Chapter 286
Rachel’s POV
Attack the civilians first! Kill them all!” Madison shouted.
Kill them? What? My blood ran cold as panic seized my chest. These were innocent people–how could she order such a thing?
Then Madison transformed into a wolf right before my eyes.
Her lips pulled back showing fangs that could tear through flesh effortlessly.
But what really terrified me was the look in those wild eyes–cold, calculating, and filled with murderous intent.
This was Madison, fully conscious, and she was ready to kill!
She threw her head back and howled, the sound piercing through the chaos as she led her troops from behind.
The wolves surged forward like a deadly wave, foam dripping from their jaws. Kael seized the opportunity and darted toward Madison.
“Stay behind me!” Nathan shouted to me before leaping toward Kael once more.
To my horror, Kael’s wolves also responded to Madison’s command, pressing forward with renewed vigor.
Dozens of children caught between Kael’s battle lines screamed in terror, their small bodies frozen in fear as death approached from all sides.
Our warriors were hopelessly outnumbered. My eyes darted frantically, searching for Gina and Mateo.
When I spotted them huddled behind a large oak tree, my chest tightened.
My sweet baby boy.
The sound of snarling jaws snapped my attention back to Nathan, Kael had managed to break free from his hold, blood matting the fur around
his neck.
Nathan wasn’t injured–his powerful form moved with undiminished strength as he lunged at Kael again.
Their bodies collided in mid–air, a blur of black and red–streaked fur, teeth flashing as they tore at each other.
Around me, the world descended into nightmare. Women clutched their children, bodies curled protectively around them as they pressed against tree trunks.
The youngest ones wailed in terror while older children stared with wide, uncomprehending eyes. Our warriors fought valiantly, but each faced three or four opponents–an impossible fight.
Blood splattered across fallen leaves. Bodies–both friend and foe–lay motionless on the forest floor. The sickening scent of death filled my
nostrils.
Then I saw them–Madison’s elite squad charging directly toward our last group of civilians. Among them were about twenty infants and toddlers, some barely old enough to walk, clutching their mothers‘ legs or carried in trembling arms.
“NO–!!!” The scream tore from my throat/raw and desperate.
Time seemed to slow as I watched death approach the innocents.
I had to stop this.

Chapter 286
I can’t stand it anymore!
But how? What power did I possess against such numbers?
Blood and fur filled my vision, the carnage cutting into my heart like a thousand knives. Children would die. Mateo could die.
All because we weren’t strong enough.
I lifted my face to the sky hanging above the forest canopy, its light filtering through the branches. In that moment, I knew what I had to do
“Moon Goddess,” I whispered, my voice strengthening with each word, “grant me your power! Grant me your divine strength!”
The ancient words rose from some forgotten place within me: “Lumina Caelestis, imple vim meam, imple animum meum!”
“Rachel, STOP!” Adam’s panicked voice cut through my mind. “You can’t do it!”
But I continued, the words pouring from me like a prayer long memorized.
“Rachel! Rachel!!”
A new voice–Nathan’s–thundered through my consciousness.
How was that possible?
We’d never established a mind link before. The ritual… it must have connected us somehow.
A blinding light flashed before me, forcing my eyes shut.
Gasps erupted from those around me. The ground beneath my feet began to tremble, and a surge of energy–white–hot and overwhelming- flooded through my veins.
My blood felt like it was boiling, burning me from within, yet somehow I welcomed the pain.
My body lifted from the ground, the transformation beginning without
my conscious effort.
