And third–this was the bad news–Madison’s mate was Kael, Dylan’s son.
“Fuck,” I muttered, pacing the length of my tent.
This was a nightmare!
Jason was hunting Rachel. Dylan was hunting Carter. Madison wanted revenge on both Rachel and Nathan. And now Madison and Kael were together.
We were surrounded by enemies on all sides!
We had to tackle these problems one by one, and the first step was getting Nathan to recognize Rachel for who she really
was: a queen.
A powerful ally who could help us fight against Jason, Dylan, and Madison.
If I could convince Nathan to bring Rachel–and the rest of us–to Nexus’s borders, we’d be safer. Together we’d be stronger. And Rachel could be reunited with her son.
Hurting each other will only lead to mutual destruction.
I rehearsed what I would say to Nathan as I walked to his tent.
Passing by Rachel’s tent, I noticed the guards posted outside, stern–faced and alert. They had strict orders not to let anyone approach. I considered trying to see her but decided against it.
First, I needed to deal with my brother.
I found Nathan in his tent with Tyler. They were hunched over a table, speaking in low voices about the battle plans spread before them.
“Nathan,” I said, standing at the entrance.
He didn’t look up. “What do you want?”
“Can I have a word?” I stepped further into the tent. “It’ll only take a minute.”
Nathan sighed, then motioned for Tyler to leave.
Tyler squeezed my shoulder as he passed, giving me a concerned smile.
When we were alone, I faced Nathan directly. “I received word today that Rachel’s people are coming here. They want to work with us to resolve this situation, but they want their princess.”
Nathan’s eyes flashed with anger. “What the fuck did you just say?”
“Nathan, we’re losing men every day,” I argued. “There are regues and enemy troops all around us. We need allies, not more enemies.”
He advanced toward me, a low growl building in his throat. “She doesn’t belong to them. She belongs to me. She is mine,

Chapter 260
“Nathan, do you want her back for real or not?” I stood my ground. “Because if you do, you need to get your fucking head straight. You haven’t even spoken to her in days, and now you’re threatening to hurt her people?”
“Don’t presume to tell me what to do,” he snarled.
“Stop acting like you control everything,” I snapped back. “Whether you accept it or not, she’s a princess, and those people are coming for their leader. Instead of fighting it, maybe try embracing it.”
His eyes narrowed. “How exactly are you in contact with the outside world?”
“That’s none of your business, Nathan. I have my contacts, just like you have yours
everyone else!”
“You’re betraying me too, aren’t you!” he roared. “Just like
“What the fuck are you talking about?” I shouted back in frustration. “We’re not like your goddamn cousin!*
I took a deep breath. “If you don‘
you fucking want?”
get your shit together, Nathan, you’re going to lose her and Mateo. Is that really what
Something in my words seemed to penetrate his rage. His eyes widened, and he took a step back, staring at me as if emerging from a trance.
“No-” he murmured, shaking his head. “They won’t leave me. Rachel and my son won’t leave me.”
I sighed, suddenly tired.
“Let me talk to her,” I pleaded. “Before this turns into a complete shitshow. The last thing we need is innocent blood spilled because you’re being stubborn and pig–headed.”
“No.” Nathan’s voice was flat.
He moved past me toward the tent entrance, then paused. “If anyone’s going to talk to Rachel, it’ll be me.”
