Chapter 316
Caelum shifted back to wolf form, and I climbed onto his back. His golden fur was soft beneath my hands as we ventured deeper into the
forest.
Half an hour into our search, I spotted something glinting among the fallen leaves–Gina’s tactical knife. I slid off Caelum’s back to retrieve it.
“Gina was here,” I whispered.
Caelum sniffed the air, then the ground, picking up their scent. He led me forward until we found them beneath a massive oak tree. Tyler lay in wolf form, his body curved protectively around Gina, who was in human form.
“Tyler! Gina!” I rushed toward them.
Gina’s clothes were soaked with blood, but her eyes flickered open at my voice. “Caelum… Rachel, she murmured weakly.
Caelum shifted and gently helped Gina sit up.
“Rachel, save Tyler!” Gina pleaded, her voice stronger now.
I knelt beside Tyler’s wolf form, pressing my ear to his chest. His heartbeat was faint, too faint. Quickly, I sliced my forearm with Gina’s knife and let my blood drip into Tyler’s mouth.
His breathing stabilized almost immediately, and his wounds began to close.
“Tyler should be okay now,” I assured her. “How about you? Are you alright?”
“I’m fine…” Gina said, wiping blood from her face. “That bitch Madison! Next time I see her, I swear-*
Caelum was checking Gina for injuries, tears glistening in his eyes. Most of the blood on her wasn’t hers, I realized with relief.
“Rachel,” Gina said, gripping my hand, “there should be others nearby. We were all exhausted. I hope most of them made it!”
She turned to Caelum with a weak smile. “Didn’t expect to see you cry, playboy.”
Tyler’s wolf eyes blinked open, focusing first on Gina, then on me.
By nightfall, we’d found all our missing people–six severely injured but alive. We decided to make camp rather than push through to Nexus in darkness.
I headed toward Gina and Tyler’s tent, intending to ask Gina if she wanted to share mine instead. As I approached, I heard her angry voice.
“What the fuck are you saying? Why are you like this?”
Tyler’s response was calm but pained. “You don’t need to stay in the same tent with me tonight. I can take ca because you’re Nathan’s sister. It’s my duty. Caelum was really worried about you. He must miss you…”
yself. I protected you
I froze, confused. Tyler had completely misunderstood Gina and Caelum’s friendship. They were just friends, nothing more.
Gina sighed in exasperation. “You blockhead,
She knelt beside the seated Tyler, grabbed his face, and kissed him.
The sight stunned me–Gina’s fingers woven through Tyler’s hair, their bodies drawing closer, the kiss deepening with years of unspoken feelings.

I tried to back away quietly but stepped on dry leaves, giving myself away.
Gina broke the kiss, laughing when she spotted me. “Busted! Sorry, Rachel.”
“No, no! I’m sorry!” I stammtered, mortified. “You two… carry on!”
“Rachel, come back!” Gina called, waving me over.
are you running? Did you need something?”
“Oh, yes, I wanted to… tell you the tents are ready,” I managed, feeling my face burn..
Gina looked at Tyler, her smile softening. “So, what do you say? Will you share a tent with me? This is your only chance.”
Tyler nodded, his expression serious but eyes bright.
“I’m not sure what that nod means,” Gina teased, “but I’m
taking it as a yes.”
Walking back to my own tent, I couldn’t help smiling despite my exhaustion.
Gina had been brave enough to go after what she wanted, and Tyler had obviously loved her for a long time.
“Yes… I’m just really happy for you,” I told Gina before leaving them.

Alone in my tent, thoughts of Nathan flooded back. Was he still lying in that cave bed, or
had he gotten
by now?
I hadn’t even told him how much I cared. He’d risked his life for me, but he’d also said he never loved me.
Tomorrow we’d return to Nexus, and I had no idea how to act around him,
Can we start over? The question haunted me as I drifted toward sleep.
The more I understood my love for him, the more terrified I became of facing him, knowing I couldn’t bear to lose him again.
I wished I could be as brave as Gina.
But he said he never loved me…
