Chapter 226
Nathan’s POV
Even before I saw Rachel, the scent of her blood invaded
my nostrils.
“Oh God, no…
please, no,” I stammered, my voice shaking.
When I spotted her lying in a pool of blood, a fear like nothing I’d ever known gripped me.
Two wolves were still mauling her, while my son wailed hysterically in her arms!
I stumbled forward, my hands trembling uncontrollably. ‘Rachel!” I screamed, my thoughts scattered everywhere.
NO!!!
Rage surged, a molten tide in my veins. My body shir
Ones cracking, fur sprouting, as I became the wolf.
With a guttural snarl, I lunged, jaws snapping shut on the first wolf’s throat, blood spraying hot and coppery. Its yelp choked off as I tore through sinew.
The second barely turned before my fangs sank into its neck, crunching bone.
In one fluid motion, I flung their limp, broken bodies aside, their blood staining my muzzle, my heart pounding with primal fury.
My eyes fixed on Rachel’s broken form, her copper hair matted with blood.
My love.
Sorry, I’m late.
I approached her carefully, tears blurring my vision.
I despise myself for not getting to her sooner. I can’t even imagine what would have happened if I’d been a second later.
Her eyes fluttered open briefly, looking up at me. In wolf form, I couldn’t speak, couldn’t tell her how sorry I was, how desperately I wanted her forgiveness and acceptance.
What I saw instead shattered my heart. Her eyes widened, pupils dilating with terror. Her lips parted in a desperate cry: “No–!!*
She used her entire body to shield our child before losing consciousness completely.
What I saw wasn’t love or hope.
It was fear!
My dear sweet Rachel, she was afraid of me…
My heart broke, but I moved quickly, catching her upper body before she could hit the ground. I let out a mournful howl that e. “Awoooo!
through the forest.
My men arrived moments later, dealing with the remaining rogues.
The two wolves who had been protecting Rachel–a young male with white fur and an older female–appeared to still be alive, though badly injured.
We brought them back to our camp.
I transformed back into human form and nuzzled Rachel gently, relieved to find she was still breathing, her heart still beating. Then I placed Rachel gently
on the bed.

Chapter 226
My attention shifted to my child, who had wiggled free from his mother’s embrace and lay beside her, his face red from crying as he looked up at me
I wanted nothing more than to hold him, but I couldn’t be sure we were safe yet. More fighting might be necessary, and I needed to remain vigilast,
The young white wolf lay panting on the ground, gravely wounded but still trying to protect Rachel. “Stay away from her! he snarled at me
I could only growl in response, unable
explain myself in this form.
“Rachel Victoria voice called out. “I need to o help her. She’s my friend.”
The older woman spoke to the white wolf. “It’s all right, Caelum. These are… the Queen’s friends. Thank you for helping us.”
I felt confused. I recognized Selena, but didn’t understand how she knew me. Queen? Is she talking about Rachel?!
I glanced at Tyler and Victoria, who looked equally surprised.
How did Rachel become a Queen?
Through our mind link, Tyler’s voice reached me. “Alpha, those savage rogues we encountered last week – they’re engaged in battle with what appears to be an organized force. They seem to be following orders from someone they call ‘the Queen.‘ What would you have us do?” he reported, awaiting my command.
“Help the Queen, eliminate the rogues,” I replied concisely.
“If anyone doesn’t want to fight, tell them they’ll regret that decision. They’ll have to face me instead,” I added.
I knew most of the rogues who had recently joined me wouldn’t want to fight against their savage brethren, but they’d likely fear my wrath more.
I entrusted Rachel and our son to my subordinates‘ care, instructing them to take both to a medical facility.
Then I headed to the lookout post to check for enemies.
Just then, from the west, I saw a large contingent of wolves approaching–Rachel’s forces. Among them, Gina rode on a wolf’s back, looking like a fearless warrior.
I ran toward her to get her attention.
At first, she tensed, thinking I might be a threat, but then recognition dawned on her face. “Nathan? Brother? Is that you?”
I nodded and motioned for her to follow me back to the medica
facility. Together, we raced back.
I decided to leave the battle to others–my focus now was Rachel and my son.
Entering the medical facility, I immediately asked, “How is she?”
The midwife looked up from Rachel’s bedside. “She’s doing much better. It will take a few days, but she’ll recover.”
Relief flooded through me.
I turned toward my child, now being held by Gina. I felt a twinge of jealousy. He had stopped crying.
‘Isn’t he beautiful?‘ Gina asked softly.
I studied him carefully. He had his mother’s cheeks but my nose and what used to be my eye color. I kept my distance at first, afraid of frightening him.
But his chubby little hand reached out toward/me, trying to touch me.
“Is it the pull that makes him react this way? While I’ve been searching for him, has he been searching for me too?”
Gina handed him to me, and I cradled him against my chest. He reached up to touch my face, and I felt ray eyes grow wet.

‘He knows, Gina said, her own eyes glistening. He can feel that you’re his father.”
I nodded. As I did, a thought crossed my mind: how fortunate I am to have my children and my wife. My family is my greatest blessing.
Color was returning to Rachel’s cheeks.
“I won’t hurt you anymore. I only want to love you properly,” I said, my voice filled with sincerity.
