Chapter 243
Nathan’s POV
I gazed at Rachel’s peaceful sleeping form, a smile involuntarily spreading across my face.
My girl looked so enchanting in her slumber, her gentle breathing and serene expression melting my heart.
The thought that she desired me as much as I desired her filled me with a warm, contented glow.
I felt incredibly fortunate to be the one she had chosen!
The tent was quiet except for her soft breathing, a stark contrast to our passionate encounter hours before.
But the pain in my chest brought me back to reality.
I’d stayed awake all night, unable to tear my eyes away from her. My mind raced with conflicting
thoughts that wouldn’t let me rest.
She tried to kill me, but she couldn’t go through with it. Does that mean I mean something to her?
Or was she just afraid of the consequences?
My fingers hovered over her cheek, not quite touching. Could we start over?
My thoughts drifted to my past mistakes–how I’d treated her, the threats I’d made, the pain I’d
caused.
The memory of her tears made my chest tighten with regret.
Was her blood really the cure? Could it change the outcome of this war? I studied her peaceful face.
There’s so much I don’t know about her.
But I only want to know if she still loves me.
Rachel stirred, her eyelashes fluttering against her cheeks before slowly opening. My heart leapt with anticipation, but the moment our eyes met, my hope faded.
Her gaze was empty, devoid of the warmth I’d glimpsed during our passionate night.
“Rachel…” I whispered, my voice hoarse with emotion.
She stared at me without speaking, her green eyes dull and distant.
“Talk to me, Rachel. Tell me what you want…” I pleaded.

Chapter 243
Just a hollow stare that made my heart sink. I’d hoped to see love, or at least recognition in those emerald depths, but the Rachel I’d glimpsed–the one who’d moaned my name and clung to me through the night–seemed to have vanished with the darkness.
Rachel reached for a silk robe draped over a nearby chair, wrapping it around her naked body as she
created distance between us.
The tent that had been filled with love and passion just hours ago now felt cold and empty.
I felt disappointment and resentment replace the tenderness that had bloomed in my chest.
“Is that it?” I asked, my voice rising. “You’re just going to ignore me?”
Rachel settled into a chair in the corner of the tent, her posture rigid. “What do you want me to say,
Nathan?”
“Rachel, I just want you to be the person I know you are,” I said, struggling to keep my voice even.
“The Rachel you knew is dead, Nathan.” Her voice was flat, emotionless. “From now on, this is who
you get.”
I moved across the tent in two quick strides, grabbing her arm. “Don’t do this to me…”
Rachel looked at me, her eyes scanning my face for a long moment before her lips curved into a cold
smile.
I felt something snap inside me. “What the hell was last night then?!” I roared.
“Last night was a mistake,” she replied calmly.
Her words cut through me like a knife. I stared at her, unable to believe the woman who had
surrendered to me so completely just hours ago could dismiss our connection so easily.
I couldn’t bear her indifference, not after what we’d shared.
Grabbing my shorts from the floor, I stormed out of Rachel’s tent, the cool night air hitting my bare
chest.
She’s pretending not to care. She has to be. There’s no way she could feel nothing after what we
shared.
She still has feeling for me!
Must…
Right then, a voice cut off my daydreaming.

Chapter 243
“Alpha?”
I turned to see Tyler approaching, concern etched on his face.
“What the fuck do you want?!” I snapped, my mood foul.
Tyler hesitated, clearly taken aback by my hostility. “The scouting parties have been clearing the area around camp and pushing the boundaries. They encountered other rogues. They’re not making as much progress as expected. The border team and four other teams are involved.”
“Who went?” I demanded.
