Chapter 295

KESTER

The dog lunged forward, barkinguntil I looked at it

With just a glance, its body froze midgrowl. The hackles on its back still raised, but its eyesthose loyal, trusting, stupid eyes- went glassy

It stared into me as if recognizing something ancient and stronger. Then it whimpered, backed away, and sat obediently

Good boy,I murmured as I stepped inside, brushing dust off my jacket sleeve

The air inside was too warm. Melissa had been baking somethingcookies, maybe. Something sweet and safe and homemade

I inhaled it like perfume

I strolled into the living room like I owned it. The couch was plush and gray with a throw blanket neatly folded over the armrest. i sat down, crossing one leg over the other, elbows spread wide across the backrest, claiming the space

Melissa,I called out calmly. Bring the kids. Let’s all sit together. I’ve had a long day. Don’t be rude.”

There was no response at first as they all stood frozen in the dining area

Then, slowly, Melissa appeared first. Her face was pale, lips trembling, hands shaking by her sides. Behind her was her husband, holding the little girl, and the boy just behind them, clutching the hem of his dad’s shirt

The room was so quiet I could hear the dog’s tail thump once against the floor before it stopped

There we go,I said with a smile, gesturing to the couch. Come on. Sit with me. Let’s be a family tonight.”

Melissa didn’t move

Neither did the kids

I tilted my head at the little boy. You. What’s your name?”

He didn’t answer

I asked you a question.”

His lips quivered. Jamie.”

Jamie,I repeated, tasting the name on my tongue. Come sit beside me, Jamie. Don’t be shy

Melissa gasped and stepped forward. Please, she said, barely above a whisper. Don’t involve them. Alpha, please. Whatever this is, just take it up with me.”

I didn’t respond. I slowly pulled up my phone to see who was calling at this crucial moment

Kasmine..

Fuck. Wrong timing

Chapter 295

I didn’t answer anyway. She was probably calling to complain about something else again

I’ll deal with her later

By the time I lifted my eyes again, Melissa’s husband was already on his knees, Alpha, please,he whispered, his voice cracking under the strain of terror, I know you wouldn’t be here if I hadn’t offended you. I am ready to bear the consequences. But my childrenMy wifepleasehave mercy.”

I looked at him with amusement. He thought I was there for him? How pathetic

He was actually trembling, lips dry, eyes watery like a kicked mutt trying to save its pups. His hands were clasped like he thought I was God, and prayer could save him

Disgusting

I turned to Melissa again, smiling wider. Go get dressed, will you? Something nice. We’re going for a walk

There was a small pause as if she was contemplating her next words or actions. Then, suddenly, she busted into fresh sobs

II never meant to tell her. SheShe kept insisting andTears carved tracks down her face, and for a brief, vicious moment, I had the urge to trace those tracks with my claws and watch the tears turn to blood

I swear, I’m sorry, Alpha. She choked, going down on her knees

Her husband looked at her with terror and realization

You offended the Alpha? He asked her, and she only gave a small nod. Fuck.”

I watched them with satisfaction as they realized how much trouble they were in

My phone chimed with a text, and I looked at the screen. It was Kasmine. She had called four times, and now she was sending

text

Something in me shifted. I grew a bit worried

I swiftly unlocked the screen

Call me, Kester. It is urgent. Please.”

Urgent

My heart gave a traitorous thump

Everythingthe fear, the tension, the perfectly constructed moment of despair I had createdblurred around the edges like fog creeping over a mirror

I felt fear. Real, chesttightening, gutwrenching fear

I called her immediately, and thankfully, she picked up

What is wrong, baby? Are you hurt?I rushed, eager to hear her voice and know she was okay

My fingers tightened around the phone. I didn’t even realize I’d stood up. My breath caught like it didn’t know whether to keep going or just stop altogether

Chapter 295

There was a pause

And then, in the softest voice I’d ever heard from herthe voice that always reached into the beast in me and tamed it with one gentle breathshe said, Kester don’t hurt her.”

I froze

The room behind me didn’t matter anymore. None of it meant shit now

Because she had spoken

It was my fault, she continued in a broken voice. Pleasedon’t take it out on her. I’m the one who made her tell me. She didn’t mean to do anything wrong. She justA hitch in her breath. she was just trying to help me because I compelled her to.”

There was silence

And it burned

And suddenly, I wasn’t in that house anymore

I was trapped in her voice

I closed my eyes. The phone was hot against my ear, or maybe it was my skin that was fevered. My fingers twitched at my side like they didn’t know what to do anymore

I’m busy now, baby. I’ll be home soon.I said in a gruff voice

Because I knew Kasmine, and I knew how dangerous it was to let her keep talking. She’d say just the right words. She’d unravel everything I’d spent hours tying tight

And I was right

Because right before I could end the call, she said one more thing-

Kester. If you love me like you say you dodon’t hurt Melissa. Please.”

I felt something splinter in my chest, like old wood

Goddamn it

She could undo me anytime she wanted. She held so much power over me, and I didn’t know if I should be happy or worried about

I turned around slowly and took in the sight of the family again, and rage burned through me

Kester?She whimpered

Fuck

She was crying. Fuck

My breath left me in a single, shuddering exhale

I’m on my way home, baby.”

I took one step back

Then another. And another

I stared at Melissa like I wanted to burn a hole straight through her and yes, I did. But I didn’t dare touch her

I just turnedand walked away

My Stepbrother

Synopsis : My Stepbrother

Kasmine’s world shattered the night she witnessed her stepbrother, Kester Hamilton—the Alpha of the Crescent Moon Pack—murder an innocent man in cold blood. What began as a normal evening in the woods turned into a nightmare that would haunt her forever. The man Kester killed was no threat; he had only been talking to Kasmine. Yet Kester justified the murder by claiming the man tried to force himself on her.

Trembling and terrified, Kasmine confronted him, refusing to believe his twisted explanation. But Kester’s demeanor remained disturbingly calm. He didn’t show an ounce of remorse. Instead, he scolded her for being dramatic and tried to drag her back to the party, as if nothing had happened. When she resisted, he unleashed his Alpha command—a power no wolf could defy. Under his control, Kasmine’s will crumbled, and she obeyed him like a puppet.

As she returned to the party—ironically, Kester’s girlfriend’s birthday celebration—Kasmine’s heart broke. The brother who once protected her now scared her more than anyone else.

Her mind drifted back to her childhood, to the days when Kester had been her hero. After her father’s death, her mother remarried Alpha Kade Hamilton, Kester’s father. At the time, Kester was fourteen and Kasmine was only seven. He took her under his wing, treating her like a precious little sister. He brought her gifts, defended her from bullies, and made her feel safe. To everyone around them, Kester was the perfect big brother.

But as Kasmine grew older, that “protectiveness” became something else—something dark and possessive. By the time she turned sixteen, Kester had started isolating her from others. He didn’t allow her to have male friends, and even her time with female friends was limited. He wanted her attention, her trust, and her presence—all to himself. It became suffocating.

Now, at twenty years old, Kasmine had no boyfriend and barely any social life. Every time she tried to rebel, Kester reminded her that she should wait for her fated mate when she turned twenty-one and got her wolf. Her parents saw his control as love and protection, never suspecting how toxic and obsessive it had become.

After witnessing the murder, Kasmine was emotionally destroyed. She couldn’t eat, sleep, or think straight. The image of the lifeless man haunted her. Luckily, she only had to see Kester on weekends, since he was busy running both his pack and his billion-dollar company—Zamford Technologies. But even from a distance, his control continued. He had bugged her phone and laptop, monitoring every message and call. There was no escaping his watchful eyes.

Trying to focus on her studies, Kasmine pushed herself to attend her final year of college. She was preparing for her internship, and for once, she felt hopeful. She had submitted three company choices, deliberately avoiding Zamford Technologies to stay away from Kester. Her best friend, Jake—a guy she secretly liked—had applied to the same companies. She dreamed of being placed in the same one as him. Maybe then, away from Kester’s shadow, she could experience normal life, maybe even love.

That morning, she rushed to campus, still hopeful about the internship results. At the school entrance, she met her best friend, Claire, who looked visibly upset. Claire confessed she had been posted to J&F Technologies. Her disappointment wasn’t about the company—it was about Kester. Claire had nursed a crush on him for years and had listed Zamford Technologies in hopes of working near him. But her wish had failed, and she’d lost her chance.

Trying to comfort her, Kasmine asked about her own posting. Strangely, Claire didn’t answer, avoiding her eyes. Confused but impatient, Kasmine dragged her to the information board. Her heart raced as she scanned the list, looking first for Jake’s name. He was placed at Plush Technologies—one of the options they’d chosen together.

Excited, she searched for her name next, praying to see it under the same company. But her excitement quickly turned to dread. Her hands trembled. Her breath caught in her throat. There, beside her name, was written: Zamford Technologies.

The world seemed to tilt around her.

It couldn’t be real. There had to be some mistake. How could she, of all people, end up at her stepbrother’s company—the very place she’d tried hardest to avoid? Panic rose in her chest as the realization sank in. Kester must have done this. Somehow, he had found a way to manipulate her placement, ensuring that even in her professional life, she couldn’t escape his grasp.

Her mind flashed back to his piercing green eyes, his dominating voice, the way he’d ordered her around after committing murder without remorse. Now, he would have full control over her again—for hours every day. There would be no hiding, no breathing space.

As she stood frozen before the board, Kasmine felt her fragile hope for freedom crumble. She had spent years yearning for the day she could make her own choices—turn twenty-one, find her fated mate, and escape Kester’s suffocating hold. But now, destiny—or rather, Kester’s manipulation—had pulled her right back into his world.

And deep down, she feared that this time, she might not make it out alive.

Themes and Tone:
“The Alpha’s Obsession” explores the darkness behind overprotective love, the trauma of control disguised as care, and the pain of being trapped by someone who claims to love you. The tone is tense, emotional, and suspenseful, building a deep sense of dread as Kasmine realizes that every path she takes leads her back to the same monster she once called “brother.”
