Chapter 169
Carter’s POV
1 froze, surprised by this information. In all the intelligence I’d gathered about Rachel, I’d never heard anything about her mother.
Though I maintained my disbelieving expression, I mentally noted to investigate Daniel’s claims, particularly regarding Rachel’s possible rate Alpha finess
If Rachel carries such valuable bloodlines, her child–Nathan’s child–would be even more powerful thart I anticipated.
I grabbed Daniel’s hair, forcing him to look into my eyes. “Listen carefully, you will take this money and leave Eclipse immediately. You will never approach Rachel again. If I ever hear your name mentioned, the next person who sees you will only be able to identify your corpse by scent. Got it?”
Daniel’s eyes widened in terror. “Y–yes,” he stammered. ‘I’ll go. You’ll never see me again.”
I took the stack of cash Lucas handed me and stuffed it into Daniel’s shirt pocket. While I hated giving him anything, if this was how Rachel wanted to handle the situation, I would respect her wishes. It was the least I could do for her.
I walked out of the warehouse, the night breeze cooling the rage burning through my body.
“Take him to the border immediately, I ordered my warriors. “I don’t care where he goes after that, just make sure he leaves our territory. Give him enough money for a one–way trip and ensure he never returns. If he ever appears in Eclipse territory again, execute him on sight. No questions, no permission
needed.
I noticed Lucas wasn’t among them, but he soon emerged from the other side of the doorway. I gestured for the others to leave, creating privacy for our conversation.
“What’s the latest from the border?” I asked, sensing he had news.
Lucas’s expression darkened. “The border villages were attacked. We’ve lost several outposts. Other packs have been forced to change their patrol routes. Our mind–link communications were blocked until just now.”
I clenched my jaw, realizing I had underestimated my half–brother Nathan. He hadn’t been trying to escape–he’d been using himself as bait. Nathan had successfully escaped and reached the border, and we’d lost strategic positions.
‘How did he escape?” I demanded.
“The secret tunnel, Alpha,” Lucas replied solemnly.
‘From now on, all secret passages are to be monitored continuously,” I ordered, my voice sharp with anger. “Anyone unauthorized is to be killed on sight.”
Though things hadn’t gone as planned, I wasn’t defeated. I always had contingency plans. A thought suddenly struck
- me.
“Lucas,” I said, “send someone to investigate Pine Ridge pack. I want to know more about Rachel’s family history, especially regarding her mother. I’m increasingly curious about what special bloodline she might possess.”
As we walked back to the car, my thoughts returned to Rachel. I would keep her safe, no matter what.
Nathan may have escaped this time, but the war is far from over. And Rachel… Rachel will eventually see that I’m the one who truly cares for her. Not the man who planned to kill her after she gave birth.
The morning sun filtered through the blinds as I drummed my fingers against the surface of my desk. Lucas stood in front of me, his pure rigid as always, but there was something in his eyes.
“What is it, Lucas?” I asked, leaning back in my chair.
“Two things, sir,” he began, maintaining his professional tone. ‘First, Daniel has been dealt with. I received confirmation this morning that he’s reached his
final destination.”
I nodded with satisfaction. “Good. What else?”

“Second, we’ve confirmed Nathan has returned to Emerald City.”
My jaw tightened at the mention of his name.
Lucas settled into the chair across from me, his eyes questioning. I believe we might have some other unfinished business to attend to?
I knew exactly what he meant. Rachel’s stepmother–that vile woman–needed to be handled, Lucas had reported her activities to me, and it was time to ensure she wouldn’t cross any lines.
With an irritated sigh, I pulled open my desk drawer and retrieved a sheet of stationery. I picked up the pen resting on my desk.
Lucas raised an eyebrow. “You’re not going to use the backup phone to call him?”
I shook my head. “This is safer. I know who will handle this. No one will interfere.”
Lucas fell silent as I began writing. My pen moved across the paper with purpose, each word carefully chosen. When I finished, I folded the paper and handed it to him.
