Rachel’s POV
The second day, after composing myself, I stepped forward, interrupting Nathan mid–sentence in the command tent.
-I’ll lead the middle forces,” 1 announced. “What we’re facing isn’t just Kael’s army anymore.”
Nathan’s eyes flickered with disapproval, but he didn’t immediately refuse.
“I can boost morale as the Nexus Queen,” I continued, meeting his gaze. “Tyler and Gina will be with me, so I’ll be protected. Plus, I can coordinate with Adam and Caspian through mind links better from the center.”
Nathan studied me for a long moment, his jaw tight. The silence in the tent stretched uncomfortably.
“Fine,” he finally said, turning back to the map. “Commander Adam will take the left flank, General Caspian the right. We’ll funnel their forces into the ravine here…”
I exhaled slowly, relief washing over me as the meeting continued. This would be our first offensive strike since the decision to take a more aggressive stance.
Hours later, the forest erupted with howls as our forces charged forward.
I remained in human form at first, fighting alongside Gina to inspire the warriors.
The metallic tang of blood hung in the air, mixed with the sharp scent of fear and the earthy smell of disturbed soil.
A massive female wolf with dark gray fur lunged at one of our injured warriors.
Without thinking, I shifted forms, my bones cracking and reshaping as the fur rippled across my skin. I charged forward, slamming into her side and sending her tumbling.
She recovered quickly, teeth snapping at my throat. I ducked beneath her attack and bit down hard on her back leg, tasting blood as my teeth tore through muscle.
She yelped in pain, stumbling as I circled around, reading her body language.
In one swift move, I leapt onto her back, driving her to the ground.
My jaws hovered over her neck, ready for the killing bite, when she made a soft whimpering sound that froze me in plac
Before I could decide, a blade sliced through the air, cutting her throat. Blood sprayed across my white fur in a warm, sticky shower. The she- wolf twitched once, then went still.
“Focus, Rachel!” Gina shouted, her knife dripping crimson. “Now’s not the time to lose your nerve!”
I nodded, shaking off the momentary hesitation/and bounded toward higher ground to survey the battlefield.
From my vantage point, I could see our forces/pushing the enemy back. We had them on the defensive, just as planned.
I scanned the churning mass of fighting wolves but saw no sign of Kael or Madison. King Dylan wasn’t here either–he typically commanded
from the rear.
Our pincer movement should trap Dylan’s forces, I thought, watching the battle unfold.
I sent instructions through mind links to Adam and Caspian, directing them to maintain pressure while I remained back to coordinate.

Chapter 327
The sun climbed higher in the sky as the fighting continued, painting the battlefield in harsh light.
After several hours, 1 shifted back to human form and rejoined Gina at the edge of the forest. She was breathing hard, blood splattered across
her clothes.
“I just came back from checking with Nathan near the camp,” she said, handing me a water skin.
I drank deeply, then frowned at her
“How did you get over there so quickly?*
Confusion flashed across her face. “What do you mean? I’ve been gone for almost half an hour.”
I reached out through a mind link to Caelum, who was fighting nearby, “That big gray wolf is causing trouble on the north side. Can you handle it?*
“As you command, my Queen…” his voice resonated in my mind. “I’ll make sure he’s stopped.”
Gina’s frown deepened. “I just saw you, though. I mean… I swear, when I was running back from Nathan, I saw you walking toward the camp. I spotted you from a distance, heading toward Nathan.”
“You must have been mistaken,” I said, but a cold feeling spread through my chest.
“Rachel, how many women our age have white hair?” Gina countered. “And she was wearing the same style of clothes you usually wear.”
The memory of Madison using a double to fake my death flashed through my mind. “Were there any enemy soldiers around when you saw… ‘me‘?”
“A few stragglers coming in from the west,” Gina confirmed. “Nathan knew about it, though.”
