Chapter 209
I nodded my understanding.
“Now, Caspian continued, his expression shifting to something lighter, “there’s something I’d like to share with those of you who don’t yet know.”
He glanced around the tent, and I noticed many seemed already pleased about whatever news was coming.
With unmistakable joy, Caspian announced, “For those who haven’t heard–our princess has returned!”
*Princess?” I blinked in confusion.
Caspian Reed nodded, smiling. “Yes, our princess—your friend!”
My eyes widened in disbelief as realization dawned. “Rachel? She’s alive? And she’s here?!”
“She’s with the High Priestess, Reed confirmed.
The news hit me like a thunderbolt. That’s why Reed specifically chose me for the supply mission–he knew Rachel was there. Tears welled in my eyes as relief and excitement surged through me. Rachel was alive! But what had happened to her? And the baby–was the child safe?
The tent erupted in celebration at the news of Rachel’s return. People were chattering excitedly about how she would save them all.
“General, are you certain?” someone questioned. “We’ve been searching for her for years!”
An older woman’s voice cut through the noise. “Yes, I can confirm it is her.”
Everyone turned toward the speaker.
“Wise One Selena! You’ve returned!” someone exclaimed.
General Reed gestured toward her. “Selena can answer your questions.” The two exchanged friendly greetings, clearly well–acquainted.
“What is she like?‘ someone asked eagerly.
Selena smiled serenely. “I know many of you wonder about our princess, and I want to assure you that she is everything we could hope for. She is kind, loving, compassionate. She possesses all the qualities of the queens before her, and
more.”
“Will she change the outcome of the war? What are her plans?” another voice called out. “Will she join us on the frontlines to kill these rogues?”
“Yes,” Selena answered confidently. “She will do all that and more.” She continued discussing battle plans and rebuilding the kingdom.
I wondered what Rachel would be like after all this time. The last time I’d seen her, she’d been pregnant and terrified.
Now, somehow, she had become a beacon of hope for these people.
The crowd grew more enthusiastic, showering Rachel with praise and expectations.
“Yes, our princess will save us!”
Her blood will heal the wounded and strengthen our army!”
I frowned at the mention of “blood,” but decided this wasn’t the place to inquire further.
A dark–haired man stood up. “Now that our queen has returned to her people, we should seek her guidance before advancing further toward the border. Murmurs of agreement, followed.
“With our queen leading us, victory is assured!”

We will build an empire that will never fallt.
The ancient kingdom will rise again, and the rightful rulers of the East will be restored!”
My confusion deepened with each proclamation. This didn’t sound like the Rachel I knew–gentle, kind Rachel who would never start a war without caur
“Wait… what? I muttered under my breath.
The Rachel I knew was gentle and kind. She would never start a senseless war.
And she definitely wouldn’t appreciate others making decisions for her or being manipulated–that was why she had left her brother in the first place.
“Excuse me,” I said loudly, cutting through the excited chatter. ‘Does Rachel know about your plans?”
All eyes turned to me.
“What do you mean?” Selena asked, her serene expression faltering slightly.
I repeated my question clearly, “Does Rachel know that you plan to make her queen and involve her in a war?”
Selena lifted her chin, studying me with newfound interest. “Why wouldn’t she? She is the rightful ruler. She wouldn’t abandon her people.”
I raised an eyebrow, thinking of my friend.
Rachel was loyal, yes, but she had been through so much already. I didn’t want to see her forced into another situation she hadn’t chosen.
But I also believed that if Rachel chose this path, she would be an exceptional leader.
I just wanted to make sure it was Rachel’s choice.
“If you truly respect her as your queen,” I said with a careful smile, “shouldn’t you discuss these plans with Rachel before assuming what she’ll do?”
