thalia to give Damon back because she’s carrying his pup. Raven suddenly grabs Thalia’s hand, presses it to her shoulder, and then falls down the stairs, screaming in pain with blood staining her dress.

Damon rushes out, furious, slaps Thalia, and accuses her of hurting Raven without reason. The Alpha and Luna arrive as Damon continues to berate Thalia, calling her unfit to be the future Luna. Thalia calmly points to surveillance cameras, insisting the truth will come out and declares she is no longer the pack’s next Luna. She turns to leave, carrying her luggage, ignoring Damon’s shouted questions. Without looking back, Thalia walks away, accepting Damon’s rejection and stepping into an uncertain future.

I kept my fingers moving over the keyboard, the words flowing out in a steady stream. “You said my scent made you sick, so I left. I won’t show up in front of you ever again.”

His breathing grew uneven, ragged, and his voice suddenly turned sharp and cold as he snapped back, “What the hell are you trying to do? You used to cling to me, obeying every command. So if I told you to leave the pack, would you?”

A warning laced his tone, thick with menace. “I’m telling you, stay the hell away from Raven, or I swear you’ll pay the price.”

I couldn’t help but laugh, a bitter sound. “Fine, I understand. I’ll leave.”

With that, I ended the call without another word.

Responses to the résumés I’d sent out began trickling in.

Among them, the one that made my heart race was from a pharmaceutical company based in the nearby Cinderscorch pack—a major enterprise operating under the Coghaven umbrella.

I didn’t hesitate to schedule an interview immediately.

In my previous life, I had dreamed countless times of landing a well-paying, respectable job, but the chance never came. Now, nerves and excitement churned inside me in equal measure.

When they offered me the position, I accepted without hesitation. Tomorrow, I would finally begin this new chapter.

Before I could even gather my thoughts on how to say my goodbyes, my phone buzzed with a call from Damon. I paused, unsure whether to answer.

His usual cold, clipped voice came through. “My parents are back. They want you to join us for dinner.”

As twilight settled over the horizon, I made my way back to Shadowmire Manor.

In my room, I packed away the last few belongings I’d overlooked. Just as I turned to leave, Raven appeared in the doorway.

Her eyes glistened with tears, her voice trembling as she begged, “Please, Thalia… give Damon back to me. I’m carrying his pup. A pup shouldn’t grow up without a father.”

I caught the faintest sneer tugging at the corner of her lips, and instinctively, I took a step back.

Without warning, she grabbed my hand, pressed it against her shoulder, then fell backward toward the stairs.

“Thalia!” she cried out, her voice cracking.

Suddenly, she screamed, “It hurts!!”

She tumbled down the stairs, her dress quickly stained with blood, her agonized screams echoing through the manor’s halls.

Damon burst out of his study, eyes bloodshot, taking in the chaotic scene. Without hesitation, he lunged forward, slapping me hard across the face.

“Have you lost your fucking mind? Why would you hurt her for no reason?”

The Alpha and Luna rushed in after hearing the commotion, while Raven’s wails of pain filled the air.

Damon raised his claw and struck me again, roaring, “Father! Mother! Look at her! She’s not fit to be the future Luna of this pack!”

“Apologize right now, or I’ll never forgive you! And I won’t let you take your place as the next Luna!”

I met Damon’s furious gaze without flinching. Pointing toward the surveillance cameras, I said, “The truth will speak for itself. And don’t worry—starting now, I’m no longer the pack’s next Luna.”

“There’s footage that proves everything.”

Having said my piece, I turned and began descending the stairs.

Only then did Damon notice the luggage in my hands. From the second floor, he shouted, “Where are you going?”

Goodbye, Damon.

Without me, go ahead and be happy with that vicious she-wolf.

I’m waiting for the day you see the side of her she’s been hiding all along.

“I, Thalia Emberwood, accept your rejection, Damon Hale.”

Goodbye, Damon.

Without looking back, I stepped out of the villa and into whatever awaited me beyond.
