Chapter 294
Kael’s POV
“Excuse me… sir, ma’am, there’s someone here to see you.”
I was just about to get it on with this hottie Madison when some jackass important.
If not… I’m gonna kick his ass
Fucking hell.
and interrupted us. I was pissed off. It better be something
“Who would come to us at this hour?” I growled.
Come in.
The subordinate entered and stepped aside. My
narrowed as I recognized the figure behind him. Carter Wilson–my cousin.
What’s he here for?
My body tensed immediately.
“Carter? What the fuck are you doing here?” I crossed my arms, studying him with undisguised hostility. Was this a trap? A spy mission from
Nathan?
Carter sighed, looking at the ground briefly before meeting my gaze.
“You bastard!” I roared, stepping forward. “You’ve
got some nerve coming to see me! I should chop you into pieces for my father!”
His presence here made no sense.
“You won’t,” he replied with infuriating confidence.
“Are you challenging me?” I kept my voice dangerously low, letting my wolf rise closer to the surface.
Carter merely shrugged. “No, I just work with winners–or at least potential winners. I’m not interested in wasting my time on someone who’s
about to lose.”
The backhanded compliment caught me off guard. Was he implying I might lose to Nathan? Or offering to help me win?
Either way, his arrogance was both irritating and intriguing.
“I’m shocked you’re not hiding in your brother’s shadow anymore,” I taunted, watching for his reaction.
His eyes narrowed slightly–a weak spot.
Interesting.
So he’s still hung up on that.
“Why?” I pressed my advantage. “Did your woman decide she didn’t want you anymore? Did she choose your brother over you?”
I saw Madison stifle a laugh from the corner of my eye.
ter straightened his spine, clearly struggling to maintain his composure.
“I’ve returned to my rightful place,” he said stiffly.

I laughed loudly. “Your place? You really think highly of yourself? This little shit had always thought he deserved more than he was worth.
Carter shrugged again, turning as if to leave. “I see I was wrong. You don’t want to win. Goodbye, then.”
My curiosity got the better of me. If he had something valuable, I couldn’t let him take it to my father directly. “Wait. Tell me how we win.
“Because…” Carter paused dramatically, “I can help you end this war completely. Make King Dylan… and you… the victors.”
I chuckled dismissively while my mind raced. Was this legitimate? Or some elaborate trap?
This smells like a bigger trap. What’s Carter’s real angle with me?
“You seriously think you’re enough to make us win?” I stepped closer.
Carter’s mouth twisted into that infuriating smile. “Then… why haven’t you won yet?”
“Because I’m patient, I growled, though patience had never been my strength.
Carter stepped forward until we were nearly nose to nose. “No, I don’t think so.”
My wolf stirred, hackles rising at the challenge. “Afraid? What the fuck are you talking about? I’m not afraid of anyone!..
“Yes, you are…” Carter’s voice dropped to a whisper. “You’re afraid of Nathan Blackwood.”
His words hit a nerve I didn’t want to acknowledge. “Fuck you!” I shouted, shoving his chest hard. The bastard blocked the move easily.
“If you weren’t afraid of him, you’d have attacked already,” he countered.
I felt my face darken with rage. How dare this nobody speak to me like this?
“Listen…” Carter said with a cold smile. “I didn’t come here tonight to argue with you… You might have the advantage, but Nathan is smart… I have a proposition that can help you win this war faster. You wouldn’t need to wait, wouldn’t even need to fight. You’d return victorious, ready to take the throne the moment your father steps down.”
The thought of taking the throne without a prolonged war was tempting. I’d been preparing for battle, but a quicker path to power? That was worth hearing out.
“Go on, spin your tale,” I said, waving a hand dismissively to hide my interest.
“I can make it happen. And I will,” Carter stated firmly.
“Bullshit,” I snorted, though part of me wondered what he had planned.
Carter turned toward the exit. “Oh, well… that’s too bad. I guess I’ll just have to go talk to Uncle Dylan myself.”
My stomach dropped. If Carter had valuable information and took it to my father, I’d lose any credit for the victory. “Wait, Carter Wilson…” I called sharply. “You don’t cross my lines without/my permission.”
“If you dare show your face to my father, he’ll squash you like a cockroach, I threatened, though we both knew my father would welcome any advantage against Nathan.
Carter laughed. “Your aging, one–armed father is going to squash me?”
“Don’t insult the king! I snarled.
Carter raised his hands in mock surrender, that evil smile still playing on his lips. “Alright, alright, I just saying… no matter how great a king

young, strong men to shine, cousin.”
I stared at him, considering his words. He was playing to my ambition, and it was working.
“So, what’s your proposition?” Madison asked, taking my arm possessively.
Carter wagged a finger at her. ‘I need your promise first.”
I weighed my options. If Carter could deliver as promised, the price would be worth it. If you help me win this war, I’ll give you two regions of your choice in the Eastern Territory.”
“Darling, that’s so generous!” Madison exclaimed, squeezing my arm.
I barely restrained an eye roll. Two regions was nothing compared to the entire kingdom I’d gain.
Carter gave Madison an unfriendly look. “Shut up. This doesn’t concern you!”
I shot Madison a warning glance before she could explode. I needed to hear Carter out before letting her tear into him.
Carter stroked his chin thoughtfully before breaking into a grin. “Deal!”
“Now, state your proposition,” I demanded, eager to hear what he had planned.
Carter’s smile widened. “It’s time I showed you my ace,
I moved closer, looking down at him. “Showed?”
Kael.”
Carter leaned in conspiratorially. “Yes, showed… actions speak louder than words, don’t they?”
“Oh?” A chill of anticipation ran down my spine.
Whatever Carter was planning, it seemed he had something–or someone–to demonstrate his worth.
A smile spread across my face as I imagined the possibilities. “Carter, you’d better not disappoint me.”
Carter’s eyes glinted with something dark and determined. “When you see him, you won’t be disappointed.”
