The Alpha’s Purchased Slave
Chapter 267
“I understand. I’ll see if I can convince him to visit my mother’s grave. Maybe if he understands it means I’ll follow him without resistance wherever Be wants to go after, he’ll agree to this.”
Gina frowned. ‘But… that’s not true, is it?
I met her gaze steadily. “If I can get him to the sacred altar, if I can change him back from this wanderer mentality to who he was before… I don’t think the old Nathan would want to take me against my will. Would he?”
She shook her head. “No, he wouldn’t.”
“Alright then. You contact Selena and Adam, and I’ll find the right moment to convince Nathan.”
After Gina left, I sank onto the bed, head in my hands. The weight of what we were planning made my stomach twist with anxiety.
As dusk fell, the surroundings grew quiet. I sensed eyes on me again–that familiar tingle at the base of my spine that only one person could trigger.
“You’re already there,” I called out to the door. “Why not come in?”
The door pushed open, and a brooding figure entered, making the once–spacious room feel small. The darkness around him seemed deeper, and I could almost smell blood on him.
I wasn’t sure if he was here because Gina had told him I wanted to see him, or if he was just checking to make sure I hadn’t escaped.
Nathan stood at the entrance, seemingly uncertain whether to approach.
“Hi, Nathan.”
“You wanted to see me?” His tentative tone made my heart ache. He sounded almost… afraid of me.
“Yes, I wanted to see you.”
He moved closer, kneeling beside me. “How is it going?”
“Not bad. But I miss my child.”
Nathan replied, “I see! Sorry…”
I took a deep breath. “Nathan, listen to me. There’s something I want to ask you, and I need you to hear everything before you say no, okay?”
He nodded, then his eyes fixed on mine, wary but attentive.
‘I want to visit a temple to see my mother’s grave. It’s important to me. Afterward, if you want to go elsewhere, get away from these wanderers and others hunting us, we can. But I want to pay respects to my mother.” I paused, letting my voice soften. ‘And we can’t leave Mateo behind. As the battle lines push south every day, who knows when we’ll have a chance to retrieve him.”
“It’s too dangerous, Rachel.”
‘Really? The battlefield keeps pushing us south. You could leave other warriors to guard here while we go north. It’s not far. If you let me visit my pack, let my people see I’m unharmed, let us retrieve our child, and let me visit my mother’s grave–then we can continue on our way.”
‘What if they don’t give him to you?”
I smiled at him. “They’ll give our son to me. They trust me. I’m their princess.”
“But what if they try to take you from me? Real worry creased his brow.
I’ve already told you, Nathan. If you let me pay respects to my mother, I’ll go with you.”

‘Why do you suddenly want to do this? His eyes narrowed suspiciously.
“Because I’m tired of everything that’s happening. Tired of the war here, tired of what our relationship has become.”
“What if you’re lying?‘ he murmured, voice low as if talking to himself. “What if you…
“You’ve lied to me too. We’re even. I’m being honest this time. No lies. I’ve committed to being with you. It’s up to you if you want to believe ine.
“That’s different!”
Nathan looked away, considering my words. I gave him time, heart pounding in
Finally, he turned back to me. “Rachel, can I trust you?”

chest.
I met his eyes directly, my own gaze unwavering. “Yes from me. But do you trust me or not?”
He took a deep breath, and I braced myself for his answer.
