Chapter 315
Rachel’s POV
Carter sat across from me, his broad shoulders blocking some of the light.
Nathan lay still on the makeshift bed, his chest rising and falling in the steady rhythm of deep sleep.
“But Nathan still hasn’t woken up,” Carter said, his voice low. “Though his fingers moved, which means he’s getting close. He’s coming back to us. He paused, studying my face with surprising gentleness. “How are you doing? You seem… sad,”
I forced a smile that felt like stretching brittle paper. “I’m good.”
But I wasn’t…
My dream haunted me–that temple door closing, Nathan’s voice echoing “Never” when I’d asked if he’d loved me.
My gaze drifted to Nathan’s face. His eyelids twitched, the movement barely perceptible in the dim light.
“I got word that they’ve identified several spy suspects and are monitoring their movements, Carter continued. “Also, the rescue team has arrived. They’re waiting to meet you.”
“Thank you.” The words felt inadequate for all he’d done.
“I’ve been watching Nathan closely. I think he’s about to wake up.”
My heart skipped. Nathan’s awakening should have filled me with joy, but instead, dread pooled in my stomach.
What would I say to him?
“…I should go.” The words tumbled out before I could stop them.
Carter’s eyebrows shot up. “What?” He grabbed my wrist. “Why?”
“I need to go,” I said more urgently. “First, you’re still recovering from your injury at Kael’s camp. Yesterday’s fight wasn’t good for you. You need rest. Second, my blood can help any injured warriors out there. Can yours?”
The logic was sound, but we both knew it was only half the truth. Carter released my wrist, disappointment evident on his face.
I glanced at Nathan one last time, my throat tightening. Part of me ached to stay, to see his eyes open, to hear his voice.
But I needed time–time to think, to figure out how to face him after everything.
“Tell him I’m glad he’s awake,” I managed, then turned away before Carter could see the tears threatening to spill.
As I reached the mouth of the cave, I heard it–Nathan’s voice, weak but unmistakable.
“Carter? Where am I…?”
Relief washed over me. The Moon Flower had worked. He was back!
Swallowing hard, I fled like the coward I was, telling myself I was going to bring back his sister and his Beta.
Outside, the rescue team waited–twelye warriors, their faces grim but determined.

I straightened my shoulders and pushed my emotions deep down where they couldn’t interfere with what needed to be done,
“Everyone, follow me!” I shouted. “We have a full day’s journey ahead. Our comrades are waiting for us, and we don’t have a minute to wastel
I shifted into my wolf form, feeling the familiar rush as bones realigned and für sprouted across my body. The others followed suit, and soon we were racing through the forest, paws thumping against the earth in rhythmic urgency.
We reached the moonlit clearing by midday, slowing as the scent of blood and death hit our nostrils. My heart sank at the sight before us- dozens of wolves lay motionless on the bloodstained grass.
Most were rogues, wearing no pack markings, but

“Your Majesty,” he said solemnly, “to die in battle for one’s queen, fighting until your

I nodded, scanning the bodies with desperate relief that neither Gina nor Tyler were among them. The battle had clearly ended; the survivors had either fled or hidden.
“Everyone, pair up and spread out to search,” I instructed after shifting back to human form. “Can any of you establish mind link with Tyler or Gina?”
The Ironjaw wolves shook their heads–a bad sign. It meant they were either too far away
or
unconscious.
“If you find anything, and you can’t mind link, howl three times in succession as a signal. The rest of us will come immediately. If we hear more than one such signal, we’ll regroup here.”
I distributed small vials of my blood tied with thin cords. “Keep these around your necks. Use them if needed.”
